Vampires of Golarion

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

Hello,

I've seen in Princes of Darkness that the "Blood Emperor, third of the vampires" slumbers in Maleboge.

Does it mean a background on the origins of Golarion's vampires exists (and I missed it), or is it an allusion to a background to be published?

It's a secret. Now you'll have to be eliminated for knowing too much. Silly mortal.

I'm not sure it's been publicly mentioned anywhere... but we do know the first three vampires to come into existence.

First or Second: Urgathoa (now a goddess; she was also the first undead creature in existence, and the first undead deity).

Second or First: Zura (demon lord of vampires and cannibalism).

It's unclear at this point which of those two were the FIRST vampire. But we do know that the Blood Emperor was the third.

*ponder* This might prompt someone (possibly me) to put together a list of any vampires mentioned in any Pathfinder book.

You'll want to pay special attention to Council of Thieves then... there's a LOT of vampires in there...

I would love to see a list of Vampires

were Classic Horros Revisited shed any light on this?

Nope; not much. Classic Horrors Revisited has some sample vampires, but no list of all the vampires. That's what we call an "editor trap." Unnecessary continuity that hampers and hinders the creation of further content, and sets up too many opportunities for us to break our canon when someone writes an adventure 3 years from now, say, and just forgets to look at the forgotten list of all the world's vampires.

Thank you for all your answers.

Is there a planned article on vampires (as there was, for example, for rakshasa or drows)?

Runs off to find nurse maid Yoda as canon is born.

mmmm Vampires! AWESOME!

I'd love an article (okay I'd love a BOOK) on just vampires!

A list, whether official or unofficial of vampires mentioned would be awesome too. Simply as a resource it would be invaluable.

Fang and Fury, from Green Ronin, is available pretty cheap these days and has some pretty awesome stuff on vampires for 3.5.

I agree a Galorian book of vampires. Starting with the first vampire. Life is good.

Looked at description of Fang and Fury. Not sure it is what I would want. Not big on the whole "New Vampire Race for PCs" idea, but was intrigued by some of the classes and other ideas mentioned. $8.50 for a PDF is likely at some point, not much cost and for the cost I will probably get my money's worth.

Now, as to WHY I would like a list of vampires. No, not because I want a list of all cannon vampires so I can catch a GM or Paizo in a mistake. Rather if I develop a vampire adventure, it would be interesting to leave little clues and hints at the vampire community in the larger picture around. It is easier and more "valid" if I drop a name that the players would recognize from a specific supplement, or can be used to give greater context to the simple name reference.

Just as it would give more credibility to an adventure that name drops the Grey Maidens in Korvosa than say, the Titan Brigands of Korvosa. The who? I Know Grey Maidens but does ANYONE have any clues at all about the Titan Brigands? Nope cause 100% made up on the spot.

In a shared universe like Golarion these kinds of reference lists CAN be useful. But they can also be a deadly trap. They can create a false sense of authenticity and mess with future releases and home adventures by creating a source that can be easily overlooked and a "mistake" made.

Still *I* would find it useful.
