Anyone seen the trailer for the new movie? link

Doesn't look like they retained most of the mythology/backstory, which I was a huge fan of. Honestly though, I'm not sure I even care. It looks that cool.. It almost has more of a horror movie feel to it.

Warning: It's violent (duh) and probably NSFW

It definitely does look cool. Sad part is that there are still no financial backers to support this for a feature length and if they do, the earliest they're expecting is 2013.

Meh.

Oh wow, that's a bummer. How did you find that out?

Edit: Okay, this article talks a little about that. Link

From what I saw I am not too enthused about it. I liked the original movies better. The magic and speacil effects really made it cool, this just doesn't have the right feel to it.

Spoiler:
Reptile will probably be more than I can handle. That particular disease always EUUUUUUUUUGHs me out.

Scarab Sages

Its an interesting pitch. I'm not sure though that its really mortal kombat. They might be better to just reskin it and give them all new names and give it a new title.

I'd heard someone was working on a reboot.

And... Mmmmm, Jeri Ryan!!!!

Whether they make it or not, that just doesn't look particularly interesting to me. Without the backstory of Shang Tsung, a threat to the earth, and the tournament fighters representing different realms, etc., it just looks like a funny version of Enter the Dragon or Bloodsport. A martial arts tournament that includes the best fighters in the world and somehow happens to be a secret? Oooh, that's original.

Who cares if it's original? The fights look good, the characters the correct level of completely insane, and it's the kind of completely serious that admits it's not actually all that serious. That's all you really need in a good fighting tournament movie (except for maybe the last one), and a movie based on a fighting game that isn't a fighting tournament movie is doing something wrong. It may not be a good Mortal Kombat movie, but it will probably be a good fighting movie.

(On an unrelated note, I can't describe how giddy I was when I realized the needle through that guy's neck was really a harpoon.)

I was just giddy that my favorite mortal combat character was getting the spotlight he deserved. (seriously scorpion was always the true star of that series with the most interesting story, as opposed to lui kang who won with the power of being asain)

Lui Kang? Oh, you mean the standard Bruce Lee character I didn't know existed until I heard he got killed off in one of the games? He might be important in the games, but no one's going to get excited about him.

GET OVER HERE!

Scorpion was my favorite character to play. I got so good at ninja juggling that if I picked Scorpion my friends would drop their controller and refuse to play. Ah, good times.

This looks like a fun reboot. I'm not all that happy about the loss of the supernatural elements but it still looks deliciously violent.

Edit: I will miss Christopher Lambert as Raiden though.

Unfortunately the actual show they pussed out and went with the standard MK storyline, oh well, so far it's been allright, but knowing they're going with the whole outworld invasion that only happens if you loose tournaments thing, episode 1 and 2 had me super excited, episode 3 okay there's gonna be some supernatural, episode 4 aaannnd you've lost me.
