Now, thanks to LordSynos generosity, I have too many 4x space strategies... Each has something very nice about it... Ship design... Planetary government... Graphics... Research tree...

Regretfully, not one of those games gives a free love nudist commune social development option.

And if they do, I haven't reached that phase of game. Yet.

What 4x space games do you have? Just wondering. I might be missing some of them. Also, give me your opinion of each one, if you do not mind.

P.S. - Thanks in advance.

Endless Space
StarDrive
Star Ruler

All of them have lots of similarities... Gee, I don't know... Maybe designers of all of them played Master of Orion 1/2, or something...

I just started them after getting them yesterday evening, so it's hard to make a fully informed opinion about them... Especially that I was paying exactly attention to which one is which.

I'll say more with more playtime.

It's probably weird.

(Also: unless you're okay with your personal image on the internet, don't link a picture or anything - this is the internet, not a truly "private" place, after all, as the spammers have shown...)

Anyway, if you do ever see me, just know that I look nothing like my avatar.

That's okay, though, because I'm pretty sure all of you do. Especially Ccaptain Yyesterday.

Oh, my god! I'm Orthos with grey hair!

(Was gonna linky, but NobodysWife is still waking up, and refuses to take inflammatory pictures of me until she's awake and ready to deal with the repercussions of same. Until then, here's a picture of a squirrel eating a nut, for no reason at all.)

SPAAAAAACE:
  • Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri - Seriously old school but excellent sci-fi 4X. Being Sid Meier, draws heavily from the same style as the Civilization games, but as a fan of any 4X that is only a plus. Still different enough to be its own game though, with interesting mechanics and a unique underlying story. The different factions also have their own personalities which really come through in play.

  • Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth - Civ V in spaaaaaaace. Kind of a disappointment, as was expecting a current generation AC, but still an enjoyable game. Feels more like a reskin of Civ V than a full new experience. If you enjoyed Civ V more than Civ IV and you can find it on sale, definitely worth it.

  • Sword of the Stars - My favourite 4X of all time, completely unmatched. Multiple species, all with very individualised playstyles, dynamic tech tree, colonisation, terraforming, trading, high level of ship modularity, there was next to nothing that this game didn't excel at. There's barely a 4X game I play that I won't finish up a game by saying "Well, that was fun, but, SotS anyone?" Love, love, love this game.

  • Sword of the Stars II: Lords of Winter - I prefer to pretend this disaster didn't happen, but it did. The catastrophic sequel to SotS, I'd be wary of touching a SotS 3, if one even comes out, after this train wreck.

  • Endless Space - An interesting and enjoyable 4X, introducing hero units, which can act as planetary governors or fleet admirals, many strategic and luxury resources which can benefit your faction in different ways, several different factions, each with their own unique powers and limiters, and a flexible faction generator, for custom team building. Also part of a much larger story arch, combining with Endless Legend, a fantasy 4X, and Dungeon of the Endless, a roguelike tower defense. I'd recommend it, and you can currently get it at a steal of $12, along with 5 other games, on the Humble Bundle.

  • Star Drive - Have never actually played it, but a friend of mine did quite a bit and said it was very enjoyable. lots of options for customisation, your faction, your planets, your ships. In a quick search though, found a lot of people saying it's buggy and was never finished, so maybe take caution.

  • Star Ruler - Have never actually played it, so can't give a personal opinion, but it's got 148 positive reviews on Steam, out of 173 total reviews, so people who have played it seem to enjoy it.

Of course, of course, the list is ever updating! When one is claimed, the name comes off, but there's plenty more to spare! :)

I'm thinking I'm going to add the list to my profile, I keep having to go back and look through my post history for my own link. :P

Edit: And a very big you're welcome to those who have got games so far, I hope you get a chance to enjoy them all. :)

This is from a few years ago, but it is my favorite. I have a friend who is a big photography enthusiast, so I have several professional-quality portraits.

Edit: For something more recent and whimsical, here I am eating an ice cream cone.

Oh benevolent LordSynos, after reviewing the list closely may I ask for Demigod, Galactic Civilizations 2, Disciples 3, Gary's Mod, both Orcs must die, Rise of the Argonauts and the entire Commando series.

Feel free to say no to any or all of these, my greed is an endless ocean I know=)

Also because everyone loves pictures of Dogs begging for food our particular Beagle as you can see believes in the long con:-p

CH, sorry for your hand troubles. Can't hold a controller? That's well-nigh tragic. I hope it heals quickly.

The other day, I was doing laundry and I found a 20 in one of John's pockets. I kept it. He needs to check his pockets before he throws things in the hamper. Usually it's Chapstick or tissues or gum; this one time it was something positive.

So, uh, in completely unrelated topic, naturally, uh, does anyone know how to make friends on Steam, when you can't get it to successfully search for people? Or join the FaWtL there? Not... not that I don't know, of course. I mean, I obviously know these things, as I am not a n00b. I- I'm asking for a friend. Yeah.

Hah! A foolproof lie! I think they'll buy it!

EDIT: Oh, yeah, and, uh, how does one redeem a gift-code item with a key? S-still asking for my friend. Yeah.

>.>

<.<'

EDIT 2&3: I- er, uh, I mean, my friend just figured the last part out! :D

Congrats everyone on everything! (Except your hand, CH, I hope that heals quickly, and it sucks that you can't hold a controller.)

Also: loving these pictures! You are all really photogenic! :D

EDIT: dang it, double-posts!

Someone else who does not have search friends feature disabled can still invite you as a friend, or into the group. Tested today between LordSynos and me. Of course you need to reveal the nickname you used for your steam account.

It's very mysterious. No one will ever guess it.
