If an invisible creature makes multiple, iterative attacks on their turn, do they gain the benefits of being invisible for their first attack only, or all of them?

Are there any good ways for an alchemist to avoid attacks of opportunity? Foes with good reach and Combat Reflexes can be a real pain when trying to use Fast Bombs!

If a character makes multiple attacks in a round of a type that provokes attacks of opportunity (eg a full attack with a ranged weapon, or an alchemist with Fast Bombs) and they are threatened by a foe with Combat Reflexes, does the foe get to make an AoO for each of the character's attacks, or only one AoO (for the full-round action)?

My players recently encountered a good-aligned creature that was behaving oddly - acting threateningly when they approached and not speaking to them - but they couldn't detect any magic effects on it. They realised that they wouldn't be able to detect a spell with an instantaneous duration, and the player of the witch PC asked if they knew of any specific spells that could create this observed behaviour, by virtue of her very high Knowledge (arcana) and Spellcraft skills. Is this a reasonable request? What might they know?

Can a (druid wildshaped into a) huge air elemental carry other medium creatures while flying? How many? Can those creatures cast spells while being carried? Make ranged attacks?

Can other medium creatures ride a huge air elemental while it is flying? How many? Can those creatures cast spells while riding? Make ranged attacks?

Using the guidelines for Estimating Magic Item Gold Piece Values for a ring of divine favor +3 gives a price of 72,000 gp (spell level 1 x caster level 9 x 2,000 gp x 4 for a spell duration measured in rounds). Does that seem right to you? It seems to compare reasonably with an amulet of mighty fists +4 (80,000 gp), given that it gives its bonus to any attack and weapon damage rolls, and it's a bonus type (luck) that will stack with many other standard attack and damage bonuses.

Can a zen archer monk select their bow for the monk weapon skill trait?

Various things (eg precipitation) can reduce visibility ranges to three-quarters or half of normal. But what are normal visibility ranges outdoors?

Do the penalties to ranged attacks from fog and snow apply to a creature with the Improved Precise Shot feat? I guess they do, RAW, since these penalties aren't labelled as either cover or concealment. RAI, though, they do seem to me to represent a form concealment/cover (which is less than total).

Can incorporeal creatures be set on fire (say, by a fire storm spell)? I'm inclined to say that they can catch on fire, but the fire won't damage them.

When a menhir savant uses the spirit sense ability, can they tell which of the kinds of creature they are detecting?

What languages would have been spoken in ancient Thassilon? I'm asking in order to assign languages to an Int-boosting item that dates from that period.

What languages would have been spoken in ancient Thassilon?

Some items that grant enhancement bonuses to Intelligence (eg the staff of mithral might, dance of seven veils, robe of runes) make no mention of granting ranks in specific skills (unlike the headband of vast intelligence and others). How should the skill ranks granted by these items be handled? Should the player get to choose where to place them? Should they go on randomly-determined knowledge skills? Something else?

The area affected by the spell source severance is a "5-ft.-radius emanation, centered on you". What squares on the grid does this affect, if you are a Medium creature? Just yours? Yours, and the the four squares orthogonal to you? Yours, and the eight squares around you?

What squares does this affect if you are a Large creature? How about if you are a Huge creature?

Now, suppose you are a creature with some spells active on you, standing adjacent to a creature under the effect of a source severance that would suppress your spells. If you are a Large creature, does the source severance suppress your active spells? How about if you are a Huge creature? Does the answer to these questions depend on how many of your squares are in the area of the source severance?

I have a player who would like to play a skald with a bear as an animal companion. Is this possible? If so, what's the easiest way to achieve it? He'll be starting at 11th level.

Thanks!

Are the heights of the various buildings in Sandpoint listed anywhere? Longtooth is about to attack the town in my game, and I'm wondering how high up he'll be when he's "periodically landing on the roofs of sturdy buildings"...

When I try to follow the "Frequently Asked Questions" link on this page:

https://paizo.com/pathfinder/rpg

which I believe leads to:

https://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/faq

the page content never loads, leaving just a header. It actually looks like the page is repeatedly reloading itself.

Please can you cancel my subscription to the Starfinder Adventure Path? Thank you!

Incidentally, why doesn't the "Manage My Subscriptions" page let me manage my subscriptions?

Witch hexes are supernatural abilities, and thus do not allow spell resistance, as a rule. However, the healing hex "acts as a cure light wounds spell" - and cure light wounds allows spell resistance. So does the healing hex allow SR or not?

One of my players has been running an alchemist, focusing on bombing. He'd now like to rebuild it to become more of a tank - getting into melee and soaking up attacks. What suggestions would you offer? Here's his current build:

Hobogblin alchemist 6

10 Str, 16 Dex, 11 Con, 19 Int, 8 Wis, 7 Cha

Discoveries: frost bomb, precise bombs, wings

Feats: Point-Blank Shot, Precise Shot

Alternate Racial Traits: engineer, scarred

Formulae: adhesive spittle, bomber's eye, cure light wounds, enlarge person, shield, stone fist, true strike, vomit swarm

There are a few things missing from the above list, as I don't have an up-to-date character sheet to hand. All Paizo sources are acceptable. Thanks in advance!

Can anyone give some examples of "class features that depend upon form", which a character would lose while under the effects of a polymorph spell? How about some class features that don't depend upon form, which you would presumably retain?

Recently, some of my subscription items weren't shipped, due to an error. This led to several of them being shipped together, which cut down on the shipping costs. I subsequently got to wondering whether it would be possible to do this on a regular basis. That is, would it be possible for the single subscription item that's due to be shipped to me in early September (PF AP #122) to instead be shipped with the two subscription items that are due to be shipped in late September/early October (SF AP #2 and PF AP #123)? And then the same thing done every two months? If it is possible, how would I go about managing it?

Many thanks for your help!

I have a player with a 5th-level catfolk archivist bard. She's very happy with the lore-based elements of the character, but would like to be able to make more of a direct contribution to combat (ie more than using bardic performance or spells to buff the rest of the party). She has the cat's claws racial trait, and Weapon Finesse, but is a little squishy (not great AC or hp), so is looking for ways to get in and out of melee occasionally and doing some damage without getting hurt too much. What's the best way of achieving this? She's considering taking some levels in rogue for sneak attack.

Her stats are as follows:

Str 10
Dex 17
Con 10
Int 16
Wis 6
Cha 14

Dear Customer Service team

I received an email from you indicating that my subscription payment had been declined on June 9. I went to My Account / My Subscriptions on the website and saw that my card had expired, so I used the "Update Expiration Date" button to put in the new expiration date for that card, and thought no more of it. However, I have recently got back from holiday to find that no further issues of my susbcription have been shipped. Surprised, I went back to My Subscriptions on the website and saw that the Payment Method was still showing the old expiration date for the card. I then went through the update process again - clicking on "Update Expiration Date", changing the year using the drop-down menu, clicking on "Select This Payment Method" - to find that, after a short processing delay, the page refeshes and jumps to the top without giving any error message, but when I scroll down I see that the date is still the old one! I have been through this process using Firefox, Chrome and Microsoft Edge, and the same thing happens every time.

What should I do now?

When a character is under the effect of a levitate spell, can she change her orientation (to become "prone" in mid-air, for example)? If so, would she need something solid to push against to achieve this? Could she, for example, levitate until her head touched a ceiling, then keep levitating her feet up until she was flat against the ceiling?

How about if she was lying down when she started levitating? Would she remain in the same orientation, or become upright? Could she choose to become upright, or stay lying down, or something in-between?

One of my players would like to play a hybrid class made from the paladin (stonelord archetype) and druid (menhir savant archetype). Can anyone offer suggestions as to what a balanced version of this class would look like? He is keen to retain what he sees as the key elemets of each class - the stonelord's defensive stance, and some of the druid's spellcasting.

If a creature flying in gaseous form went to sleep, would it stay in the air or descend to the ground? If the latter, at what speed would it descend?

The lastest issue of my AP subscription (The Inferno Gate) arrived badly bent - the card envelope had been crushed in one corner. What's the process for complaining to the postal service about this and seeking compensation? I'm in the UK.

Thank you!

Why are the DCs for N’vesh-n’kar's spell-like abilities only 16? Shouldn't they be 26: 10 + 5 (spell level) + 11 (Cha bonus)?

26 people marked this as FAQ candidate. Answered in the FAQ.

I'm of the opinion that a paralyzed creature that is under the effects of a fly spell can still fly around (since a paralyzed creature "can take purely mental actions" and "using a fly spell requires only as much concentration as walking"). Assuming that's the case, what penalties would you assign to such a creature? It seems to me that the creature wouldn't count as helpless (since it isn't "completely at an opponent's mercy"), nor is it fully paralyzed (since it isn't "unable to move"), so I wouldn't treat it as having a Dexterity of 0. On the other hand, it can't fully use its Dexterity to avoid attacks (or dodge spells), so some sort of penalty seems in order. What do you think?

Is there a list of the characters in the various sets, along with an overview of the character's theme/abilities, anywhere? The card lists just have the names, and there is a little info in the product blurbs, but it would be great to be able to see all this in one place...

I have a low-Str, high-Dex catfolk archivist bard in a party of six (currently 2nd level), where there is only one character focused on melee - the other four use ranged weapons or spells. I'd really appreciate some input on how this character can best contribute to combat, and thus what feats, etc, I should consider taking. I don't have much experience playing Pathfinder, and all official Paizo material is usable. Thanks in advance!

In Kings of the Rift, if the PCs manage to ally themselves with Vercinabex, it says that "he’ll lead the PCs to the Carrion Pit and even aid them in reaching the key." But in the descriptions of the Carrion Pit, it makes no mention of how events will unfold if this is the case. In particular, the only course of action outlined for Charlgar is attacking the PCs - but Charlgar is an ally of Vercinabex's. Has anyone played a game in which the PCs and Vercinabex were allied? If so, how did their visit to the Carrion Pit play out?

I have a dozen items waiting in my sidecart to be shipped with my subscription. Ideally, I'd like for these items to be shipped in the most economical way possible, even if that means I have to wait several months to receive them all. I'm not sure if it's possible for you to work out how to do that, but I thought I'd ask. Thanks!

I just placed a new order, but wasn't given the normal option to combine it with my subscription mailing, nor can I now change the shipping instructions. Please could you do that for me?

How big is Dragotha's phylactery? How much does it weigh? In The Library of Last Resort it's described as "a large package, a strange container with its sides carved in the shapes of leering demonic and draconic faces" - but how big is a large package? The illustration in Kings of the Rift matches that description, but has no sense of scale. Here, it's described as "a ruby-red box, its faces carved with leering dragons" that floats within the ribcage of a dragon statue. It's clear from the stats provided that it's not a standard Tiny lich's phylactery, and it's implied that a Large humanoid would be able to pick it up and carry it away, but that's about all there is to go on.

What happens when you try to grapple a creature that is already grappled by the sticky fibers of a web spell? Is there a chance that you will become grappled by the web? The spell states that "Attacking a creature in a web doesn't cause you to become grappled", but does that include grappling a creature in a web?

Suppose you successfully grapple the webbed creature - does that creature then suffer double the grappling penalties? If the creature wants to break free, would it have to break your grapple and the web's grapple separately, meaning that it couldn't accomplish this in a single round?

If Medium-sized creatures A, B and C are all standing in a line, with A and C adjacent to B, does B provide soft cover if A and C are attacking each other with reach or ranged attacks?

Has anyone made (or come across) a 2D version of the map of the Citadel of Weeping Dragons from Kings of the Rift?

If the PCs kill the efreet in Darl's group, won't he return to his home plane, along with all his carefully-described possessions?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

The Interactive Maps that come with the pdf have some errors in. For example, when you click the "Map Tags Off" on page 3, none of the brightly-coloured arrows indicating the directions of the stairs disappear, nor do the the text boxes showing the map scale. Do you think there's any chance that a corrected version of this might be available soonish? If not, I'll have to look for another version, as my players are about to explore this area.

Thanks!

The spellthief's Steal Spell Effect ability reads as follows:

Spoiler:
Steal Spell Effect (Su): Beginning at 2nd level, a spellthief can siphon an active spell effect from another creature. A spellthief who hits an opponent with a sneak attack can choose to forgo dealing 1d6 points of sneak attack damage and instead gain the effect of a single spell affecting the target. If the target is willing, a spellthief can steal a spell effect with a touch as a standard action.

The spellthief can choose which spell effect to steal; otherwise, the DM determines the stolen spell effect randomly. If a spellthief tries to steal a spell effect that isn't present, the stolen spell effect is determined randomly from among those currently in effect on the target. A spellthief can't steal a spell effect if its caster level exceeds his class level + his Charisma modifier.

Upon stealing a spell effect, a spellthief gains the stolen effect (and the original creature loses that effect) for 1 minute per class level (or until the spell's duration expires, whichever comes first). If the spell effect's duration hasn't expired by this time, the spell effect returns to the creature that originally benefited from it.

A spellthief can steal the effect of a spell only if the spell could be cast on him by the original caster. For example, a spellthief couldn't gain the effect of an animal growth spell (unless the spellthief is of the animal type) or the effect of a shield spell (since that spell's range is personal). If a spellthief tries to steal the effect of a spell not allowed to him, the effect is still suppressed on the original target of the spell for 1 minute per spellthief class level.

This ability does not work on spell effects that are immune to dispel magic (such as bestow curse).

If a spellthief tries to steal a spell effect whose caster level exceeds his class level + his Charisma modifier, is the effect suppressed on the original target of the spell for 1 minute per spellthief class level?

I am trying to order a print/PDF bundle as a gift. However, when I get to the "Select Gift Recipients" screen, I get a message "Download recipients must have a paizo.com account" and if I click on the "Continue Checkout" button, nothing happens. There's no print only option for this item, so it appears that I simply can't order it as a gift?

It would be great if you could fix this issue so that I can place the order, and even better if the print copy could be sent to my friend's postal address, while I could download the PDF from my paizo.com account.

Thanks!

I'm worried that, if Darl is properly prepared to fight the PCs (which he should be, as written in the adventure), he'll easily defeat my group of four 17th-level PCs. I've read several threads here on this fight, but none of them mention what seems to me a significant factor: with the hand of Vecna, Darl can use unholy aura to ward his entire group just before the fight. If, in addition, he uses his wand to put stoneskin on everyone in advance, they're going to be pretty tough to deal with, it seems to me. Has anyone run the combat this way?

Darl Quethos has several wands in his gear, including a wand of stoneskin and a wand of charm monster - but these two spells aren't on the spell lists for a cleric of Vecna with the Knowledge and Magic domains, and Darl doesn't have any ranks in UMD, so I don't think he can use those wands! Am I missing something?

The countersong ability seems quite out of place for the archivist bard - it's strange that they didn't replace it. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what a suitable replacement might be, that fits better with the archivist concept?

How long would it take an average PC on foot to reach the top of a mountain that's 10,000 feet high? At what point does the PC stop walking and start having to make Climb checks (at a quarter speed)? How many Fortitude saves against fatigue will the PC have to make?
