GM Rednal |
Both of Iyashi's attacks of opportunity struck home, and the enchanted power of the mind blade seemed more effective than a fully physical attack had been, cutting deeply into the bodies of the creatures. Alamar's attacks were likewise successful, as was the single one Brass managed to make. All in all, an impressive showing of talent and skill. Unfortunately, none of the gargoyles had been destroyed quite yet...
Round 2 actions are still needed from Iyashi - in most cases, you should make those in the same post you make attacks of opportunity. This helps keep things moving. The actions for this round from Alamar and Brass haven't been resolved yet.
Iyashi Kei |
Gotcha, boss. I didn't want to post my Round 2 stuff until Alamar got to take his turn, but I forgot that you count people who come after enemies in the initiative as starting on Round 2.
Round 2
Kei shifts his gaze between the pair of gargoyles flanking him, before stabbing out with his mind blade. Almost instantaneously after the blade of mental force bit into the gargolye's hide, the tengu disappears in a puff of purple smoke, only to appear again a number of yards away. "Caw!" he cries arrogantly at the flying enemies, though the worry in his eyes is clear.
Kei uses Fading Strike on one of the gargoyles and then teleports 15 ft. away (standard action).

The shot from Brass' rifle did nothing at all to the gargoyle she targeted, bouncing off of its hide. The cannon did somewhat more damage, though it too was less effective than it could have been. Alamar, acting at near the same time, managed to destroy one of the three gargoyles attacking him, and Iyashi finished off a second. That was two down, and six left to go. The remaining one going after Iyashi instead stepped around to those assaulting brass, even as the others stepped into a ring around her.

Party's up!

Round 3
Kei squawks worriedly as the gargoyles surround Brass, and decides courage is the better part of valor. He rushes towards his beleaguered companion, bringing his mind blade around in a mighty arcing strike. "No grab! Rude!"
Kei moves to attack one of the Gargoyles targeting Brass (move action) and attacks one of them (standard action).

Brass Avasa |
No, but I don't need to. Both the cannon and gun turret are suit mounted, and don't require any hands. And the AOO was before I got grabbed.
GM Rednal |
Another gargoyle scattered, and green gems bounced out from its eye sockets as Iyashi finished his attack and managed to destroy one of the gargoyles helping to pin Brass. Alamar, likewise, was able to break apart one of the creatures assaulting him, while Brass' hammer destroyed another.
The turret and the manople? Not so helpful. They didn't seem to be doing anything to the rocky creatures. Three gargoyles were left, one by Alamar and two by Brass, and the loss of their companions didn't even seem like it had fazed them. However, they did seem to recognize that grappling would be difficult, and switched to an all-out assault instead, biting and clawing and goring for all they were worth.

Brass Avasa |
Brass grunted at the damage. The armour protected her against most things, but the two lucky blows did some damage. With two of the creatures so close, she couldn't do much but hit them, however.
But she could hit them a lot. Brass activated one of her suit's built in functions, the heavy clockwork armour and pistons suddenly clicking up a gear. The Mobius core on the armour's front, full of strange and mysterious energies, grew brighter.

Round 4
Distressed at the attacks that had landed on Brass, Kei swings his weapon again, even pecking at the gargoyles, hoping to prevent them from harming the woman further. "Sleep again!" the exorcist says through a tightly closed beak.

GM Rednal |
Green gems littered the ground by now, two falling from each gargoyle, as the last of them was slain.
3200 XP.
No more of the gargoyles on the roof seemed inclined towards movement - assuming they could - which left the way to the front doors cleared. Aside from the rubble and the treasure on the ground, of course.
The gargoyles have dropped 16 green gems, each worth 500 GP.
Iyashi Kei |
Kei settles down, his mind blade fading as the gargoyles stop moving. "This why check everything!" he says, his gaze worried as the exorcist's eyes continue to dart around for signs of danger. Deciding the area was safe for the moment, the tengu pads over to Brass and begins patting the woman's armor. "Safe? Unharmed?" he queries while tilting his head to the side. Suddenly, however, Kei notices the green gems glinting in the light, and his attention is immediately drawn to them. Cawing excitedly, he begins to pick up and inspect each gem.
Brass Avasa |
"Iyashi's abilities took the damage for me." She moved the armour, examining the damage inflicted by the Gargoyle's claws. Brass was quite annoyed that they'd even managed to get past the suit. "I'm fine. Just surprised. Two lucky hits is more than I'm used to." With a grunt she switched the cannon back to it's stored mode, and moved over the door. Kneeling with a clockwork click, she examined the door for traps.
Trap Sensing Perception: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (17) + 16 = 33
Iyashi Kei |
Kei looks back at Brass over his shoulder, squawking and nodding. "Is good!" he exclaims, before his attention is once more pulled to the shiny green gems that he is collecting in a taloned hand.
GM Rednal |
The ornate iron doors don't seem to be trapped, but they are locked - you'll need to pick them to get inside, and the lock itself is quite impressive. It's unlikely that you're going to open them on your first try - but given the lack of danger now that the gargoyles are gone, you could certainly take a few minutes (i.e. Take 20) to do the job right.
Brass and Iyashi, please organize your skills alphabetically - they're MUCH easier to search that way. Also, I'll be busy Friday through Sunday, and won't be posting then.
Iyashi Kei |
Kei finishes collecting all the gems and stuffs them into his satchel, nodding deeply. "Caw! Share later!" he says to the others, before moving to join Alamar and Brass.
Brass Avasa |
Looking at the lock, Brass first tried the key they'd found. It seemed a simple answer to such a dangerous dungeon, but people did manage to get in fairly regularly.
After making sure it didn't fit, Brass pulled out her tools and set to work making the lock sit up and beg.
Taking 20 means the that it would be 32 to open the door
Iyashi Kei |
Kei squawks as Brass attempts to open the door to the mausoleum. "Is working?" he asks of the woman, looking over her shoulder with curiosity shining in his eyes.
GM Rednal |
The door clicks open as Brass tries the key you found, allowing you to enter the building.
The mausoleum itself is filled with damp, musty air. Dust covers most of this barren room of solid stone. Several broken and rusted weapons lie on the floor along with the butt-ends of several used torches. The room’s sole feature is a large stone sarcophagus, on top of which stand two brass candelabras, each holding a black candle.
Brass Avasa |
"Well, this isn't exactly what I was hoping for." Brass rose to her feet with a mechanical whirl. "I was kind of hoping for some kind of passage down into the tunnels below, not another dead guy. I see enough of those as it is."
Still, she recalled the words of warning. Curse be the man who moves my bones. She eyed the sarcophagus warily. "Can either of you gentleman check for magical auras while I hunt for traps?"
She then moved over the sarcophagus and examined it. There was always a chance that it hid the entrance. It was also possible it contained an undead monstrosity, a brutal death trap or was, infact, a large mimic that would try to eat her. Only one way to find out.
Trap Perception: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (1) + 16 = 17
Oh well, it was nice knowing you guys
Iyashi Kei |
"Caw! Cannot," the tengu says dispiritedly. He looks around, focusing his mind to search for powers similar to his own.
Kei uses Detect Psionics (standard action).
Alamar X |
Alamar is unconvinced by the dust and begins searching the room for some sort of hidden entrance to the depths.
Perception 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (12) + 14 = 26
GM Rednal |
There don't seem to be any traps on the sarcophagus itself, though it would take quite a bit of effort (Strength DC 23) to shove open the lid, given how heavy it is. Meanwhile, Alamar is able to note an indentation in the ceiling that matches that of the stone sarcophagus, as well as a stone slab that's slightly out of place near the southern wall. There doesn't seem to be a trap there, either, but this well-concealed door needs to be pulled upwards (Strength DC 22) to open.
The glowing candles are definitely magical - some kind of powerful light spell is keeping them permanently lit, although the light itself is just a bit sinister in its glow.
Meanwhile, as you look around, the key you used to enter the room vanishes.
Alamar X |
Alamar points first to the ceiling and then to the southern wall.
"Look at the ceiling, it appears that the sarcophagus must raise somehow. Also, there is a hidden door here in the south wall."
Iyashi Kei |
Strength check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Kei blinks, looking at the ceiling and wall where Alamar pointed them out. "Eyes, good. Impressed!" the tengu responds, before padding over to the wall. He makes a limp-armed attempt at opening the door, but the exorcist is clearly not built for this kind of work. "Heavy!"
Brass Avasa |
Brass glanced over at the door. It looked difficult and heavy to move. But what was the point in wearing a huge suit of mechanized clockwork armour if you could force open the occasional door?
Squating, Brass attempted to get a good hold of the stone. For a moment she considered Redlining the suit. Her strength would receive a huge boost, but it would also shut down most of the suit's abilities for the next hour once it was done. For now she decided against it, and simply used her own muscles plus the suit's boost to move the door.
Strength Check: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
With a grunt and whirl of cogs slipping into lower gear, the door ground upwards under the power of Brass. "It's not too bad if you can get a grip," she commented cheekily.
Iyashi Kei |
Kei caws frustratedly, carefully peeking into the room now that Brass has opened the door. His midnight-colored eyes search the room for anything out of the ordinary... though who knows what kinds of things you can find in a dark, damp mausoleum above the most deadly place in the land?
Perception: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (4) + 21 = 25
GM Rednal |
With a great heave, Brass managed to open the passageway, and Iyashi's keen eyes don't spot anything out of the ordinary.
This is a circular shaft descending into the darkness below. The smell of death radiates from the pit as it descends down into oblivion. The circular shaft descends 30 ft. below the floor of the mausoleum above to a dirt-floored hallway. There are some blood stains and smears on the walls of the hallway, which are made of roughly worked stone, including one rather recent large hand smear of blood on the north wall. The passage leads east and comes to a dead end some 100 ft. later. At the end of the passage is an obvious ten-foot deep 5 ft. by 5 ft. pit. There is a rope pegged into the wall that descends into the pit. At the bottom of the pit is a poorly hidden man-sized secret door. The door begins 3 ft. off the ground from the floor of the pit and opens by pulling up and out on a small knob on the bottom of the door.
This may well be the true entrance to the dungeon and whatever foul powers lurk within... literally foul, if the stink from up ahead is anything to go by.
Make a Fortitude save as you advance. Also, the map of the Ground Floor has been updated.
Brass Avasa |
Fortitude: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
Looking at the not so hidden in amusement, Brass considered the area. Blood was everywhere and the place seemed designed to lure in unwary. With a sigh, she knelt to examine the door for traps before entering it. It only seemed wise.

The air here stinks - literally. You've managed to overcome it for now, but this isn't the kind of place anyone wants to stay for too long. You don't spot any traps as you move forward, either, and the halls eventually open up a bit. There seems to be a room straight ahead, but you could also branch off to the left, where there seems to be another chamber.
New map.
Iyashi Kei |
Kei sticks behind the other two as the group carefully moves forwards. He continues to search the area for psionic energies, hoping it may provide at least some benefit.
Brass Avasa |
Brass decided to head for the room ahead, ignoring the left passageway for now. However, she had no interest in being swarmed by enemies. Now they seemed to be in regular passageways, she decided to deploy an additional automata to add some extra killing power. Selecting one set of plans, she activated the strange, eldritch energies she had been blessed with, and the pieces of brass and steel swirled into the correct configuration. Within second a small machine with a vaguely feminine appearance and a longbow in it's hands appeared. A crossbow also hung on one shoulder.
"Lady Greye, flanking please." The small machine moved into place, it's ranged weaponry ready.
Brass Avasa |
Brass nods, and moves over to investigate.
Trap Finder Perception: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (8) + 16 = 24
GM Rednal |
It's a good thing you bothered to look - part of the way forward, you see a patch of strange green substance on the ceiling of the cavern, and walking under it probably wouldn't be the smartest thing you could do. Fortunately, you can almost certainly get rid of it if you can figure out the right technique...
Iyashi Kei |
Kei cocks his head at the green mass hanging from the ceiling, forming his weapon as sort of an unconscious reaction. "What's that?" he questions his companions, taking a step away.
