Riggs Parrett |
"Well, that didn't work at all. Any other ideas? Even if we bought lock picks, I certainly couldn't figure out a way to use them. Are there any other keys we have found? Maybe that damned raven could help us out..."
Barral de Gauzignan |
"So it looks like we force them open?"
Barral moves up with Lovec to help if and when he decides to start hacking ...
GM Tyranius |
Looks like a few of you have weapons that if you were to do max damage would do over 10 damage
Spending several minutes hacking away at the chests with a spear and greatsword Jaren and Lovec are able to open all seven of the chests.
The chests contained an assortment of copper, silver, gold and platinum pieces. Inside the seventh chest is also a vase containing 30 gems.
- 18,500 copper pieces (185 gp converted)
- 4000 silver pieces (400 gp converted)
- 115 gold pieces
- 14 Platinum pieces (140 gp converted)
- Vase and Gems (800 gp)
328 gp each
Riggs Parrett |
"Now that's more like it! When we head back to town, we can supply properly. I can get some holy water, and alchemist's fire. Maybe we can pool some gold and buy a curative wand, too!"
Lovec |
"This is all well and good, but we still haven't figured out why this tower collapsed. I say we hide the loot here, and collect it on our way back. I have a feeling we might find some answers down this tunnel."
Lovec heads towards the opening in the north wall.
GM Tyranius |
The tunnel contains a pair of low barricades made of timbers and rocks partially block the passageway which opens into a larger cave beyond.
GM Tyranius |
Takes a climb check to climb over unless you have another method.
Riggs Parrett |
Riggs is waiting for one of the more sturdy characters to climb ahead. Once they do, he will follow.
Is this check allowable to take 10 on? If not... .
Climb 1d20 ⇒ 18
Barral de Gauzignan |
Barral will try to climb over the barricade ...
Climb: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (15) - 3 = 12
Jaren Morgenstern |
Jaren tosses his spear over the barricade, sighs, and starts climbing.
Climb: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
And after that failure, he just takes 10 for a 13. Hopefully that's enough.
GM Tyranius |
Yes Take 10 is fine
Riggs begins to climb over the makeshift barricade when a small pile of the barricade shifts. Several broken stalactites swing down like a pendulum at Riggs.
Trap vs Riggs AC 12: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
The stalactites swing down and crash into Riggs' head nearly impaling him on the barricade.
The rest clamor over the barricade with little effort once the trap is set off to see that Riggs is alright.
The large cave beyond the barricade seems to have been scratched from hard packed earth, and it's ceiling is only five feet high. Several tons of debris fill the western portion of the cave. What appears to be the body of a man lies half buried under the rubble near the north end of the cave.
The man crushed under the earth and stone looks to be a white haired balding man clattered in now tattered finery.

Riggs Parrett |
Riggs didn't even have time to yell before the stalactites were upon him. He ended up quite the worse for wear, dazed at the experience. "First call on a healing potion, if we find one," he tries to joke.
Barral de Gauzignan |
"No need to wait."
Barral grins at Riggs and hands him one of his cure light wounds potions ...
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
GM Tyranius |
The only item of note that you are able to find on the battered man is a keyring.
Obtained wizard's keyring- *Queue Final Fantasy fanfare*
Though Lovec did indeed find the wizard he sought the man's body is crushed and he is indeed dead.
Nearby nearly hidden by the rubble are a pair of kobold bodies each grasping a spade.
The tunnel leading north seems to branch off in two directions to the north and to the west.
Jaren Morgenstern |
Jaren hefts his spear.
Anyone else starting to get the feeling that Kobolds were responsible for this? I mean, we're finding more and more signs of them as we go deeper...
Lovec |
"They must have been after something. Maybe they were after the wizards coin? Either way, we should be careful. They can be viscous little buggers."
Once the group is done searching the area, he will take the lead, heading down the western tunnel.
"I think this way leads back under the tower. We might be able to find the site of the initial collapse down here."
GM Tyranius |
Continuing down the tunnel Lovec passes a small hole in the ground that drops off to a narrow 4 foot wide tunnel that evenyually emerges onto a ledge overlooking the flooded quarry. beyond the scope of the adventure
Continuing west a few small piles of furs laid out like nests are heaped near the walls of the small cave.
Looking straight back at you are three kobolds. One is weilding a bow who seems to be speaking with the others in a strange guttural language.
Barral: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Jaren: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

Its hard to know how far away Sesserak is (and whether I can hit him while enlarged) so I'll try and hit him if I can, if not, I'll swipe at the nearest mook Kobold.
Jasmine speeds around the corner, Greatsword out and ready. Spotting the kobolds and a leader of sorts, she lashes out as best as she can.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (2, 5) + 4 = 11
GM Tyranius |
Druids are not proficient with greatswords unless you have a feat or something I am missing. If not you will just have a -4 penalty added on.
Sessarak is the red Kobold.
Speeding around the corner Jasmine slashes her greatsword at the nearest kobold. The reptile shrieks as it ducks underneath her blade.
Sessarak fires an arrow at Jasmine.
Shortbow vs Jasmine AC 14: 1d20 + 4 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 1 - 1 = 8
The arrow nearly strikes the Kobold as it strikes the stone wall splintering into small kindling.
The two kobolds descend on Jasmine with sharp spears.
Green spear vs Jasmine AC 14: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Blue spear vs Jasmine AC 14: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Jasmine easily dodges out of the way of both spears as the kobolds get tangled up.

Barral moves up to attack blue with his great sword ...
greatsword: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19 for Slashing: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (5, 6) + 3 = 14
Jasmine Almandine |
Half Elf race trait: Ancestral Arms. Its why I don't have skill focus as a bonus feat, because its replaced with Martial Weapon Proficiency. Is this acceptable to everyone or did I miss something during character creation.
Lovec |
Lovec steps up and takes a swing at the blue kobold.
Lucerne Hammer: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Damage: 1d12 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
GM Tyranius |
The kobold seems surprised that Lovec understood it. Even more surprised as Lovec smashes it's allies head in with his hammer as Barral finishes cutting the creature down.
Riggs waits for everyone to clear the room so that he can better assess the situation within.

Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
GM Tyranius |
Jaren squeezes past the occupied Kobold as he makes it into the room and stabs his longspear at the archer.
The longspear stabs into the Kobolds hip with the crunch of cracked bone.
Jasmine swings her greatsword once again but the quarters prove to be too tight and she is finding it hard to maneuver.
Sessarak steps back and fires an arrow at Jaren in return for his longspear tip.
Shortbow vs Jaren AC 16: 1d20 + 8 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (10) + 8 + 1 - 1 = 18
Damage: 1d4 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 1 + 2 = 5
The arrow slams into Jaren's chest with a sickening thud.
The green kobold stabs it's spear at Jasmine
Spear vs Jasmine AC 14: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16
Damage: 1d6 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1
The tip of the spear is just enough to penetrate Jasmine's armor asit nicks her flesh underneath it.

Barral steps 5 ft forward to continue his attack ...
Greatsword: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20 for Slashing: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (6, 5) + 3 = 14
GM Tyranius |
Lovec slams his hammer into the kobold archer once again as he breaks the creatures tiny leg.
Stepping forward Barral finishes off the green kobold with a single blow from his greatsword. he sends a swathe of blood brightly against the stoney wall.
Jasmine enlarges stepping out from the entrance and ends this battle with a swift stroke from her greatsword at the leader.
Redirected your attack Jasmine as Barral just killed your target and a 5 foot step is all you needed for the archer.

Boom! Go ahead and level up to Level 2!
Lovec |
Lovec takes a look around the cave for any clue to what the kobolds were doing here.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Lovec is leveled up and ready to go whenever the rest of the group is ready.
GM Tyranius |
Sounds good I will push forward tomorrow to give the day to level. There is usually a little RP in between anyways.
Barral de Gauzignan |
Barral is leveled and ready to go.
GM Tyranius |
Searching the bodies you find
- Potion of CMW (3)
- Mwk Studded Leather
- Mwk Shortbow
- 225 gp (45 gp each)
Leaving the tower's lower levels you seek out and report to the Baroness. She looks eager at your return. What did you find in the tower? Why did it collapse? Did that damned wizard cause this?
Riggs Parrett |
"It looks like the tower might have fallen because of some kobolds. We found a couple of their bodies covered in rubble. We also found something else...the wizard had been caught in the rubble, too. I'm sorry to report, but he's dead. I wish I had better news."
I am leveled as well. Did anyone take a rank or two in Disable Device? We probay need to do that. Also, does anyone else want to kick in so that we could buy the party a wand of CLW? I think thats our most pressing need now. 750 gold divided by four.
Barral de Gauzignan |
Barral is a bit short for a Wand ... the 95 gp he still have can go toward it though.
Lovec |
Unless I'm counting wrong, we all just picked up 373 gp apiece, so 750/5 is 150 gp apiece for the wand. Do we have anyone who can use it reliably, though?
"As he said, it looks like kobolds were trying to tunnel into the tower, but I'm not sure they intended it to collapse. They thought they were going to be in trouble when they returned to their lair, so it sounds like they had some specific purpose. What that is, we couldn't say."
