Sorry, Josh, I goofed

Society Scenario Submissions

Sorry, but I named my attached file 'Lyrics of Extinction_27_Evans', when it should have been 'Lyrics of Extinction_28_Evans'; One of those 06:30 in the morning (GMT) mistakes I end up making. Apologies.

Not exactly overcome them, so much as at the last minute had an interesting idea for #28 and thought that whilst I was developing it for use I may as well mail in the notes in Paizo format on the off-chance.

Will post them once the #27 & #28 writers have been announced.

They came in 100 words or so under the word limit, so it wasn't really a surprise that my notes were of no interest, but for what they're worth:

Spoiler:
a. A title
Lyrics of Extinction

b. A brief introduction that acts as a prologue for the scenario
In the Age of Darkness, doom came to the city of Matu-sar, in the shape of a woman – a priestess of Lamashtu.
Posing as a travelling performer, bringing a little light relief in such troubled times, she announced a grand show in the city’s theatre; once she had her audience comfortable, and lulled with a few early comic turns, she launched into a song that was a hymn to Lamashtu, and made monsters of those who heard it.
Too few of those who heard the song resisted its power to be able to fight the pack of cursed hybrids and were-creatures that suddenly filled the auditorium; and then when the beasts swept out onto the streets, many of the former civic officials amongst them, with nobody left able to organise even a shade of a defense against them the city fell. Those residents who avoided the malediction of lycanthropy or death at the claws and teeth of their former neighbours fled into the surrounding jungles, carrying tales of terror of what happened that would pass down the generations, becoming more twisted with each telling. Meanwhile the warped descendents of the priestess have ruled as monarchs of the ruins since, the text of the hymn become a prized religious relic.

A Pathfinder Society expedition has recently located the Mwangi Expanse’s fabled ‘City of Beasts’, and established a base camp close to the ruined city. A number of the local lycanthropes have been captured and are being interrogated for information when the PCs arrive.

c. A brief summary of how the PCs proceed through each encounter
A PFS wizard teleports the PCs out from Absalom, giving the PCs instructions to go into the ruins, grab the sacred text that the ‘Queen of Beasts’ supposedly guards, and get out again. The PCs arrive in the camp as a couple of the lycanthropes under interrogation make a bid for freedom.
The PCs head through the city to the building captives described as the lair of the ‘Queen of Beasts’, fight her guards, and find the Queen and the sacred text in a shrine to Lamashtu. The PCs fight or incapacitate the queen, and then a giant statue of Lamashtu in the shrine animates to destroy the thieves/invaders.
The PCs then head back to base camp, as a hue and cry rises in the ruins, help them beat off an assault, and teleport back to Absalom with the text.

d. A brief summary of each encounter—minimum five encounters
(1) Fight with a couple of were-tigers trying to escape the base camp.

(2) [optional depending on PC means of travel] Fight with beastmen/birdmen as PCs travel to the lair.

(3) Fight with the Queen’s lycanthrope guards.

(4) Fight with the Queen of Beasts (were-jackal/Cleric (Lamashtu))

(5) Fight with the statue of Lamashtu.

(6) Running battle against lycanthropes/birdmen/beastmen as the PCs flee back to the base camp, and then have to help defend the camp as a wizard prepares to send them back to Absalom.

e. A brief conclusion—what happens if the PCs fail or succeed
If the text remains in the city, Lamashtu’s church hears about the failed attempt and sends a strong force to help garrison the ruined city. It becomes a focus for Beastmen and lycanthropes in the Mwangi Expanse.
If the PCs escape with the text but fail to inform the expedition for some reason (EG they teleport straight back to Absalom by their own means) the ruined city’s denizens take the camp by surprise and utterly destroy the expedition.
If the PCs succeed, the PFS is able to demand favours of the Church of Lamashtu (including the release of prisoners/hostages), in exchange for access to the sacred text.

Very much last minute idea and submission, filling in details to the minimum extent of what was necessary to 'tick the boxes' of the various headings, so not a surprise that Josh was not interested.

This is a pretty cool scenario. Sorry that you didn't get enough time to work on it--I think it could have been a contender.
