Kingmaker

So our GM got her hands on a Kingmaker series... the first four APs anyway... and decided to start running it.

We just had a five day gaming session.

Best... game.... ever...

From Level 1 to Level 6, we're into the second book and building our own city.

I say again...

Best... game... ever...

I'm curious if anybody at Paizo anticipated the sheer impact of Kingmaker on the community...

+1 Total agreement.

From what I remember before it came out, they were concerned if it would be a complete flop or an awesome addition. I don't think anyone was expecting it to just be there and do nothing. I think its an awesome addition.

It's the first AP I've run, probably going to be the only one - I'm not sure. It's very good, but it's running terribly slow with my group - they took almost 6 months to get done with the first book, due to delays and issues with some players. We've jettisoned two of the players and I figured it'd run smoother, but we're on a month-long hiatus thanks to working retail and being busy with stuff during our gaming times. Hopefully we'll see some pacing increases in the second book.

My party loves it aswel.
Going at it for quite some time now (once evert week/fortnight for 3-4 hours), almost at the end of book 2 (only exploration left) and they are loving it.

The fact that it actually transcends months and years is awesome. Everyone has found a wife/husband, is making plans for the future, long-term commitments, own Law of the Lands, city planning..
It challenges the players on a lot more levels than your regular adventure.

Our elf wizard is making plans to teach the child of the human baron the ways of his father, should he come to die.

just started the second book, my players are already looking forward to diving up positions. Honestly the best AP I've ever read and the only one I've ever wanted to run.

I would love to continue it after it is completed. Restart the part as a next generation group further expanding the kingdom their original PCs created. Possibly make a bid for the throne of Brevory, possibly unify the River Kingdoms. I would love to one day be able to claim my players created a true Empire, populated by numerous PCs throughout.

I just wish I could play this game. Alas, 'tis the lot of a GM.

I totally know how you feel. I wish someone else in my group had picked up the AP instead of me. I've already told everyone that I'm handing off my copies of Jade Regent to someone else to run so I can play. Carrion Crown is too good to pass up running though.

I feel like Kingmaker is a game with a fair amount of "replay value." If you're pretty good at keeping OOC info OOC, maybe you'll be able to play it yourself one day with a different group, or with a different style of playthrough. (Evil vs. Good, more diplomatic vs. hack and slash, etc.)

Purplefixer, it's been years now since my group has had a gaming marathon like the one you described, but I remember those quite fondly. I'm happy that you're having such a positive experience with the game.

I've been running Kingmaker since late last summer, and our group is just now wrapping up the first book! They've had a surprisingly high number of random encounters, and have spent a great deal of time interacting with the NPCs, arguing ethics/party "laws" amongst themselves, and generally meandering about the Greenbelt at their own pace. This suits me just fine. Moving at a faster pace would be fine, too. Not to knock the very awesome Age of Worms AP, but after playing in an adventure with such a demanding time table, it's just nice to be able to explore at one's own speed for a bit. :)

JBE is looking to help that replayability with continued support with the with an upcoming NPC supplement, towns and villages, and assistance on how to draw your own map.

My wife was curious about Kingmaker as I (GM) was looking through the first book and reading what Pathfinder was all about. She had never played a RPG before and I being utterly disgusted with D&D 4E, so we just started chatting about it. Next thing you know, she is soloing through it. As you all know, a sandbox is challenging, but this was too good to let slide by.

We are now in the second book and a "two year" kingdom build. True I've mentally lost my mind maintaining so many NPCs to give her the "four player" experience, but this AP is too awesome. With marriages and families, this world lives.

Can not begin to say how much this AP rocks. If a 20+ yr D&D GM and a first-ever roll player can pick this up and have this much fun, you KNOW its good!
