That's 28 on a Mysticism check. Nice.

Ziyad sees the darkness rolling and coalescing in the room, but see also sees it - the vestiges of magical energy at the edges, and what they portend. The artifact is somehow spawning small, temporary connections to an outer plane - the kind of connections spellcasters use to summon extraplanar entities. Ziyad can't identify the exact source from the magic alone, but her knowledge of Drow history leads her to believe the most likely candidate is the Abyss - home of demons and their spawn.

Able to move more freely now that the vines are no longer impeding his movement, Ranif will advance into the room. As he moves, he tries to longer provide any sort of cover to any of their opponents. Reaching a point to where he can fairly easily attack two opponents, as well as keep an eye on the motes of darkness, he returns to his offensive stance he had taken against the female Drow.

Ziyad quickly rips off a few electronic bundles the old mining assemblies, jamming them together in a technological bundle glued together with magic. She nimbly strides into the room and places the glowing, drill tipped bundle onto Ranif's weapon...

Supercharge weapon, would have happened before the attack. Adds 4d6 if Ranif is allowed to roll.

She also notes "Oh s##$! They're opening a quasi-dimensional rift! We gotta stop this thing!"

Ziyad runs into the room, just managing to slap her arcane kitbash onto the tip of Ranif's glaive before the dragonkin strides deeper into the room. As Ranif slices, his blade connects with the mystic in a shower of sparks.

As Ranif's blade connects, the mystic's image shimmers for a moment. A thin magical shield explodes, flashing back at Ranif in a streak of energy.

Ranif is caught unawares, and the blast hits him straight in the chest.

As Ziyad jogs across the room, the tiny demon lunges out but comes up short (that good ol' reach of 0).

The mystic reacts quickly, but Ziyad's arcane fire finds the gashes and punctures in her armor, burning her from the inside out. With a choking gurgle, she collapses facedown on the floor.

The dark artifact, swirling with malice, seems unaffected.

Oh, good question. The item in question is not an "Artifact" as per the rules; the spell identify would work as it would for any typical magic item.

We need a way to shut this down!" she shouts into it as divination magics start to, from her eyes, trace the auras surrounding the black vortex, and she hears astral voices whispering the secrets of the multiverse...

As Kragga heals some of Ranif's wounds, Ziyad delves deep into the essence of the magical stone embedded in the asteroid wall.

Ziyad:
Ziyad receives vague, misty images - thoughts, perhaps - of the magical device in days long past. Of shadowy figures wielding it in war and subterfuge. Of divine casters awakening and then abandoning it as it drew forward hordes of chaos from the Abyss. Of empires forming and falling.

You know everything. Effectively, the device can be awakened as a standard action and a mysticism check. Once awakened, it will summon hordes of progressively more powerful demons until it is shut down (with a Mysticism check that can be aided) or hit with an overwhelming amount of holy damage. Any attempts to manipulate the device require you to be within 5 feet.

As the fight continues, the dark device spews forth another trio of demons - this batch larger than the last.

Alfin's shot connects, and the drow doubles over at the impact, but stays standing. Ranif's swing also lands, punishing the demon for shifting a toe within a postcode of the dragonkin.

Seeing the deactivation of the device, the dour drow makes a run for it, trying to squeeze free of this unfortunate predicament. Captain Ross takes the opportunity to slash at the retreating drow with her sword, catching him in the neck. The guard stumbles to the ground and does not get up.
