    The four of you have adventured together for the last few years and have gained a fair amount of renown around Cassomir, Taldor and the surrounding areas....

    While relaxing at a local tavern in Cassomir, in between expeditions, an invitation brings summons to The Sword Point, a pricey inn in the Old Cassomir district. Waiting there are two older humans: a caramel-skinned man with strong hands and a pale, thin woman with neatly piled platinum hair. After a long, assessing stare, the elderly woman speaks.

    “We are grateful that you came. This is my husband and long-time comrade, Verus Crandel—we called him “Igneous” in our day—and I am Branda Tulles. The two of us were once adventurers like you, and we, along with a few of our friends, have had more than our share of excitement in our youth.”

    She looks to her companion, who sits up to take a sip of ale, wiping his gray mustache with an embroidered cloth. He says in a weathered voice, “Each year about this time, the remaining four of us gather together in this city to remember our fallen friend, Rhoma Bissel, and to lend our experience to a cause worth fighting for. We can still face bullies and brigands and such, but my hammer gets heavier every time I lift it." He sighs and takes another drink before continuing.

    "I’ve meant for each of our last three ventures to be the end, but Branda and I still travel here every year to meet up with Dern Fosimuth and Taergan Flinn and to share a few stories with younger travelers like yourselves.” He pauses for a long second before he continues. Worry hangs heavy in the air as he clears his throat. “Our two friends have not made their appearance yet this year. We’ve learned that one, Dern Fosimuth, is laid up in a place called Mother’s Care Home for Invalids, in nearby Hope’s Hollow. The other one is more curious—Taergan Flinn is a half-elf, so he’s a bit more active and nimble than the rest of us. And he never really took to retirement, so this gathering started as his idea. It worries us that he hasn’t shown, especially as we’ve made our share of enemies over the years. We think it’s best we stay here, should Taergan arrive, but ask that you would check his home for us just in case—and bring word back of Dern, as well.”

    Branda Tulles takes over from there. “We’ve talked about mentoring a few younger pioneers, maybe even handing down a few secrets we never quite explored. We’d be willing to lend you our company and more if you’d be good enough to check on our two friends. If they need help, we’d rather someone younger and up to a challenge discover them. Once we know they’re safe, we’ll look in on them ourselves.”

    A younger man sits at the table listening with the couple; his white robes are of a Garundi fashion and are trimmed with gold, the colors that signify his membership in the Rahadoumi Pure Legion. As he sits he offers a hand to each of them, introducing himself, "Good skies, my name is Kafir, an emissary of the Pure Legion. It is an honor to meet such veteran adventurers."

    Kafir rubs the stubble on his cheeks as he listens to the couple give their tale. "So we need to look in on Taergan Flinn and make sure he's ok? This sounds easy enough. What should we do if the investigation turns sour in one way or another? And what more can you tell us about your companion? It may help to locate him if we know him more fully."

    Roger is sharing a meal with his bestest buddy in the whole world, Roo. The pair are sharing a plate of cheese and crackers when the two retired adventurers comes up to the party. "Sounds like a great adventure! We've been kinda bored lately!" Roger says looking at his marsupial friend who is ignoring the conversation and focusing on his meal. They are the most unlikely pair. Roger stands about three and a half feet tall like much of his kin, though he is usually clad in armor and prefers to settle things with his fists rather than words. Roo is well, a kangaroo. As the halfling would tell it he found the Roo as a joey years ago after a circus had left the town he was staying in. They've been best friends ever since.

    At a meager 5' 4", an olive-skinned man wearing a wooden mask (with designs to apply a new faceplate in the future) listens to the elders' tale. Preempted to asking the obvious questions, he listens for answers.

    He wears the aforementioned mask at all times and is covered by a set of travelers robes. He carries no weapons, but takes no pains to hide his chain shirt underneath the robes.

    A tall man is standing not far from his companions, a strange breeze blowing about him despite the fact that everyone's inside. His blue skin has silver hues, like the color of clouds after the rain. The sylph - for it is an elemental-kin indeed - is garbed in a silvery mail shirt, with a strange belt around the waist. All sorts of vials and flasks hang on to the leathery attire, some containing what look like disquieting whiffs of somber smoke.

    Despite his alien appearance, he bows to the two former adventurers with the utmost respect. His voice is soft and blowing like the wind. "I am Akaash. Most honored to make your acquaintance. Though this task doesn't sound thrilling, it is an important one nonetheless, for companions and friends are what is most precious in this world."


    The retired adventurers promise to reward each party member, upon safe delivery of Flinn, with coin and treasures from their personal stores. The veterans also offer their services as mentors or contacts for as long as they are able. The pair offers a description of Flinn’s townhouse in northern Threegates. They also give brief directions to Hope’s Hollow, an hour’s ride along the eastern road through the Blackwood Swamp. As the party leaves, there’s a forlorn look in the couple’s eyes—seeing younger adventurers head off reminds them of their youth....

    Following the given directions, the party passes through Threegates toward the townhouse. Located on the northeast side of Cassomir, Taergan Flinn’s townhouse appears worthy of a lifelong adventurer. Large, clear windows overlook manicured bushes, presenting a posh face to the front drive. A small building holding servants’ quarters sits on the north side of the property. The townhouse’s second floor is constructed of wood, and has many windows. The building’s southern wing appears to house a laboratory of some kind. The house is as quiet as the neighborhood surrounding it.

    "There at last." Aakash sighs. "I actually enjoy journeys, but that one was a bore. A gnome could have become bleached by know, you know? Anyway, let's check this out. Come."

    The sylph looks around, hoping for any life sign, then shakes his head and moves towards the southern wing, highly interested in what he's seeing through the windows.

    "Most interesting. Shall we knock?"

    Kafir stays mounted on his camel Shaytan for the duration of the journey, refusing to dismount until he has made a circuit of the yard from camelback to check for any signs that might be found outside. After checking the perimeter, Kafir dismounts and ties Shaytan up to join Akaash. "It's worth a try. Go for it." He cautiously puts his hand on the hilt of his khopesh just in case.

    "You have too much fear, Mr. Kafir. Have some faith in humanity, if nothing else." Algonso flatly notes as he approaches the door. Once there, he will knock.

    He'd introduce himself to the elderly folks earlier and assure them the best, but he wasn't going to interrupt their block of text. Algy is only really going to be much of a jerk to the guy who hates all faith, do ho ho.

    Kafir simply ignores the preaching of Algonso and waits for someone to answer the door. If no one answers, he will open it if nothing more than to break the awkward silence.


    Kafir makes a circuit around the townhouse, seeing a privy and what is likely a servant's quarters.

    Knocking on the door, there is no answer, though it appears the door is unlocked.

    The Pure Legionnaire leads the way inside.


    Kafir opens the door to a well-appointed foyer. Placed around the room are pieces of expensinve furniture. There are painted doors leading to the north, west, south, and of course the front door in the last side of the room.

    Kafir presses onwards to the north door. "There was noise upstairs, right? Has to be stairs around here somewhere."

    Kafir leads the way north into the nest room. This room has a large bay window facing east, and is ideal for eating breakfast or reading in the sun during cold weather. A thin wooden panel wall separates this room from another to the east. The wall folds into a nook in the west wall. A door leads to a patio outside, where a small table sits, decorated with several rare, colorful flowers.

    "Start looking around for anything useful," Kafir commands, "I'll find the damn stairs." Kafir moves to the next room.


    Moving east, Kafir folds the wall back and reveals a museum of sorts. A tasteful menagerie of Flinn’s travels and victories packs this large room. Paintings and memorabilia fill the perimeter, and a large glass display case with a prominent lock on its front lies in the room’s center. Inside the case rest several rolled maps, a pair of worn leather journals, and a shining iron chalice. A fine painting of Flinn and his four adventuring friends hangs on the eastern wall, behind which a wooden staircase rises to the second floor.

    Akaash moves in as soon as Kafir made sure it's safe, scanning the room for clues of Finn's whereabouts.

    Looking around the room, you see alchemical discoveries, letters from other adventurers, a few paintings, and several archaeological artifacts adorn the room. The painting of all five members of the Golden Watch (including the deceased wizard Rhoma Bissel), shows them each holding a small fragment of a large golden watch. It’s clear from the painting that Flinn appears much younger than the rest of his friends.

    As Kafir starts heading for the stairs, he turns to acknowledge Algonso's comment. "True," he looks around at everyone else in the room, "Anyone want to go upstairs with me?" Even if Algonso volunteers, Kafir just says, "Anyone?"

    After a moment he starts lumbering up the stairs.

    "We'll go!" The pair will hop along following Kafir.


    Akaash studies the many note and journal entries. Most pertain to creating alchemical items at a faster pace and the use of new or obscure reagents.

    As Algonso cautions the party, Kafir and Roger! head up the stairs. The stairs open to a bookshelf-lined hallway punctuated by tall windows. Books on advanced mathematics, magical theory, history, anthropology, and alchemy fill the shelves, along with several volumes of the Pathfinder Chronicles—including volumes 6 and 36. Two closed bedroom doors rest along the wall opposite the windows.

    The lawfirm of Kafir and Roger move to the bedroom doors together.


    Akaash begins to examine the books and is impressed to find they cover a wide variety of subject, including some rare folios on alchemy, herbalism, and minerals.

    Roger and Kafir open the door to the nearest bedroom and peer inside. The room looks to be Flinn's bedroom. The master bedroom has been turned over roughly. Signs of a struggle include a broken window in the south side of the eastern wall, a displaced mattress, a broken chair, and a spatter of dried blood on the floor. On the south wall, a tall mirror appears to hang just off kilter. The same muffled thumping is louder here than elsewhere in the house.

    Looking around, Roger! notices that a mirror on the east wall stands slightly askew, revealing a secret door behind. He also notices that the desk drawer is locked.
