Thank you Paizo for Pathfinder RPG

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

The forums are a great place to go find information about a game rule and to connect with others that enjoy your hobby with you. It can also be a focal point for voicing your opinion on how a company has handled the stewardship of "Your Game".

While there are many different game systems and many versions of rules to help bring an adventure to life for a group of gamers, there is a common history to each of the major genres out there for tone and flavor. Every version of any game will always have some change, but the question is if the tone and flavor of the game remain the same.

Pathfinder RPG has captured the tone and flavor of what I grew up with and have been playing for the last 25 years or so. Some of the rule set is more detailed then it has been in early version, while at the same time the current version has brought back some of the items that have not had as much focus in more current editions. (Disease, Poison, and Curses come to mind.)

Overall the tone and flavor are just about perfect. Thank you for providing a product that I can enjoy with my friends and teach to new generations of gamers.

That's it. No complaints about the changes I did not agree with. No questions about the new stuff that is confusing. And no rants about how everything in RAW must be flawless, because the tone and flavor of a game cannot be captured in a rule and it will be different for every gamer out there.

But when you are out a restaurant and get good service you tip well.
When you are in a store you thank the person that helped you and maybe fill out a comment card.
And when the company has its face on a message board on the net you post your thanks and appreciation for the world to see. (So they can pick your comments apart. LOL)

So thank you Paizo Staff for making a good game that I will enjoy for years to come.

Hurray for Pathfinder!

Hurray for Paizo!

I look forward to starting my first of many Pathfinder campaigns in a couple of days. Looks awesome.

Waves his little Pathfinder flag... the only flag I'm willing to wave.

Indeed! Hip-hip-huzzah!

RPG Superstar 2011 Top 32

Beautifully said and I heartily concur!

We rabid fans often get into the nitty gritty of figuring out what we like and don't like, and it's got to be a bit on the tough side for all the folks at Paizo that put so much blood, sweat, tears and lack of sleep into getting us this awesome tome of goodness.

I love the book, I love so many things that have happened, and I am thrilled that there is a company with so much heart to continue the game I adore. Thank you Paizo!

Hurrah! I happily support the OP's sentiment, PFRPG looks set to give me years of entertainment, for that price, its bare-faced bargain!

Like the BSG reference. That was my favorite show ever...until they totally frakked up the last season.

Thanks Paizo!
For the AP's as well as the RPG's. But mostly for giving me a reason to still support my hobby.
Granted you guys are getting about 95% of my RPG budget these days but at least it's going to the hobby...

Liberty's Edge

Agreed. This is how the game is meant to be. Keep up the good work.

I fully agree with the OP's statements.

I must admit that I had a bit of a heart pinch this week when I noted that the amount of books with a D&D name or logo in my bookshelf was slowly dwindling as I move more and more to the archive with my 1st and 2nd edition books and that it was just going to keep going that way since I like the Pathfinder lines so much.

I guess I'll miss the D&D tag since it's been a part of my gamer life for so long but hey, as the saying goes: A rose by any other name ...

Scarab Sages

WOOT!

Even with the minor changes I have to make, I still Love it! thanks.

Liberty's Edge

Agreed, thank you Paizo for Pathfinder:

  • For honoring and extending the OGL nature of 3.5. You not only took the OGL parts and polished them, but added into the OGL text key features of advancement and character development, making a complete OGL game possible.
  • You added enough to Pathfinder that honoring your work with purchases instead of just using the PRD was viable and enjoyable.
  • You honored the spirit of the OGL by incorporating open playtesting and discussion of the choices and changes your were proposing. You listened to all the input, even if you didn't always agree with it.
  • You expressed how you are roleplayers too, and how you wanted things for your own campaigns and characters.

There are things about the basic DnD paradigm I'm not happy with (HP, mainly), but those weren't yours to fix. Pathfinder just might me play and run DnD again.
