I'm looking at the Fame and Item purchases table in the guide and
I just realized that it is wrong. I'm just not sure which way.

Its easiest to ask by example.

With a Fame of 6 is my purchase limit 500 gp or 1500 gp?

If it is 500, then the first entry is REALLY 8 or less.

If it is 1500, then the last entry is REALLY 64 or more.

Well consider that an 11th level character playing with the slow progression could potentially have 65 Fame, I would guess that it should be 64 or more.. though really the odds of never missing an award seems quite aberrant to me.

My understanding of the intention is that if you have 6 Fame your purchase power is 500 gp. It should read 8 or less rather than 4 or less.

Yeah, the table got a little screwy when it went from version 3 to version 4 of the Guide. The "or less" should not be there, as you have to have at least 4 Fame in order to purchase anything that is not "always available". So if you have 4-8 Fame, the purchase limit is 500 gold, if you have 9-12 Fame, the limit is 1500 gold, etc.

Which is it? 500 gp requires 4 or more, or 8 or less prestige? I thought it had been settled on as the latter, but perhaps not...

While the entry is certainly confusing, there is no indication the "or less" was an error. It could have been a determination going foward that anything up to 500gp is also "always available." There was no "or less" statement in the previous version, to my recollection. As such this strikes me as a deliberate addition.

The first entry may have just been a holdover from the previous versions, where 4 was the old number. It would seem 8 is the new number.

The first line of this table will be changed to "5 -> 500 gp" in the next update to the document, which is awaiting a few art fixes and editing at the moment. This should clarify that the Fame column represents a series of thresholds unlocking different tiers of items based on market price.

I've ignored the whole "or less" part of the fame score. I assumed the fame score table was unchanged anyhow; 4 fame to be able to make purchases of 500 gp.

Now if yoda (I refuse to call you Mark!) says you now need 5 fame to make purchases of 500 gp, I assume Fame 4 or less will have a gp limit of 50 gp or so. Or 125 gp, if we want to be more in line with the maths of the curve.

Pretty sure that even if your Fame is 4 or less that you still have access to all the goodies in the 'Always Available' category.

So 1st level scrolls & potions, masterwork weapons & armors (& +1 versions of the same). And basic Wayfinders (can't forget them).
