I'm just reading the Anubis murders, pleasently surprised, so far it looks safe for my friend's 13 year old, who's suffering a reading blackout. He read the Exile's honour series, but is barred from the rest of Valdamar (sex and rape) He's seen the Dresden files TV Show, but can't read the books (similar reasons).

But for the love of gods, do not let Erik write any more forwards until he realizes revealing the hidden villian in the book he's writing the forward to is bad form!

*sigh*

Probably a better response than Matthew desired. Note to self: Read Erik's forward AFTER reading the book. And thanks to Paizo for the extra two weeks thanks to a Y2Kish glitch which will virtually guarantee that I will get the subscription and all of the older books.

Has the kid tried Susan Cooper or Eddings' Belgariad? I read those around that age. I've reread them in the 20 years since, and they hold up pretty well. Same with John Bellairs. To my mind all superior to
Harry Potter.

I'll have to check. I let him borrow Anubis Murders, and believe City of the Beast will be fine.

Kind of loath to give him Black God's Kiss though. Not so much for content, more for the idea of a 13 year old ADHD/ODD/OCD child reading a hero who's answer for everything is to get into a blood rage.

Well, she did once kill a guy by biting out his throat with her teeth...

Have you picked up "City of the Beast"? It's a quick read and a rollicking adventure that I think has an appeal for readers of all age levels.

Finished it over the weekend. I think he'll like it.

Cool. He should also enjoy "The Secret of Sinharat," which just got a five-star review on Amazon. Woo hoo!
