Reesa |
Reesa detects magic on the room, looking for any trinkets that might have escaped notice over the years.
GM Tektite |
Kidd manages to wipes of the gore and feels none the worse from the filth shower.
Reesa finds that the lump of flesh the undead were feasting on radiates a strong aura of necromancy.
Looking around, you note an opening in the south part of the western wall, and a door in the northern part of the western wall.
Kiddrik Brown |
Kiddrik gives an instinctive shudder. "That was disgusting."
He takes a few moments to scribble some notes about the encounter—as well as a description of their current room, including the lump of flesh—into his journal. As he does so, he looks for the orb or anything else of interest.

Reesa points out the necromantic flesh to the others. "What is that stuff? Looks like strong magic, but I don't know if I want to touch it. If someone else does, have at it."
Joesef Deadwillow |
Touch that? Joesef looks at the disgusting flesh. Is that a dare or something? Eww. Joesef will instead examine the door. take 10 on Preception

Finding nothing helpful, Kiddrik moves towards the door. While waiting for the team to move on, he gags and grunts as he does his best to get undead bits and pieces off his morningstar and clothes.
Ready to move on when you guys are.
GM Tektite |
Moving up to the northern door, the party enters a large chamber. This large chamber has a relatively low ceiling. The far southwest wall is set at an angle, and against the center of the wall sits a heap of bones and skulls resembling a large makeshift throne. To the left of the throne sits an oak and brass sea chest, carved with images of sea serpents chasing their own tails. Sitting upon the throne in an undead humanoind, while two festrogs prostrates themselves in front of it. The creature looks up as the party enters, then nods, as if waiting for something. "Welcome to my humble abode." The creature says.
Stag the Bold Strider |
Stag boldly strides forward. "Hello. My name is Stag! No relation."
"We are looking for something... perhaps you have heard of it..." the man nudges the frog with his foot.
Joesef Deadwillow |
Joe sees the undead and whispers to the others. Umm, guys? Should we be talking to it? You might encourage it to do somethin' we might not want for it to do. Who, or what, is it anyway? After a pause Joe adds, I've been seeing to many of these undead things lately.
Kiddrik Brown |
Does Kiddrik know what kind of undead we’re talking to?
Know: religion: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Kiddrik steps into the room, and is—once again—shocked into silence for nearly ten full seconds. Finally recovering, he steps forward.
”My friends are right, but that’s not the whole of it. We’re from a group that specializes in finding amazing and unique things. This place … your home …” he makes a sweeping gesture that encompasses the room as well as what’s beyond, ” … is … well … it’s like nothing I’ve ever seen before. Are you the lord of all of it? I can’t begin to tell you how jealous many of my companions will be that I was the one that had the opportunity to speak to you.” He pauses, remembering his manners. His tone is 100% genuine. ”I’m Kiddrik Brown, and I’m so incredibly honored to meet you. Can I get the honor of knowing your name? I want to make sure my reports are as full as possible.”

"I'm afraid we were told we had to bring the orb back as part of our mission. I don't suppose you could let us have it, could you? We'd get out of here and leave you alone," Reesa offers helpfully, doubting she had any chance of success in her bargaining.
Joesef Deadwillow |
I didn't realize there were so many different types of undead. Kinda like people. Joesef readies himself, feeling that a fight is going to be unavoidable.
Kiddrik Brown |
Kidd tries to stall. "Wait ... so do you know where the orb is? Maybe we can help each other out." He steps next to Stag, whispering, "We're unlikely to get out without violence."

The ghast sits back in his throne and thinks for a moment before looking at the party and smiling. "You impress me. I would be willing to give you 24 hours to explore the area....and future expeditions may explore...if proper tribute is paid." He licks his rotting lips and rubs his hands together. "Alas, I do not know the location of the orb. I can tell you that there is a secret door just to south of the door leading to this room."
Reesa |
Reesa bows politely to the powerful undead. "24 hours should be plenty of time. We will make sure if any of our group need to explore here again, they bring tribute for your cooperation."
Along with holy water and magic weapons!
Quint Zorn |
.... of course it would be. Well we should hurry as we are on a time limit.
Quint looks over to the undead creature. Would you have a good place for us to start looking so that we are out of here faster?
Joesef Deadwillow |
Oh! Well, a simple trip to the butcher should be able to take care of that request. The rogue-fighter manages a meek smile as he makes his comment. Yeah, a good place to start would be helpful.
GM Tektite |
Following the ghasts orders, the party seeks out and finds the secret door. Beyond the secret door is a narrow set of steep stairs descending into darkness. After several dozen feet, the stairs end in a solid stone door carved to resemble an immense scowling face. The door is locked, and no amount of time would allow anyone to open it. Beyond the scope of this scenario.
Returning to the collapsed passage, the party spends some time excavating it to reveal a small chamber that reeks of filth and rotten meat. A heap of coins and other valuables lies piled in the middle of the room. The largest item in the pile is a gem-studded copper sphere. Though completely motionless, the light on the sphere seems to flicker and fade like a desert mirage. Those is front also see a ghoul who appears to have been waiting. It moves to attack!

Searching the room, you find the Orb of Stars amid piles of gold, silver, and copper coins. You also find a horn of fog in the shape of a curling linnorm.
Exiting the room, you find the ghast and his two festrog servants waiting for you. "I'll be taking that orb, as I am the rightful owner." He says loudly.
Reesa |
"I should've known we couldn't trust the undead!". Reesa prepares a spell in case the undead comes closer.
Kiddrik Brown |
KIddrik recovers from his stupefied state just in time to run back into the ghast behind him.
”Wait,” Kidd counters, ”we had a deal. You still owe us nearly twenty-four hours of time!” Realizing the ghast never actually agreed to give them the orb, he scrambles for diplomatic angles. ”And the meats! Our Society has resources to get you Avistan’s most rare and exotic meats. More than Avistan … all of Golarion! You kill us now, and the best you get is a reputation for killing whatever comes in here. People outside won't let that stand. However, you let us leave with the orb and you can live in your domain with a constant supply of fine dining. Just imagine the meals!”
