Elfire Lightfoot |
"Wonder what this says". He closes his eyes momentarily...and they open with a slight blue glow as he attempts to read the script at its base. Cast read magic
Elfire is attempting to read the inscription at the base of the statue....waiting on into from GM

Elfire Lightfoot |
ok. Your post was a little ambiguous as to which of the 2 sets of inscriptions was the Thassilonian. I thought I was just the script on the archway....it was worth a shot.
Realising that the script is not magical writing he looks at Eoran. "Umm, Eoran...any idea what this says? I can't make heads or tails of it."

Eoran Olyrnn |
’I’ll be right with you.’ Eoran says over his shoulder as he finishes some notes about the arch. He strolls over to the statue and takes a look. ’Now what do we have here?’
Did I learn anything from my knwl history checks?
Helikon |
@ Eoran: You have no clue.
Neither the Black Edifice nor the Thrallkeepers were mentioned in any book you ever read. (This happened too many thousand years ago and all knowledge is gone from this world, or to obscure for a low recruit.
And for the runelord of sloth your roll was too bad.
Kalkamedes moves toward the doors and tries to open them, but alas he is not strong enough.
Elfire Lightfoot |
Oh great...another strength challenge......we havn't had great luck with these
Whilst Eoran is trying to translate the inscription, Elfire walks up to the Great Doors and tries to assist Kalamedes with opening the doors whispering to Pharasma for assistance with this great task.
Strength Check, guidance: 1d20 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 + 1 = 21
Sammi Lightfoot |
Sammi tries to help the other halfling and the sleepwalking human push the door open.
Strength (Aid Another): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
Eoran Olyrnn |
I’m assuming that knowing the language will let me avoid the roll.
’These thrallkeepers seem awfully high on themselves.’ Eoran muses. Or maybe it’s a riddle of some sort.’ Eoran reads the phrases out loud, translated as directly as possible. ’Does this make any sense to any of you?’
Sammi Lightfoot |
"I don't know. Maybe," Sammi confesses to the elf. "Seemed the harder I pushed at the door, the heavier it got."
Elfire Lightfoot |
As the door gives way and swings open Elfire steps back from the door, feeling weary and weak. "Why do my things feel so heavy..."
As he looks at the door his begin eyes change colour again, this time glowing with a slight green hue. Cast Detect Magic towards the door .
Elfire Lightfoot |
"That's weird, this thing on the floor is spewing magic. It must be why I feel like I just woke up after a bad night at the Pig's Paunch. Could be a way of weakening anyone who tries to break in."
Elfire heads back down to the statue and taps Eoran on the shoulder. "Eoran, D'ya know anythin' about this type of magic.....please tell me it wont last long"
Eoran Olyrnn |
Eoran seems surprised at his name bein called, haunched over and focused on jotting down yet more notes in his little book. ’Huh? Magic?... Oh, right, lemme look at it.’ He gets back up and carefully packs away his notebook before looking over the halflings and their pedestal, eyes alight with a faint green glow.
K.Arcana/Spellcraft: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26 Detect magic with whichever of the skills that applies best
Elfire Lightfoot |
Hearing Sammi's comment, Elfire looks up at the door and sees Kalamedes heading through the door. "Oh crap!....We better keep up with him."
Helikon |
@Eoran the pedestral transform strong people to weak and weak to strong.
As you reach the end of the hall you see the following:
Suspended b y thick chains, a massive metal cage shaped like
a demon's head hangs over a dark shaft with no bottom in
sight. The cage's door-by all appearances a menacing maw,
filled with incisor-like fangs-hangs open to the west. There,
a narrow bridge spans the short distance between the ledge
and the cage. A small console on the north edge of the bridge
bears a single lever.
Eoran Olyrnn |
Eoran picks up a small stone, mutters an arcane incantation and the rock bursts into light. He walks over to the edge of the pit and drops the glowing rock, following it with his eyes to the bottom.
When finishes, he reaplies light to whatever had it before.
Elfire Lightfoot |
"How far down d'ya think it goes?....Ans wa'd'ya suppose this is for" spouts Elfire pointing out the lever.
Eoran Olyrnn |
’I honestly have no idea.’ Eoran replies, shrugging his shoulders. ’My master and I rarely really found out what these thassalonians were up to.
Elfire Lightfoot |
Elfire moves over the bridge and into the gaping maw. I'm assuming Kalamedes wants to go down
"well only one way to find out. Who wants to stay and work the lever?"

Sammi Lightfoot |
Heh. Your initiative is 'undefined', Eoran. ;)
Elfire Lightfoot |
and we seem to have gained a party member....Themyscira
Eoran Olyrnn |
I forgot to? ^^ Themyscira was a character from the scenario we played just before this one.
Eoran gathers magical energies around him and glares at the skunk. Whithering its will to fight. Evil eye: 7rounds (will save dc 14 to reduce to 1), -2 to attack
Elfire Lightfoot |
do we have a map for this combat?
Elfire draws his bow and fires an arrow at the skunk making sure to stay out of it's range.
longbow, cold Iron: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15

Sammi Lightfoot |
Sammi dismounts and chucks his sling staff at the skunk.
Slingstaff: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
B: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Moonchaser the Ghost Wolf |
Moonchaser moves to engage the skunk.
Bite: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
S/P/B: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Elfire Lightfoot |
Fort Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
The skunk's must strikes Elfire square in the face. As he coughs at the stench, some of the liquid gets into his mouth and it is all that Elfire can manage not to throw up on the spot whilst moving as far away from the skunk as he can.
Move up to 30 ft away to get away from the skunk...I can take no further actions. Anyone who can cure nausea,I would appreciate it
Moonchaser the Ghost Wolf |
Moonchaser tries to maul the skunk.
Bite: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
B/S/P: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Claw 1: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (7) - 1 = 6
S/P: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Claw 2: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (19) - 1 = 18
S/P: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Sammi Lightfoot |
Sammi loads and fires his slingstaff.
Slingstaff: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
B: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Elfire Lightfoot |
do we still have Gaylin....or has he had to bow out?
Helikon |
Botting Iantha to finish this
Flurry: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 141d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Flurry: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 51d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
With that damage the skunk has enough and runs for it.
You can now take the lift down.
You all enter the lift and are brought down.
Palm-sized shards of jagged steel jut from halfway up the walls of this large cavern, bathing the cavern with a dark green light. A set of natural rock columns support the chamber's ceiling, which rises to a height of twenty feet. A small tunnel leads to the northeast, and several rounded alcoves branch off from the main cavern.
AS you get deeper into the cavern you can see two summoning circles and a green pool. In the eastern circle is a gnome, in the western is a woman on the floor, unconcious.
The gnome is dressed in threadbare clothes and has an unkempt mane of fuchsia hair. He suddenly seems agited and yells."HE yo, please help me.
Elfire Lightfoot |
perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
As Elfire exits the lift and enters the cave (before noticing the circles) he sees what appear to be ancient claw marks on the walls.
"strange...." he notes quiently to noone in particular, "I wonder what made the claw marks...an why?" he continues.
Hearing the gnome call, Elfire rushes over and inspects the circle
"are you alright....why are you in a summoning circle?"
Also what is kalamedes reaction to this place?
Sammi Lightfoot |
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
"What happened? How long have you been down here?" Sammi asks, puzzled.
Iantha |
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
Iantha is distracted by the two circles as soon as she enters, entirely missing the scratches on the walls, as well as Elfire's quiet musing. She rushes towards the two circles as well, though she stops just outside the circle, not quite wanting to risk stepping over them until someone more knowledgeable could tell her it would be safe. She looks towards the unconscious woman, concerned.
Heal: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
Wasn't sure which was more appropriate to roll - looking for obvious signs of injury/to see if she's okay.
Helikon |
The gnome speaks up."Hello, please help me! I am Koth'Vaul and I was imprisoned here centuries ago by an organization known as the Thrallkeepers, who bound me here in the keep known as the Black Edifice to use his fey essence to power their magic.
My captors have all long since died, but the wards that bind me have kept me young. All I want now is to be free so that I can taste fresh air once again, die at last, and perhaps travel back in spirit to the First World from whence I came from!"
Any gnome trapped for more than a year should be vulnerable to Bleaching, an affliction that gnomes suffer overtime when they fail to partake in new experiences and sensations. Koth'Vaul appears to be perfectly healthy.
Koth'Vaul has linguistic roots in Abyssal and makes an unlikely name for a gnome
You also realize that Koth'Vaul is the nam e of a specific demon known as the Lying Horns, an outsider who tempts mortals into corruption.
The wards that surround Koth'Vaul are designed to imprison outsiders, which should not stop a simple gnome from walking across them.
The circle is specifically attuned to contain a creature strongly attuned to chaos, evil, or both.
