Norgorber in Gods and Magic

Product Discussion

I recently picked up a copy of Gods and Magic and I've been reading through it. I noticed that Norgorber's picture doesn't match the description of his Avatar. The description says that he appears dressed in brown and black. The problem is that his picture shows him in purple/violet and black. Now I think the purple and black looks much cooler so that is what he will have in my campaign. I was just wondering if his description changed at some point in development and nobody noticed?

I've noticed similar glitches, and I'm pretty sure that when an official response comes down it will be something like:

"The art came in too close to deadline to send back for time and/or economical reasons so we ran it."

The other instance I can recall this happening with was the description of/art for Robahl Nonon in Sixfold Trial AP module.

A god's avatar doesn't always look like the god does in its true form, which also may not be what the god is depicted as in artwork.

Heck, Desna's true form probably isn't even humanoid, let alone elven.

I know its a whole other setting, but to point out an established setting where this is obvious, in the Dragonlance setting, Paladine is mentioned as being depicted as a platinum dragon, and also as a knight wearing platinum armor, but yet his most common avatar seen in the books is a befuddled wizard wearing brown robes.

Similarly, Takhisis is mentioned as having the form of a five headed dragon, and the Dark Warrior, a warrior wearing fearsome black armor, but we also see her in the form of the Seductress.

The Robahl Nonon incident was indeed an error of that type. But as SKR points out... the differences between a god's avatar and the god itself can be pretty huge. And even then, most gods can change appearances often as well... particularly one like Norgorber. He can wear purple/black clothes or brown/black clothes or whatever.

Ah HA!! That makes perfect sense, and the response is greatly appreciated.

I tend to think on too small a scale, I guess. Deific power is truly beyond me.
