Most frequently used article / issue of Dragon?

Dragon Magazine General Discussion

Is there any one article or issue of Dragon that you consitantly use or frequently refer to in playing or running a game? Dragon #310 is now constantly in my game bag with my core books, we started my current camapign about the time it came out and my wife chose to play one of the variant fighters presented there in. I have also been thinking about developing a game around the Sentinel variant Paladin class in tat same issue.

So what do you use?

Class combos.
Really liked those articles to begin with, or at least the ideas in them. They were simple and helped spark ideas for PC creation.

I like articles that help me develop my PC, whether it be new spells, feats, skills, new ways to use skills, goals, equipment etc.

Also like articles that are devoted to non-magic magical items; special materials, or alchemical items.

I never leave home without the "Power Fantasy: Action Movie Stunts in D&D" article from issue #306. This fills in many of the gaps left in the skills descriptions such as throwing objects, swinging from ropes, and using grappling hooks.

I also bring along the Swashbucklers article from issue #301 for the same reason. It has rules for chandelier swings, balancing on rolling barrels, and backflipping off a wall. Good stuff!

Yeah, if there's something a player in my game uses a lot - such as in one game, a player was using the lycanthrope progressions, and another where a player made alchemial items from one issue. Well, I used to. Nowadays, half of my D&D group buys Dragon anyway, and they always seem to get it before me.

(Now all they need to do is to buy all the books I use to run the game, and I won't have to carry anything but my campaign notes and dice to the game...)

The one issue I use in nearly every game I DM is issue 289 - the article, "Leveled Treasures," rocks. I really like the idea of investing in a piece of ancestral armor or an ancestral weapon.

Issue 313, namely Dragon Psychoses and Born of Death articles. Half-undead are awesome, not only have I used them a ton for NPCs, two of the 3 PCs I've played since getting this issue have used these races (Fetch and the Mortif Deathtouched). I also make way too many Spellhoarding dragons, but I can't help myself because they're too neat. Yeah... someone should do another article on deathtouched.

I can't remember which issues they are, but the concepts:

1. Leveled Treasures. (I love the notion of ancestral weapons and armor that grow with the character.)

2. Evereskan Armor. (This one also dealt with the swords from the Archwizards series.) Love that elven armor!

I can't remember what issue it'z from (in fact, I've been looking for it for the past 30 mins, cuz I moved it, and can't remember where LOL), but I use the article about the disease where you starve to death and turn into a ghoul. Creepy stuff... :P

Taricus, that was issue #319, page 78, "Silicon Sorcery: Salammbo--The Eaters of Vile Things."

I use the article, Guild Secrets: Using and Designing Guilds, Secret Societies, and Cults from Dragon 296 a great deal of the time. It is very useful in helping to build societies in my campaign.

I used to travel both as player and DM to my games with all of my dragons. I have each one color tabed IDing articles I want to use. I am currently running the AP1 series from dungeon and publish a weekly newsletter for the players in which I encorperate different alchemical items, skill and feat uses, spells and magic items most of which I gleam from the pages of Dragon. I guess all of the issues are my favorites, and my campaigns would suffer greatly with out them

I'm going to second issue #301 - Swashbucklers.

I wish the cover was better, but it had some of the best content. I built a character almost entirely on the parrying feat tree. Even once parried a dragon's bite (hoowa!).

At the moment though, I'm not carrying any Dragon's with me to the game. I'm constantly pestering paizo to add a comprehensive index (or something) to allow me to access all of my issues of Dragon without CONSTANTLY referring back to them. Seriously, if you have, say, 23 issues of 3.5 (and countless older issues) it begins to get HEAVY. 23 Issues of dragon weighs about as much as the PHB, DMG, MM1-3, and your two favorite COMPLETE books.
