Peacock:
The bolts elude you, but the flasks are potions of endure elements and the manacles are manacles of cooperation.

Jazzai would nod to Hassim. "I wish you the best of luck. As a former slave it feels good to know there are people out there that try to help." She smiles up at him. "Can one of the horses be spared? As you can tell I am quite slow and it would help my companions if I had one to ride. If not it is okay. Also, will you need food and water before you leave? We didn't find much but I am sure you could use it. I am generally pretty good about finding food off the land."

Once that was answered she would move over to Adrien.

"Did you find something Adrien? I will need to sit down with you to have you teach me more about magic. I should learn to understand it better." This is to explain the rank in spellcraft even though I gained it now

She would cast her own detect magic looking at the cloak studying it curiously. "Isn't this item magical?" She asked reaching out eventually pulling out the cloak.

How many days have we been traveling? So I can take away from our current rations. Since I haven't really been doing survival checks. Though with my bonus I could feed us well in most cases.

Kane let Jazzai and Adrian do the talking, occasionally nodding in support or agreement.

He began building a funerary pyre. He would have preferred a proper burial, but out here away from a consecrated tomb, the chances that the corpses would raise as some form of undead were too great. Fire would cleanse the bodies.

He gathered the bodies and said the rights, ushering the spirits off to the Boneyard to await judgement and the final rewards or punishments of their chosen god.

He did not approve of Asmodeus, but his Lady's tenants were clear. Once a person was dead, they were all equal. He would treat them as such.

"I can't tell what these bolts are, but as for the rest, these," Adrien holds the flasks up, "are meant to protect the drinker from... hm... let's see." He pulls the cork and takes just one drop on the tip of his finger, licking it off and tasting it carefully. "Oh! It protects the drinker from the temperature. Cold, hot, you drink this and you'll be fine."

"As for these..." Adrien picks up the manacles, giving a shudder as he feels their aura "These make whoever wears them obey their captors gently. It doesn't look like the enchantment is that strong, though, but it still give me the creeps."

"I'll gladly tell you what I can figure out, Miss Jazzai, but I'm afraid a lot of this is just coming to me spontaneously. It's like... It's kind of like having a new sense that I'm not used to."

Hassim chuckles softly. You are too kind. There seems to be enough provisions for our journey. Thank you for your concern. These horses are draft animals, however, and are not trained for riders. But they certainly could carry you. That monster is certainly well-trained, but it might be too much to handle, he says, referring to the war horse.

Jazzai:
The cloak is a cloak of resistance +2

You have been traveling about eight days. But your Survival skill is high enough to not need to make regular checks.

It takes about a half hour with everyone working to gather enough scrub and brush to build the pyre. Once the bodies are alight, the freed slaves bid the party a fond farewell. They start moving almost immediately, wanting to be far away from the plume of smoke.

Female Human/Eidolon Jazzai's Gear 3 Eidolon HP 23/25 AC 12 Fort +6 Ref +1 Will +6

Jazzai would feel the heat from the Pyre as she shivered slightly. They had landed themselves into trouble but at least these people would be free.

Clasping her hands she prayed quietly.

'Gods of good and freedom. Watch over them and guide them upon their journey. Give your protection so they may succeed.'

Once they bid farewell she would pull out her own coin pouch and pushes it into Hassim's hands.

"To help you on your journey." She would tell him quietly before heading off with the others.

Approaching the war horse she would see if she could at least tempt it to follow them so it was not left to fend for itself. She would hand it some of Sunflower's precious carrots. She had determined to try to make friends with it before ever trying to ride it.

"I know you don't like us but we can at least take care of you. I promise not to bite you if I can help it."

Jazzai nodded and waited to see if anyone else spoke up.

"Thank you Sir Kane. If you don't mind I would like to tend to the warhorse if he wishes to come. It is the least I can do for such a loyal creature."

"I've been doing okay staying hidden. I agree that you should take the cloak, Miss Jazzai."

Hassim marvels at Jazzai's generosity and bows deeply. Thank you again. I wish you well in your travels.

Jazzai, unfortunately, I don't see anywhere that Handle Animal works like Wild Empathy. Thus, you're not going to be able to "befriend" the horse, but you can use Handle Animal to essentially "break" it for further training. Basically, I'm going to rule it's essentially wild because of its former strong bond with the Hellknight.

Jazzai finds that the horse's combat training is such that the few tricks that had Sunflower eating out of her hands is not going to work on it. Instead it rears up, neighing loudly, before returning to the funeral pyre.

Moving things on a bit.

After the former slaves push on north using their former cages as instruments of their freedom, the group finds itself alone again. Their best guess is that their destination lies east of their present location, so they have a direction to travel.

Then I can't do anything with him. Wild have to be raised from infant hood and if a 21 didn't make him come with then we continue on without him.

Kane watched her attempts with the horse with a small smile of approval. He knew she probably wouldn't get far with a war-trained steed, but watching her try to goad the animal forward showed the humanity that all three of them were worried about losing.

As she gave up and turned east, he moved next to her silently.

Waiting a bit on Naki. Very interested to see his new mutations! Also, has everyone leveled up?

Feat: Inspiration just struck, though I'd like your approval on it:

I was thinking of picking Additional Traits, to show the influence of the more mischievous Peacock on his human alterego, and his getting in touch with nature. The traits he would gain from it would be Two-World Magic (granting him Create Water from the Druid spell list), and Nonchalant Thuggery, which grants +4 to bluff checks to stop people from noticing one's aggressive actions, representing the innate talent of fey to appear innocent. I'd like to build a little on the chaotic influence fey have on Adrien, and I think this might be a good fit.

As his mutagen rushes through his system Naki feels something twist inside his abdomen. Grasping at it he shrieks in agony as another set of legs force their way out as his lower half reorganizes itself again. Elongating further his rear end now looks like a very truncated black widow abdomen. As the changes continue the lower portion of his torso writhes and thrashes taking on the form of the spiders thorax. His legs arrange themselves around it, the last bits of humanity fading from his original pair as they take the shapely and sleek black chitin of the black widow. The waist above narrows giving a much more curvy, feminine, appearance to the already androgynous Naki. Her face morphs further as well, the cheekbones raising, the nose becoming more delicate. Finally her hair stops growing as it reaches half her back. She stumbles a little looking at the others in shock, and a little fear.

Female Human/Eidolon Jazzai's Gear 3 Eidolon HP 23/25 AC 12 Fort +6 Ref +1 Will +6

Reassured by the heavy footsteps of Kane beside her she felt a little of her worry go away. She wanted to bring the horse with but the time it would take would eat into their time to get away. The group would be in danger.

Hearing Naki shriek Jazzai nearly jumps out of her skin. But feeling another set of legs hit the ground she figured it was another mutation. Hurrying to him she would reach out. "Are you okay? Anything I can do to help?"

"I..." Her voice is still clearly hers but much softer. Regaining some composure she shrugs, "A very very unusual side effect. I think I may re-examine my control methods for testing in the future. Now that the pain has past I do feel VERY good. Though this sensation... hmm I wonder." Naki seems to concentrate for a moment and then begins to spin webbing. "Most intriguing..."

"... and I thought I was the weird one for having feathers on my back.", Peacock quips.

He curiously approaches Naki, visibly curious about the doctor's new transformation.

"Do you... think you'll be okay? That sounded really painful..."

Turning to peacock and flexing the new legs she smiles, probably the first not awkward smile you've seen from Naki, "Quite painful, but one cannot argue with results. I feel fantastic." Looking ruefully at the lab coat as it barely does more than cover the upper torso at the moment. "I may have to invest in some tailoring if this goes much further."

Female Human/Eidolon Jazzai's Gear 3 Eidolon HP 23/25 AC 12 Fort +6 Ref +1 Will +6

Jazzai's ears twitched at the new voice from Naki. It was definitely more feminine than before, and she could hear even more subtle changes than most others. Also, the smell coming from Naki was definitely that of a female, and was similar but not the same as the large widow they had been near when they were bringing it to Naki's lab.

"Well that is good. You sound and smell more like a female now. I am guessing the female black widow is dominant in your transformation."

Jazzai, did you experience any physical changes? That might bear mentioning.

Female Human/Eidolon Jazzai's Gear 3 Eidolon HP 23/25 AC 12 Fort +6 Ref +1 Will +6

Yes, sorry been running around like a Maniac and forgot.

Jazzai's appearance at first seemed unchanged. Then a noticable red tint started to cover her hair and the hair on her ears which became more wolf/dog like and moved a little higher on her head. Her toughened hide and skin turned a shade of red with slight speckles of black. This was most noticable along the back of her neck where her clothes didn't cover. The back of her hands when they weren't covered by her sleeves. Her nails even grew a darker shade of grey. Her face got a more predatory look to it and her eyes glowed slightly.

All along the softer parts of her body, front of her neck, face, and "underbelly" remained unchanged.

If the light hit her hair just right it looked like her hair was on fire.

Confused Twisted Human (HP:18 /AC:11 T:11 FF:10 CMD:14/22(trip) F:3 W:2 R:4 /Init:+1 Perc:+7 ) Current: (HP:18 /AC:11 T:11 FF:10 CMD:14/22(trip) F:3 W:2 R:4 /Init:+1 Perc:+7 )

assuming we are moving on to the camp for the night.
Moving about Naki looks distastefully at her bedroll. "I'm going up into this tree tonight... It feels more right..." Her legs wrap around it as she climbs the largest tree next to the clearing and settles in among the branches. She looks much more comfortable.

HP 19/22, AC 17, Fort +8, Ref +3, Will +4, Smite 1/1, LoH 3/3

Kane went still as Naki's changes began. His eyes flared with the dull purple glow that signified he was using Pharasma's sight to judge the hearts of those before him. He was dreading the results, worried that the monstrous changes that were overtaking the entire group might have finally eroded what was left of their humanity.

It was at that point that he realized the quest he was on was secondary to his true purpose. His duty was to protect people. To rout out monsters who preyed on the innocent. Any of them might become exactly that at any moment. His duty was clear. He had to keep the group together and watch over them, try to save them from losing themselves to their own changing natures.

If he could not save them he would be the one to end them.

It all only took moments. Naki was still Naki. Jazzai was still Jazzai. He let out the breath he didn't realize he'd been holding. For them it was just another change among many, a moment of discomfort and discovery that changed their bodies.

For him it was a moment that changed his soul.

He looked around at his companions and began regretfully planning how to kill them.

Female Human/Eidolon Jazzai's Gear 3 Eidolon HP 23/25 AC 12 Fort +6 Ref +1 Will +6

Jazzai would look at Kane and as they settled in for the night. "Is everything okay? You are quieter than your usual self." She said softly. This was saying something since he was normally very quite.

She listened to Naki talk about going into the tree and her sense of the ground soon lost her as her hearing picked her up in the tree.

"I will take first watch. That way you all may get rest. I fed earlier so I wouldn't attack anyone. So there is no need to worry this week." Jazzai told the others even as she started scrounging around the camp for food to help augment the rations they had. She also took the extra bedroll Naki left behind and offered it to Kane and to Adrien seeing if they wished it.

"I'll be fine with the bedroll I have, but I appreciate the offer," Adrien smiles, before a deep yawn overtakes him. "I should probably get some rest, it's been a long day."

Promising to take a guard turn in the morning, Adrien lays his bedroll and blanket at the foot of Naki's tree, quickly falling into a deep slumber...

"Oh! Prince Peacock! there you are! I've been expecting you!"

Hearing the familliar voice of Chancellor Hawk amidst the tranquil birdsong, Peacock flutters to a stop, landing in the forest clearing where a fellow fey was calling for him.

Ruffling his wings back into place and folding them over his back, Peacock took a moment to observe the being in front of him. A sleek, tall fellow, with eyes of green and wings of brown, the man held a bow of his own, a thing of exquisite craftsmanship.

"Your mother, Queen Swandove, asked that I teach you a bit of the court's own branch of archery. We had words of your narrow encounter with the unseelie domain, some time ago. Normally, younglings of the court only learn such things in adulthood, but she decided, given your... situation, that you might be able to make use of such a gift. Come, I've set up some targets this way."

Taking to the skies again alongside the fellow, Peacock found himself with some questions to ask... that didn't seem quite his. "Some days ago, while wandering through the forest, I was attacked by... some dark being. Surely you must be familliar, dark wings, long fangs..."

"Why, my boy, surely you know of the Unseelie! It seems unlike you to forget such things!"

"Oh!" Peacock exclaimed. "Of course I know of them. Forgive my confusion, I don't quite know where my mind was." Why, of course he knew of the court's enemies! Or... was that truly a member of another court? He looked so much like me.

The two fey come to a landing to a set of concentric circles painted onto tree trunks.

"Now, Prince Peacock, I believe you should be able to do this one just fine..." Hawk lifts his bow, taking aim for the target, and pulling back the weapon's string, never bothering to nock an actual arrow. The air glitters from a moment near his hand, and he lets the string fly. Barely an eye's blink later, a cracking sound thunders through the quiet woods, and a deep notch appears in Hawk's target. "Now then, let's see you try."

Following the example, Peacock raises his own bow, and draws the string, only to be surprised by how smooth the weapon's body is. Wait, this isn't my bow... Where's Old Deadeye's emblem! He feels the magic course through his fingers and then into the string, and his eyes wander, absentmindedly, over to his teacher. ... Chancellor Hawk... Why do I know this name? I've never seen this man before before. Wait, where am- Without truly thinking about it, his fingers let the string go.

~~~
CRACK!
Adrien shoots up, his heart pumping, and shot panicked look around, trying to find the source of the sound. The tree's trunk, close to his bed, bears two fresh dents in its bark, showing faint lingering auras of evocation. Did he that? He squints and focuses, trying to remember what just happened. It's still very dark outside; most likely, he reasons, he must have waken up in the middle of the night.
Such a vivid dream... Adrien thinks to himself. It seemed so normal... it's like I was there entirely... or rather... it's like Peacock was there. Like I was the influence and he was the being. [i]Am I... also in Thistlefeather?
Adrien looks around, wondering if any of his companions are awake. He doubts he'll be able to get back to sleep any time soon, and is concerned that he might have awoken them with his magical mishap.
HP 19/22, AC 17, Fort +8, Ref +3, Will +4, Smite 1/1, LoH 3/3
Kane was awake, as usual. He didn't sleep much anymore, and he didn't feel the need to lay down. He found it more comfortable to find some kind of ledge and just crouch. His mind drifted in and out of attention to his surroundings, but his body remained solid and motionless. He hadn't had a muscle cramp or a need to stretch or change position in weeks. He had the feeling that if he needed to he could stay in the same position for days.
He was crouched in the tree a bit away from Naki, looking over the camp and thinking about earlier. Jazzai had asked him if he was alright. He wasn't. None of them were, but he didn't know how to voice his concerns. He didn't want to worry her so he'd simply given a small smile and nodded. He'd said something short and reassuring, and totally insufficient to address the things she was asking him to divulge.
How do I tell her? How could she trust me? What would I say?
Kane hadn't moved when Adrian had fired off some sort of strange bolts and then sat upright from his bedroll. The gargoyle knight said nothing for now, but his yellow eyes tracked his young friend.
Even in their sleep they are a danger to those around them. This is not good.
I forgot to be specific in my last post, though I like to hope I was obvious enough. The 'fairy archery' in action is, of course, Magic Missile.
No worries, Adrien; it came through great.
Let's move on, shall we? As always, I encourage any further interaction and gabbing. Use the spoiler tags or headlines like "Earlier."
The "tree" the group sheltered under for the night was a low, wide scrubby-looking thing that was clearly eking out a rough existence in the arid plain. But it was sufficient for Naki's purposes as she climbed easily into its low branches and rested for the night. When the morning finally arrived, glistening webs stretched in and out of the outstretched limbs, creating a silvery canopy over the rest of the party.
Making their way east, the morning light streams into their faces as the sun climbs into the sky. It soon grows hot, and the sun mercilessly beats down upon the travelers. By the time the sun is overhead, the uneven, rocky ground has given way to true badlands. Rises, clefts and furrows mar the landscape and make for slow going. The sun sets upon the group, which is forced to settle into a small, dry ravine for the night.
The next day is similar rough traveling. Even though they make further progress east, the unforgiving territory seems to speak of the folly of continuing in the direction, and calls to question whether any sort of structure would lie in on up ahead. Thankfully, however, the ability of certain members of the group to fly actually allow a bit of scouting, and by midday a low, squat fort is spotted further east along a distant road.
The discovery is enough to renew everyone's spirits, and they continue onward. Hours of travel pass, and the badlands are behind them. As the sun sinks in the west casting the sky in all manner of oranges and reds, the party approaches the fort that Kane's map had promised.
It sits behind a stone and stucco wall, with a gatehouse that appeared shut. The fort itself is modest, broad and low, but sports a single tower that overlooks the area -- roughly four stories high. The setting sun illuminates the western sides of the outer wall and the fort, bathing it in a ruddy glow.
You have about ninety minutes before sunset. You can reach the gatehouse in about 20 minutes (double that, obviously, if you plan to use stealth). Let me know how you wish to approach the fort.
Naki doesn't spot any moving figures, and the road is dusty and deserted, though a small plume of white-gray smoke rises from behind the fort.
On the eastern side of the bailey, you see a cookfire and a hooded figure roasting some large slabs of meat over the burning embers.
As Peacock catches up she looks back and smiles at him. "What are your orders Sir Kane? Do we attack tonight?"
"Who says that we have to act in violence towards them. I know its orcs but can we not just try talking first." Jazzai asked softly but did smile as everyone asked Sir Kane for orders. He had become their leader.
"Orcs are generally said to be a cruel and evil race... but then, so are fey, in my hometown. I... don't know what to think anymore."
"So.. so they might not be horrid? We might be able to share their fire?" She looks excited. "Sir Kane, what do you think? I know a few stories but this is the first time I've been near them. Once one came through the town, well, a half orc. Butthis is the fort you seek. How do we proceed?"
"Orcs are very territorial, even when they are not outright sadistic and evil. They aren't likely to give up the fort without a fight. Still, I would not feel justified in an ambush. We don't know enough about them to assume they are irredeemable." Kane said.
"I would prefer to attempt to speak with them. I do not expect it to go well, but I would not feel right simply attacking."
She dances excitedly. "So we knock on their door, and if there is to be a battle we face them face to face with honor! Just like in the tales." Her grin just gets wider, "I always snorted at the tales as foolish but I see the thrill of it now."
It's been a couple days since the last fight, Kane. You can reset your info bar.
Assuming everyone will be together. Let me know if anyone wants to do something different, like flying or being stealthy.
The group approaches openly, and once they come within several hundred paces, the alarm is raised by the guards, alerting the entire complex, likely. As they come even closer, the sounds of figures moving about behind the walls and shouts in a guttural tongue become clear. Jazzai is able to pick out the scent of roasted meat wafting from within the walls, though she is entirely unable to ascertain the type of beast the meat came from.
A couple orcs take positions with bows upon the walls, and call down to whoever is in the courtyard. After the group reaches about 40 feet from the gate, it swings open revealing a large orc striding from within the inner structure. Even as he moves, another attendant orc is strapping his armor on in hurried fashion. The "squire" -- if that's what he is -- is also carrying a hide-wrapped greatsword.
The big orc stops at the gate and with a small motion of his hand, orders the squire to stand behind him with the sword at the ready. He crosses his arms across his broad chest and with a deep, gravelly voice, shouts, Whoever you are, stop there and announce yourselves! He takes a long look at each member who is visible, then speaks again, State your purpose for being here! If you mean harm to my family, know that I will gut each and every one of you. Then he uncrosses his arms and rests one hand on the hilt of the sword which is being held out by the orc behind him.
Kane:
Since I figure you'll detect evil, I'll go ahead and let you know now: you detect no evil from any of the orcs within range.
Jazzai heard orcs moving above them and she guessed they were on the walls. Probably with a ranged weapon of sort.
Hearing and feeling the two approaching she halts calmly and smiles. One strode with confidence while the other seemed to be still doing something and in haste. The clink of buckles and rubbing of clothing gave her a vague idea.
Her ears pick up his words easily, he didn't even have to shout and she turned her blind eyes towards him.
"Greetings, I am Jazzai. We mean no harm to your family and in fact came to ask if we may join you around your fire for the evening. Me and my companions have traveled a long time and wish shelter and rest. Also, with your permission we would like to talk trade. While I can provide basic foods and the like my blind eyes can not provide meat that the rest of my companions would surely enjoy. As you can see we wouldn't be the most welcome in a town."
Legs still stirring up a small cloud of road dust Naki looks upon her first Orcs. But Jazzai's words stir something in her and she freezes, looking at herself. By all the gods people will only see me as a monster now too... Who am I to judge an orc?
