Kafir climbs up into the tree to find a rude platform strewn with rotting carrion. Against the trunk, a body slumps. It has bat-like wings and a long tongue hanging out its mouth.

Knowledge (religion): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25 (+13 to identify members of religious faiths or religious paraphernalia.)
"A berbalang," Kafir grunts. He goes on to explain, "an undead creature that is known to be able to separate it consciousness from its body. So it's consciousness is probably floating around somewhere."
Does Kafir know if killing the body will also kill the consciousness? If so, he will chop the thing's head off before it can do anything.
GM Tektite |
Kafir begins moving toward the berbalang, but it suddenly opens its eyes and begins moving!

After finding nothing on the platform, nor the undead, the party makes a campsite and rests for the evening. The night is filled with many strange noises, but the party is left unmolested.
The morning dawns and you see that the is a "y" in the trail just a bit further north. One leg head north, while the other heads northwest.
I added an overview map to the top.

@GM: We need permission for the overview map.

Note: If anything attacks a confused creature, the confused automatically attack whatever swung at it last. Not that if it was 15 away from death that it wouldn't die next round anyways, but the goal of "fail to attempt to grapple halfling" was still accomplished. Once the party has healed, you continue through the forest. The path ends, so you blaze your way, northwest, through the dense growth. After a few hundred yards, you see an amazing sight, an impressive elk darts through the forest, lighting small fires along the way with its flaming hooves. A small, but increasing fire is left in its wake.
Algonso Gentky |
"A forest of pyre is of ill omen indeed! Do we flee or contest the fire?!?"
