Appearance
Dagmar’s fiery red hair is now streaked with the grey of age, usually worn up in braids or a bun. Her once sharp features, softened to an almost grandmotherly round face. Dagmar is usually seen covered in bits of meat, flour, and soot, as the owner of Dagmar’s Chophouse, a small tavern attached to the town’s butchershop.

Personality
Dagmar is own of the older Dwarves in town, having seen much in her 120 years. She knows firsthand of the troubles and risks with trying to reclaim Dammerhall. She lost her husband some 75 years ago on expedition, and her sons 30 years ago. Dagmar however, hides her pain & fear in sarcasm and good natured grousing, like any good dwarf should! She has sworn not to lose any more kin. And to do that, she must tag along. Afterall, without her, “They’ll all bloody starve, they will. Mark me words.” She is tenacious and stubborn and fiercely loyal. Since the lost of her own children, Dagmar has become known as Aunt Dagmar to most dwarves. Her Chophouse always has a hot meal for dwarves who can’t afford it. She dishes out motherly advice, usually in the form of stories and ancestral tales along with her food. But do not anger her, she has a fiery temper and wields a mean cleaver.

Backstory
While Dagmar was not alive when Dammerhall first fell, her parent had been. They would tell her tales of those first few decades. Dwarven kin fighting for rights to rule & where to rule from. Differences in opinion how where to go, other dwarven holdings, towns of man, forging a new hold. The attacks that came in the night, Orc raiders, Dragons, things that crept out of the caves & tunnels that were never seen, but left missing dwarves and bloodstains. The one thing they always instilled in her was hope. Hope one day Dammerhall would be reclaimed. Dwarves would thrive once again. But each passing year, every failed expedition, hope began to fade. Dagmar had always enjoyed cooking, taught from childhood by her mother, while listening to tales of the days after Dammerfall. Like her mother, she found that little compared to a hearty hot meal in the ability to give downtrodden and lost dwarves hope.

Dagmar married at a young age to one of the last sons of Tharnhammer, and older dwarf named Bhelnur, who’s grandfather had been the King’s uncle and Royal Chronicler. While her husband had not been in direct line, he was Tharnhammer blood and he wanted to ensure heirs, if Dammerhall was ever reclaimed. Despite their age difference, Dagmar truly loved her husband. His death, when their sons were still long, affected Dagmar deeply. She spent many hours praying at Folgrit’s shrines for strength and guidance. Her prayers were answered by spirits. First by the Spirit of Flame who liked her kindred fiery spirit, her devotion to her kin, her mothering nature. Then soon followed the spirits of their ancestors.

After the loss of her husband, and under tutelage of the spirits, Dagmar made sure her sons knew of their father's family and their roles as chroniclers and possible heirs. She taught them to read by their father journals and of the stories her parents had told her. She knew one day, they would also try to reclaim Dammerhall, like their father. While the possibility of losing them as well haunted her, she knew why they had to go. And tragedy struck again. That was the last expedition sent, one of the largest since the first ones after the fall. It was not only devastating for Dagmar, but for all dwarves. To battle her own despair, Dagmar found solace in her cooking and with her spirits once again. Feeding all hungry dwarves and becoming a surrogate mother to those who needed it.

Now the whispers have started again. A rumored route, a new way to Dammerhall. A new expedition into the dark. And Dagmar is determined to go. She may not been the best fighter. The magics the spirits have taught her may not be the strongest. But if ever there was a dwarf who had the heart and determination to see this though, it was Dagmar. And if they stay thru to the past, the sprits of the ancestors may just help guide them.
