GM..Kashka |
Spyridon thinks it is a poor attempt at crafting an undead. Definately a novice with no shot at success.
The blood is rancid and old... the spider parts however are fresh.
Spyridon Andronikos Joachim |
"Nothing else interesting, that I can see. Though, there is another symbol here - 'Four' as I recognize it from Royst's books. The Spire, on the other hand shows 'Two', and the spire upstairs, 'One'."
Stepping toward the door, tucking the scrolls away in his case, Spyridon watches the table closely.
"Nothing good occurred here. Amateur necromancy."
Robin L'il |
Robin picks up his bow, and grunts. "Let's get going. Guess we need to be ready for undead."
Vala Tinkersmith |
Vala gives the room a quick glance just to make sure everything looks handled before investigating the cage trap mechanism does it appear high quality - low quality - what kind of trap setter am I dealing with here? any salvageable parts? She then goes and does the same to the pit trap - attempting to disable it.
GM..Kashka |
The pit trap seems of good quality construction. There are no visible components... you assume thos are under the stone tiles that appear to give way under pressure. You think you can spike it in place to not easily give way. roll disable
GM..Kashka |
As Vala starts to tinker with the trap, her hand slips and causes her to put some weight on the tiles. They give way to reveal a 10ft deep spiked pit.
There appears no way to close the trap except from underneath where the "floor" tiles hang on hinges.
Robin L'il |
"Vala, need some help there?" Robin pulls a rope off his pack, and starts attaching his grappling hook to it. "Or should we try and see if there is a way around?"
Vala Tinkersmith |
"Hmph. Well. That went well." Vala says sarcastically as she stands up. "How about we take that wooden table from inside the room and place it over the pit - it looks big enough to cover the pit, and strong enough to stand on"
Agriver Rall |
Agriver nods at Vala and works with Spyridon to move the contents of the table to a safer location. Waving Robin over to grab one end of the table they hoist the table over to the pit and places it per her direction.
assuming your cool with that Jack
"Necromancy.... the goddess said there would be undead - I guess I was just hoping not quite as soon."
Glancing at Robin "We have made quite a racket, are you watching the perimeter? Lots of doors, and we have been... distracted"
Robin L'il |

I am always paying attention. Unlike certain people who may or may not have been captured by a very large cage dropping on top of them."
Agriver Rall |
"Fair point" rubbing his head at the recent memory.
GM..Kashka |
Through the banter, Robin and Agriver dump the table contents against the wall, and manuever the large table into place. It takes some effort but they do manage a good makeshift bridge.
Meanwhile. Yon and Rboud keep watch from the corridor.
Agriver Rall |
"Vala, can you check the door? I will stand to one side and enter on your mark"
The paladin carefully traverses over the table to stand at one side of the southern door.
Vala Tinkersmith |
Vala nods as they shift the makeshift bridge into place before approaching it, testing it with her foot, nodding again, then walking across.
Once across she checks the ajar door and area for traps, waits for everyone to get into place again. She pushes the door open further with her foot checking what she can see of the room.
GM..Kashka |
As Vala steps forward, Agriver hears faint clinking... the sound jingling a coin purse would make his intuition tells him.
The walls and ceiling of this room are hidden behind a thick, gray-white forest of spider webs that blocks all vision beyond ten feet. Webs are everywhere, creating a maze of vertical sheets. Gray, furry dust clings to the sticky, white webs. The desiccated, shriveled corpse of a long-dead man hangs spread-eagle across one of these layers of webbing, and rusty swords, daggers, and axes hang securely from others.
the web is all difficult terrain. It is flamable as most webs are.
As the door opens, the sound stops.
Yon Li'l |
Yon stares into the murky depths of the webbing. Knowledge Nature?! Why would I bother learning more about that. What made this, isn't it obvious? Some kind of spider.
"Careful spiders are small and can be... uh... poisonous... as there are such large sheets of webs I bet there are at least a few in here." Yon whispers to the party.
Robin L'il |
"Webs? Sounds like spiders, right? Can't see nuthin' alive? Light it up, I say!" states Robin, matter of factly. He takes out a torch, and his flint and steel, and starts to light it.
Agriver Rall |
Glancing at the rogue after the comment. ”Very funny Vala”
Once the torch starts to blaze Agriver will take it in one hand with the other on his great sword (resting the blade on his pauldron) and start to burn away the first five feet of the now open room. Presuming it goes as planned, he will continue to clear the room out trying to anticipate the spiders that sure to come at him.
Pushing his nose into the collar of his cloak to avoid any smoke of fumes, he hopes this is a good idea.
GM..Kashka |
The first square of webbing lights slowly on fire.... watching it, it takes over 20 seconds to burn out. the next square must have been older as it takes only about 10 seconds. As he lights the 3rd square, Vala sees a big spider come out of hiding looking to bite Agriver from above....

Glancing at Vala and smiling "It did in fact come from above!"
Agriver drops his torch with a soft thud, then grips his blade.
Greatsword: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Damage: 2d6 + 5 ⇒ (6, 1) + 5 = 12
The paladin laughs at the irony.
GM..Kashka |
Agriver's greatsword comes down hard on the spider, finishing the already wounded beast.
As the torch falls, it ignites another square. In the glow, a coin purse can be seen tangled in the web nearby, as well as the glint of steel. The party will find some mundane weapons and a coin purse full of copper coins.
Yon Li'l |
"Poor creature, should have stayed hidden instead of thinking of a meal." Yon says at the ungainly pile of the beast's corpse.
Seeing the bag of coins on the floor he says, "Maybe there's more treasure for you to find behind the webs, brother."
Robin L'il |
"tAs I expected. Good job. "
Agriver Rall |
"I agree Yon, they were just defending their home. It was unfortunate, but it had to happen.”
Rising from one knee with the torch again in his hand, Agriver resumes clearing the webs from the room and ensuring the threats are subdued.
”Tend your wounds and I am ready when you are Vala.”
GM..Kashka |
The party clears the webs, and find a couple of longswords and 5 daggers and a handaxe - all rusty but usable.
2 people are still injured - then what direction Vala?
Robin L'il |
Robin grunts at his brother, then takes our his wand of cure light wounds. He applies it to both Spyridon and Vala.

Yon Li'l |
The desiccated corpse draws Yon's attention, and he briefly examines it. Knowing it was likely killed by the spider, he studies it for age and if it might have been a wizard.
Heal: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Rbuod |
Rbuod, anticipating a fight, is on edge. Pacing. He eagerly plays with the corpse of the large spider, tearing legs off if they do. But all the while he keeps close to Yon, as his master moves about the room.
GM..Kashka |
The corpse is unrecognizable and long dead. Nothing else around the room is noticeable beyond the burnt web.
Vala Tinkersmith |
Vala collects her thrown dagger, putting it back in her boot.
She takes out her clw wand and hands it to Yon. "Mind holdin' onto this for me. Same as top level?"
Seeing that the room is clear now Vala looks at both doors, takes out a coin and flips it N1S2: 1d2 ⇒ 1. She then checks both doors for traps, but goes to the North one to prep to open it once everyone's all set. Same as before. Except. "You sure you want to step in right away Agriver? Shouldn't I at least check the first square for traps before you go bargin' in?"
Agriver Rall |
"Fair point Vala - please leverage your abilities." he say's absently rubbing the back of his head.
Once the all clear is given, Agriver will move into the new room.
GM..Kashka |
Vala steps up to the north door, finds it unlocked and not trapped. Upon pushing it open 1/3rd of the way, does not believe the couple feet in front of it are trapped.
Agriver steps through the doorway. The floor of this small hallway is partially blocked by heaps of stone rubble. A skeletal human hand protrudes from one pile of rubble. The debris looks old, and the few sagging strands of web draped over the rubble seem to have been here for some time.
Agriver Rall |
After a momentary survey of the room, Agriver moves toward the eastern wall and motions for the group to enter, standing guard by the light of his wayfinder.
Perception: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (13) + 0 = 13
”Appears clear, come.”
Vala Tinkersmith |
Vala enters further. Keeping checking for traps. Searching for anything else interesting too (secret doors, loot, etc).
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
GM..Kashka |
Vala steps into the room, and her keen eyes notice another depression in the stone indicating another pit trap. The collapsed ceiling seems to lead 15 feet up an irregularly shaped hole or shaft where it turns to the right and out of sight.
Is anyone planning to dig up the skeleton?
Yon Li'l |
Yon and Rbuod follow after. The pair are both electrified, and ready for something else to jump out.
Vala Tinkersmith |
"Hey Agriver. Don't step on in areas I haven't checked yet."
"And. Theres another pit trap here." Vala points. "Now. Why they'd put a trap not in the immediate walkway, I don't know. But, hey. To each their own.
Vala takes a closer look at the skele. "Huh. Might have loot on it - what do you guys think? Search it or move on?"
Robin L'il |
"Might as well... never know what we'll find. Spanky, you got a shovel in that kit of yours? Robin will help dig out the skeleton.
Robin L'il |
Robin moves up and takes a look at the door to the south, to see if he can spot anything interesting there.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22.
Yon Li'l |
Yon starts clearing rubble from around the skeleton with his hands.
"gotta remember to learn how to make wood take different shapes." he says.
GM..Kashka |
A shovel is pulled out for Robin as he and Yon carefully dig up a badly shattered skeleton. Its barely recognized priestly robes are mere mold scraps.
Through the skeleton's rib cage (what remains of it) is a glint of copper.
GM..Kashka |
As Yon fearlessly reaches for what turns out to be a key... he notices nothing unusual.
The eastern door is locked while the northern door is unlocked and a quick check reveals no apparent traps.
Agriver Rall |
"We should seen what they are trying to protect with the lock. Vala, will you check out the area past the door for traps once open? Let me know when to enter."
Agriver moves up and awaits the signal, softly muttering a quiet prayer.
