Adventure Paths Special Rules

Rules Questions

Sovereign Court

Dear Paizo community:

Is there a thread somewhere that summarizes which books contain special rules that Paizo has come up with so far, such as the rules for Haunts, Chase, etc.?

I want to take advantage of the January 10% discount to stock up on PDFs especially for all the APs I do not own in print yet and which may contain such new rules.

Cheers!

PDK

Haunts are introduced in Pathfinder #2 (The Skinsaw Murders) and used in Pathfinder #4 (Fortress of the Stone Giants), Pathfinder #6 (The Spires of Xin-Shalast), and Pathfinder #11 (Skeletons of Scarwall). #11 has mini-rules for them; I'm not sure if #4 or #6 do since they're in the same AP and may just reference #2. They're used most extensively in #2; I can only think of one haunt each in #4 and #6 and only a couple in #11.

Chases are introduced in Pathfinder #7 (Edge of Anarchy), IIRC, and aren't used elsewhere.

Those are the only "new rules" I can remember.

Skinsaw Murders is an absolutely incredible Halloween/Horror/Haunted House module in its own right, even apart from the adventure path it's in, and I highly recommend it if you don't have it already.

Thank you Zurai! You beat me to the punch, just before I found this amidst James Jacob's intro of Pathfinder 27:

"[...]chase rules from “Edge of Anarchy” or the rules
for the game of blood pig from “Escape from Old Korvosa.”
But one of the most popular sets of new rules rose from
something I designed for Rich Pett’s adventure in the very
second Pathfinder volume—rules for haunts.
I’ve always been a fan of horror stories, and ghost stories
are high on my list of favorites in that genre. Yet in most
adventures, ghosts seemed as often as not little more than
transparent monsters to fight. Sure, they had a relatively
customizable suite of powers, but that still wasn’t enough
for me to create a fully haunted house, something with
harrowing phantasms, poltergeist activity, bleeding walls,
strange noises, and the like. In Rich Pett’s adventure,
“The Skinsaw Murders,” he presented a pretty compelling
haunted house, yet there wasn’t a core and centralized
mechanic to handle all of the weird effects he was putting
into the manor. Thus were born the rules for haunts.
In this volume’s adventure, we present some more
haunts. There’s been a fair amount of constructive feedback
on haunts on our messageboards, all of which helped when
I rebuilt them to work with the new Pathfinder RPG and
to make them even more fun to run in-game. Full rules
for haunts will be appearing in next year’s hardcover
GameMastery Guide
, so in a way you can even think of the
haunt rules presented in “What Lies in Dust” as the last
round of playtesting for these rules before they get locked
into a fancy hardcover rule book! So if you like what you
see or you think we could have done something better,
don’t hesitate to drop by paizo.com to let us know!"

So I'm buying the PDF for #2 and #7 for sure. #2 has Desna in it so bonus! :)

I'm going to try to find that "Gods in that AP" thread again to top off my list of PDF buys...

I didn't think of the mini-game rules.

Blood Pig rules (think Football with live pigs, starving badgers in pits for goals, and no you-can't-kill-your-opponents rules) are in PF#9 (Escape from Old Korvosa).

Knivesies rules (one knife, two players with their hands tied together, and a table full of coins) are in PF#7 (Edge of Anarchy). I think.

Sredna (Shoanti "I can withstand more pain than you can!" tug-of-war game) rules are in PF#10 (A History of Ashes).

My list grows! so far:

10

Zurai, do you know which book has which god's description:

Rise of the Runelords

Desna --> AP #2

Lamashtu --> ?

Curse of the Crimson Throne

Abadar --> ?

Zon-Kuthon --> ?

Thanks!

Deity articles are in the second and fifth modules of each AP, usually. You should be able to double-check this just by checking the product info pages for each module; the deity articles are always major features.
