You are hastily summoned to the Lorespire Complex by Venture-Captain Arvin. The no-nonsense venture-captain quickly gets to the business at hand.
The tall and confident lashunta man gestures to several functional chairs, inviting you to sit.
“Thank you for arriving so quickly. As I mentioned in my comm message, we have an urgent opportunity to recover some critical information.
“Several months ago, a crew of Starfinders took a ship called the Unbounded Wayfarer into the Vast to explore a series of uncharted
planets. They never returned. Earlier today, a vesk pawnbroker in the Downlow neighborhood contacted us, offering to sell us several Starfinder insignias. These insignias belonged to the lost crew of the Unbounded Wayfarer, and that immediately caught the Society’s attention. The pawnbroker—named Julzakama—doesn’t realize the true value of the insignias. We negotiated a purchase price in exchange for the insignias and information about the seller. We hope this seller can lead us to the Unbounded Wayfarer and its crew.
“We’ve remotely transferred the requested credits to Julzakama. Now, we need you to collect the insignias and all the information you can from the vesk regarding whoever sold him the insignias, and then track down that seller. Learn where to find the Unbounded Wayfarer and its crew. I’m worried that the seller might not be on the station for long, so act quickly. If you have any questions, please make them fast.”
Lady Onyx De Haland |
Lady Onyx was a slender but short lashunta, Her antenna protruding from her forehead. Her clothing was typical of a noble of her race. But her belt had a more functional look to it, even if it was brightly colored. She smiled at the others there.
::"Well we have the address, I think we could go."::
She projected into thire minds.
"I am so sorry, forgive me, I was rushing and forgot to not impose my thoughts words unless unless agreed on, I do offer my apologizes. I will repeat with sound, we have the address, I think we could go"
Xanthis Xarthis |
Werepox's pregen checking in.
A male shirren stands at the back wearing priestly vestments..
"Do not apologize for being evolved Miss Onyx. If we have the address we should be going."
Revvy Bitterleaf |
"Well, we might have need for him again at some point in the future..but we can do wonders to mend broken bones these days. so nothing that can't be undone please, other wise I leave it up to your...discretion."
Julzakama is a domineering brute and only the truly desperate deal with him. Further, he responds better to bluster than to honeyed words.
(the PCs gain a +2 insight bonus to Intimidate checks against Julzakama for the remainder of the adventure
As you check your personal datapads an adress to a pawnshop called Julzakama’s Loans has been uploaded. Downlow is a poor and densely populated section of the Spike that extends below Absalom Station. Julzakama’s shop is less than an hour from the Lorespire Complex, the headquarters of the Starfinder Society, and reaching the run-down store should be fairly simple.
Revvy Bitterleaf |
What kind of check on the DC?
@Xanthis; Good point...I forgot to include that's it's a culture check for some reason..
As a side note, if you don't try to remember it yourself but go about asking other people about it on your way there - since you have an hour travel time anyways you can get the same information with a DC 15 diplomacy check@Obozaya; it doesn't count for the Mercenary theme
Xanthis Xarthis |
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12 The young priest tries to gather information as they travel, but comes up with nothing.
If he can take 10 on that diplomacy it would hit the mark. Or a couple of aids I suppose.
Revvy Bitterleaf |
Assuming you go to the adres you have;
Although some areas of Downlow are clean and trendy, this narrow alley of concrete and metal buildings drips with oil and sparking wires. A wide, red neon electric sign reads “Julzakama’s Loans” on a building sandwiched between a Kuthite sensation house and a derelict building covered with graffiti. The shop’s solid metal door contains a single, small window too grimy to peer through.
When you enter;
The interior of Julzakama’s Loans is crammed with shelves containing all manner of near-valueless items, from small appliances to VR game consoles and jars of colored powders. The shop has the acrid smell of a reptile house that has not been cleaned in months. A massive vesk in a muscle shirt stands at the rear of the shop, behind a low desk and a series of heavy metal bars anchored into the ceiling.
He is carelessly disassembling an old computer, but he looks up from his work when you enter.
Revvy Bitterleaf |
As Obozaya mentions the Starfinder insignias, Julzakama gives a wide smile. He slides a metal box through a gap in the bars, thanking you for your business. The box contains seven insignias bearing the compass-like logo of the Starfinder Society.
The vesk scratches the scaly skin between his bony beardspikes with a clawed hand and says, “Seems I’m now fully paid for those trinkets there. I remember Arvin said something about wanting information, too, and I can do that. But information costs extra.”
As Lady Onyx starts to talk her reconsiders
" ..well normally it cost extra, but for you lot...I will chalk it up to ..further relationship investments.."
"“All right, all right; the seller was named Exegara, and she wasn’t from around here. Wore a flight suit, like she had come off a long trip. Once she had her money, she asked about where to purchase clean skeletons. I don’t carry goods like that, so I sent her to the Vat Garden.”
"She was definitely an Eoxian. She looked like a man-ling, but didn’t breathe or blink or anything”, and she mentioned something about hiring some local muscle “just in case.”
Demand exceeded their supply, so the family took in any sort of biological waste as mulch to grow their riotous tangle of plants.
This side business is not technically illegal, and the ysoki cultivate good relations with local law enforcement for protection.
Note; you can use Diplomacy to get the same information if you use it gather information
Xanthis Xarthis |
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Asking around Xanthis is able to determine some information.
"It seems this Vatgardens is just that, a garden, but apparently they use dead bobdies as organic fertilizers.. Very interesting. We should go quickly."
Revvy Bitterleaf |
The station passageways open into an enormous sunken pool filled with a riotous growth of plants. A narrow walkway leading to other parts of Downlow encircles the overgrown vat, and a spire of some kind of machinery stands in its center. For such a busy section of Downlow, the area is surprisingly quiet. Two ladders and a steep staircase pierce the foliage and lead down into the vat.
Let me know if you want to do anything other then just walk in, you know there might be someone whom you are after so if you want to use stealth to sneak in or do something else..now might be the time..you are still in the passageway and don't have a good view down - both because of the plants and because you are not near the edge of walkway

I just noticed that there's only 3 of us actually posting. Where's everyone else? You have to have 4 to be a legal table right?
Blake's SF Iconic 2 |
They all tagged the Gameplay thread, but you're right, I haven't seen them post since muster. Hard to know what's Hurricane related. However, to answer your question: you need 1 GM and 3 players to make a legal table (someone plays an NPC, usually the GM).
Revvy Bitterleaf |
I'm also not sure what happened there should be 6. Or at the very least 4..zap-zap is dotted in on to gameplay so should see updates I don't want to kick anyone in case it's because of the hurricanes but since this is a series of quests it should be relatively easy to get a replacement (or 2) and just re-run a part they've missed if it turns into that. I'll give it another day and go invite another person on the wait list you so you guys will at least have a forth before going into combat.

Howdy Everybody! I'll try to integrate as seamlessly as I can
Turning the corner moving in a rush, with a drone following short on her heals, runs an android, a custom rig slung over one shoulder and a gun in her holster. She slides to a stop near the other pathfinders, panting, her drone mimicing her movements, even down to the panting.
Sorry I'm late! I'm still getting use to this whole... "Space" thing!
The Android has a stylized symbol of a blue scarab on the back of her neck, and the same pattern is painted on the drone. On her armor, however, is the symbol of the dataphiles.
Her drone is also kinda has a vid screen where a face would be, emoting a bright yellow smiley face as it gives a shrug.
Gear glares back at the thing and snorts.
Shut up Boytoy. I know you didn't say it, but I could hear you think it.
She turns back to the team.
Names Gear, heard you might need someone handy with a wrench, so the society sent me. This is Boytoy, don't mind him, he mostly passes me said wrench.
She looks around at where they are exploring.
You can fill me in later... I'll just follow behind for now until i get caught up.
GM_Starson |
Gear pulls her own weapon, and Boytoy takes a defensive position in front of her, ready to shield her body with his own. As he does so, a small slot in his arm opens up and drops his own pistol into his hands.

A cloacked figure is sifting through the plants’ roots, adding skulls to a small pile she has already assembled. Her three hired mercenaries, brutal human thugs keep watch. The woman is lanky and dressed in a flight suit and wrapped in a concealing cloak. The mercs are muscled thugs with matching sneers carry azumizit laster pistols and assault hammers.
The woman and her mercenaries attack immediately when they notice Lola talking above them.

Some environmental stuff which you might not be aware of in character..but it helps to know out of character for when you start to do thing;
The floor of the Vat Garden is 15 feet lower than the walkway surrounding it, and the foliage is so thick that creatures in the vat have total concealment (50% miss chance) from creatures up on
the walkway. Within the vat, the orderly rows of plants provide concealment (20% miss chance) to opponents more than 10 feet away; enemies closer than this do not benefit from concealment.
The two ladders and steep staircase leading down into the vat are easy to navigate, but the PCs can also climb down the plants themselves with a successful DC 15 Athletics check.
Map is linked at the top of the page.

@Blake; I think the rule is that with a miss chance you don't choose what is good for you, with a 20% miss chance 1-20 is a miss, with a 50% miss chance 1-50% is a miss, etc
@Lady Onyx, not your time to act yet..so you will still be standing when the enemies start to fire

Re: Concealment in SF: We're both wrong, but you're more right than me. In PF, it was undefined, so PbP the GM usually specifies. Since you hadn't, I went with RePete's SOP. However, SF has defined it as 1 to 20/50 is a miss. However, the target is the one who rolls. Feel free to use my roll and make it a miss or have Red make his roll.

I've added a drone icon. And I'm pretty sure they took out the 5 step in Starfinder and changed it to something called a guarded step so if you want to move at all..it costs you a move action now but since we don't know where boytoy started I'll keep your actions as if. Also..not sure where you wanted to move so I moved you 6 squares to the left of the wall, if you wanted to go somewhere else let me know
You can carefully step 5 feet as a move action. This movement
doesn’t provoke attacks of opportunity (see page 248), even if
you’re in a threatened square (see page 255).

Ah, good to know. If everyone is on board with it I prefer to have players roll for their own miss chance though. I think it helps if players can see if someone missed before I have to tell them. I think it helps with picking targets in pbp. In real life you get an answer much faster
