Systems where weapons all do the same damage?

Other RPGs

I know Chill 1st Edition is such a system. My question is, has anyone played in any other systems that do this? Or have you house ruled an existing game so that all weapons do the same damage? What do you think are the advantages to this mechanic? The disadvantages?

WHFRP 1e and 2e mostly collapse weapons into "hand weapons" or "two-handed weapons", with some exceptions like spears, lances, and daggers.

It helps discourage PCs from becoming "sword guy", so that all weapon loot has to be their particular flavor of sword, for one.

Originally all weapons did d6 damage in D&D... resulted in lots of guys in platemail wielding daggers.

At least Warhammer's 'Hand Weapons' were all the same price so the actual weapon was just color

Some people playing B/X and BECMI have imported WHFP 1/2e handed damages into their games.

In Dungeon World damage is based on class, weapons just have different properties. The Fighter does d10, regardless of what he hits with, but might get a bonus or special ability depending on the weapon.

In the FATE games most weapons basically do very similar amounts of damage (within a couple of points). However the amount by which you succeed on your attack roll increases your damage.

There are several games where weapons have a flat damage code, but the damage gets increased based on how successful the attack is. Warhammer 3E and Shadowrun are two examples that I can think of off the top of my head. I find this mechanic decent- you don't end up with situations where you can roll a great attack roll, but then a crap damage roll (like in D&D).

WFRP of course and
Trail of Cthulhu (and other gumshoe) more or less

Celtic Legends is another such game. Heavier/bigger weapons, if I recall correctly, got a slight bonus on the roll, doing a bit more damage with the same roll than something smaller.
