I have a question.
Since the cutlass and the scimitar are, mechanically, exactly the same weapon even down to the price, (the only difference I can find is the Dervish Dance feat) would it be game breaking to allow him to wield a cutlass instead of a scimitar? More pirate-y.

Daemon-blood Tiefling, Cad-archtype Fighter
Feats Combat Expertise, Improved Dirty Trick
Traits Born Damned, Buccaneer's Blood
Skills Acrobatics, Intimidate, Perception, Swim
Zrim was born of the chattel and pirate crew long shipwrecked on a desolate isle somewhere in the Shackles. Unknown to mortals, the island still held a bound daemon from the time of Cyclopean dominion - it's blood and aura permeating the entire island and slowly poisoning him through the blood and milk of his mother.
When the crew was at last able to escape the island, one of the officers of the crew claimed him as his son and raised him up as a slave to be unleased at will to wreak havoc and destroy. And so he was, growing and "training" throughout his life until his "father" succumbed to the pirate lifestyle when Zrim was little more than a boy.
Suddenly on his own, Zrim doubly suffered by coming into the fullness of his latent "heritage". Raised without empathy, and shown none by the greater world, Zrim retreated into his training to survive. Where a rogue would use stealth and guile to steal, Zrim instead chose the more brazen approach of armed robbery. His success at such intimidation and assault grew over the next few years - as well as the beginning of a reputation for it.
Using his reputation, Zrim found a berth for himself on a ship bound for Port Peril and making a start towards the fearful respect of anyone he came across, and the fabulous wealth to live a life of luxury beyond imagining.
Zrim is cold and calculating, and favors force as his first option. He cares for little beyond himself, though the opportunity to be amongst other Tieflings is intriguing.
Zrim is fulfilling his goals (such as they are), they only way he knows how: murder and theft.
Zrim's skin is a dull red color, his eyes are narrowed into slits, and his teeth narrower and sharper than other peoples'.
As stated earlier, Sir Francis Drake.
EDIT: It occurs to me that having 2/5or6 pre-reserved as melee characters decreases my chances of getting in with a fighter. Oh, well, it's fun just to make the character!

Modifications to Obisyth. Female Oni-Spawn Tiefling Druid(aquatic).
DM VoV - I have decided to go with the aquatic druid as I initially mentioned, it works better with her. I have also updated the background based on the limited information I received from the Blood or Fiends book about Oni Spawn.
Unknown background. Obisyth was born to the youngest daughter of a low ranking member of the House of Thrune. Unknown at the time, her father was a rare Water Yai Oni. A vile creature who lives only to inflict pain and suffering on others. In this case by assuming the form of a beautiful male suitor and seducing the young girl. Then, once he had gained her trust, he tortured and raped the young girl. And to gain the greatest satisfaction from his deeds, the Oni killed a servant and assumed his form to watch the girl suffer as her family disowned her and sent her child to far off Sargava as a slave.
____________
Obisyth does not know her heritage as she was too young to remember when she was taken from her distraught mother and sent into slavery. Her earliest memories were of being raised in the slave pens of Sargava. She always knew that she was not a human, but rather was a tiefling, as were the majority of other children she was raised with. Most were girls such as herself, although there was always a market for pretty boys as well. This was because most of the slaves being raised and trained by the cruel southern branch of the House of Dragor were being trained to be pleasure slaves, not common servants or laborers. Once properly trained, these slaves would be sold back to the noble houses of Cheliax, as well as to other locations such as Katapesh, Qadira and even distant Vuldra. Unfortunately for Obisyth, she was never the pretty girl that the others were. Her skin had a bluish-green tint. Whereas most of the other tieflings had vestigial horns and tails, Obisyth’s hands and feet are slightly webbed and on her neck are non-functional gills. And most noticeable was her birthmark, while many people have a small mark somewhere hidden on their body, Obisyth has what appears to be a third eye square in the middle of her forehead. The combination of rather strange physical attributes together with a lack of social skills resulted in Obisyth finding that simply not being seen or heard was frequently the preferred choice.
However, one thing that Obisyth excelled at was feats of strength. Even when she was young, she was unnaturally strong for her age. While her body remained small, appearing frail and almost emaciated, her strength was that of someone twice her age. However, along with her strength came a desire for pleasures which she simply did not often satisfy due to her appearance. While the others with seductive tails and bodies pleasured one another, she was typically left out. By the age of ten, on more than one occasion she had been punished for forcing others to serve her and had on one occasion beaten five girls several years older than her when her advances were denied. When all was said and done, the teenagers required substantial magic to heal the damage done. Soon thereafter, it became apparent that her value as a pleasure slave was minimal at best. Thus, Obisyth was sold to work on a farm in the far south of Sargava close to the Mwangi border and on the coast. Although still a slave, Obisyth found that this work to be much more enjoyable. She liked working with the plants and animals and she was able to satisfy her urges with the other slaves. While she would lose control of her temper on occasion, as she grew older, she slowly learned to control herself which greatly reduced the beatings she had previously received.
While on the farm, she felt almost a connection with the plants which grew from the seeds she sowed and the young animals she helped to rear. However, her strongest emotions, other than lust for sensual pleasures, was for the sea. Fortunately, she was frequently assigned to work on one of the estates fishing boats where she learned to man the sails and sail the boat with her unnatural strength allowing her to pull the nets with the men. However, always within her was a deep desire to be free, to throw off the yoke of slavery and experience all the sensual pleasures the world had to offer. With the sea to the west and the frequent great masted ships which sailed past, she knew she was meant to be out there, leading, commanding, and experiencing all the world had to offer.
While she had thought through and devised many plans to escape, she never had the nerve to undertake them, however shortly after her eighteenth birthday she had cornered another slave in one of the barns. As she forced herself on him, he struggled to escape and struck her in the head. Obisyth does not know what overcame her at this point, but the next thing she recalls is seeing the boy lying on the ground next to her with his head severed from his body. Thus, Obisyth did the only thing she could thing of, she ran. First she fled to the seashore where she hid for several days, living off of shat fish she could catch and the occasional crab or snail. Each day while she struggled for food, she would look out at the sea and watch the ships go by. As she watched them, she knew that one day she would sail on a ship like those, standing on the forecastle with the wind whipping her hair.
Before long, Obisyth realized that her strength was waining and she needed to find better sustenance. So she carefully made her way south soon reaching the town of Port Freedom. Port Freedom was huge, magnificent (at least in her unworldly view). She knew that servants from the estate frequently came to Port Freedom, so she found a place to hide and live in an old ruined temple to some god named Aroden. With her superior night vision, she would come out at night and steal food. While hiding and scrounging such, she discovered that she had a rather strange ability. She could change her appearance for a short period of time. At first she would simply alter her skin and hair color to that of a Mwangi or a Cheliaxian. But over a period of time, she found that she could make herself appear as almost anyone. Thus, she began wait for someone who appeared to have power to leave a building, she would then knock the person out with her strength, steal their clothes, change her appearance to match their, then return into the home or business from whence they had just left and gather food or money. Or initially it was just food and money. Before long her urges for sensual pleasures became too great and she began to take advantage of anyone unsuspecting in the home - wives, husbands, servants. As she was performing these acts in the appearance of the ones that were loved, it took time before the town realized that someone, or something was using its people.
At heart Obisyth would have preferred to not harm people, but her unnatural lust for the sensual forced her to take advantage of these innocent people. And her upbringing in the slave pens had not taught her that this was truly wrong or evil, after all, being forced to sleep with your superiors was the norm where she was raised and since she felt that she was the superior, there was nothing wrong with her tactics. Over time she gathered enough wealth to acquire wooden armor and an old scimitar which she disdained using for fear of hurting someone - once again, she did not know that her other actions might cause pain to others.
Sadly all good things must come to an end. One day, after knocking out the mistress of a captain fresh off a ship, she assumed the girl’s form and went in to satisfy herself. During the experience, the captain bound her to his bed with manacles. Due to the limitations of her ability to change herself, she reverted back to her normal blue-green skinned form before she was done. When this occurred, the captain grabbed his cutlass and went to attack her. She managed to kick him away and slip out of the manacle with her new smaller frame. While he got back up, she fled the town. Not knowing where else to go, she fled south out of the city following the river south and east.
Now, she was once again on her own. She managed to steal food from a few farms as she proceeded, but she knew that she could not sustain herself so. Thus, it was with great luck that approximately a week after fleeing Port Freedom, she became entrapped in a snare set by a hunter. But, before the hunter arrived an old man appeared. She did not know where he came from as she never saw or heard him arrive. All that she knew was that one moment she was hanging upside down from a tree, and then next the old man had released her and was asking who she was and whether she was okay. She nodded and asked who he was. He responded that he was an old man and that was all she needed to know. He invited her to his home for dinner which was a rich stew of native vegetables. After talking for a period she discovered that he called himself a druid and that he sought to protect the wilderness from evil, both manmade and natural.
Having no other place to go and having found one of the first people in her life who did not view her as an abomination and evil, Obisyth asked whether she could stay with him and learn his ways. She explained that one of the few things she enjoyed in her life was working with the animals and plants on the estate. He agreed and over the next few years she learned how to work with nature, how to call to and befriend the animals. And most importantly, she learned how to control her urges for sensual pleasures. During this time, she even gained an great seabird as a companion, a mighty albatross which she found injured and lying on the ground near the river one day. She picked up the Albatross, carried it back to her home and nurtured it back to health. While the old man was generally attuned to the jungle, he found that her love remained the sea as she would frequently walk down and watch the waves and the storms, the ships and the birds. This she thought was a life she could love and remain at forever.
Sadly, it was not to be. When she returned home one day from gathering plantain, she found the old druid skewered through with a spear and on it was a note which read - “The House of Thrune never forgets those who defy it and will track those guilty of disrespecting the great lord Asmodeus to the end of the world.” Stunned and shocked, Obisyth simply sat there staring at the dead body of the one person in her whole life who had been kind to her. After spending several days despairing over what she should do, she finally decided that the old druid would prefer to be returned to the nature he so loved. Thus, with great remorse, Obisyth dug a grave and carefully buried the old man. After placing several stones upon the grave in the sign of the Green Faith he followed, Obisyth stood up and realized that the need for pleasure was upon her as well as a deep need to avenge her mentor’s death. She did not know how, or when, but that she knew that the next part of her life would be devoted to inflicting as much pain on this House of Thrune as she could.
Thus, was it several weeks later that Obisyth snuck aboard a ship heading north from Port Freedom. After several stops along the way, where strange rumors abounded afterwards of both husbands and wives recalling nights of wild pleasure of which their partners had no recollection, Obisyth found herself in the pirate haven of Port Peril. She quickly learned that those in the city were not to be trusted. Unfortunately merchant ships were not common in Port Peril, at least not when controlled by merchants. During this time, Obisyth came to a realization. While she might not choose the evil ways common among many pirates, if the ends justified the means, then the method was satisfactory. As Cheliaxian ships controlled by this House of Thrune were common in these seas, by joining a pirate ship, she would be able to exact her revenge, one ship at a time.
So was it that Obisyth found herself sitting in the Formidably Maid hoping to find someone looking to take on new deckhands. Little did she know just how soon she would experience life as a pirate.

Here is LLaelian's full submission:
Alua Heartpiercer, Hungerseed (Oni-Spawned) Ranger.
Str 16 (+2), Dex 16, Con 13, Int 10, Wis 14 (+2), Cha 8 (-2)
Hungerseed (Oni-Spawned) Ranger, aiming for sword and shield. I would like to go with the expanded spell-less ranger from Open design if possible. If not, I'll stay simple ranger.
Skills: Acrobatics, Climb, Intimidate, Perception, Stealth, Survival, Disguise.
Feats: Two weapon fighting
Traits: Superior Clutch (Tiefling hungerseed trait), Captain's Blade (Andoran trait).
Alua was born in the house Leroung in chelix, result of a breeding program of one of the house wizzard. Interested in the tiefling race, he summoned or brought different demons or devils to impregnate chosen slaves and observe the results. The most promising offsprings were kept while the others were sold or even discarded.
Born from an Oni father, Alua quickly displayed both the physical prowess of her father and some limited shapechanging ability. That was enough to keep her alive, but with her gray skin, horns, fin looking ears and extra large hands, she was too ugly to be kept in the breeding program. So as soon as she was old enough, she was sold as a galley slave where her natural strength could be used.
The should have been a death sentence as the life expectancy of the slaves on the galley she was was below two years. But she could endure the whippings and defend herself against the other inmates. And she would never ever give up. In there, she was blessed by the gods, for after less than six month, her galley fell into a trap laid out by three Andorans Gray Corsairs' frigates. The fight was short and bloody but Alua not only earned her freedom but also managed to settle her accounts with some of the inmates that had managed to molest her. No one was going to report four more deaths among the rowers.
Once free with nowhere to turn, Alua chose to first settle with her liberators, so that she could settle her lust for revenge. There she learnt the basics of fighting and moving on or above a deck and spent almost 6 months raiding the Chelaxian galleys. But the military discipline was not for her and once her thirst of blood was sated, she left the ship and made her way to somewhere she hoped she could both prove herself, gain enough to be whatever she wishes and if possible have another shot at some Chelaxians: the Shackles.
Hopping from ship to ship was easy enough, but once there, she quickly realized that her appearance and origin was once again held against her and she was time after time rejected as a potential recrue. Eventually, she ended up in Port Peril, in the Formidable Maid tavern, where she was served a spiked drink…
Alua is a tall grey skinned tiefling, with two small black horns on her forehead, fin-like ears and hands larger than they should for her size. Both supple and strong, she handles herself on a deck without flinching. She keeps her powers to herself as the ability to change shape can be a life saver in many occasions especially against enemies unaware of this talent.

The eldest son, normally follows into the family business, yet despite his obvious flair,
it was never to be, the 3rd child Danbar was to follow. It wasn't that he disliked Danbar, it was the way his father ignored his efforts,
belittling his contributions. Feeding his nature, feeding his envy of the ordinary humans, a seed of vengenance nurtured and feed in his early life.

The next step was the Cheliax Navy, from a respected family, it was difficult to make the transition,
to start as a rating, but that's where he started. In someways, these days were the best days, for the lap of the wave,
the salty spray of a wave, these comforted and made the young man feel at ease.
It was during these early days when the navy was in desparate need of ratings to protect their shipping
against pirates and the enemies of Cheliax, that somehow his nature was forgiven.
He even was able to improve his rudimentary crafting of wooden goods, to the extent he started producing
wooden legs and other anotomical replacements. He started to help the ship's surgeon, showing a distinct
gift for healing skills. The surgeon took him under his wing on one trip, bringing him to understand the gods,
specifically Sarenrae, his healing skills. It was then that everything went wrong, the battle that changed everything for him
The ship lost its 'Lucky' captain not in the battle, but under the care of (tiefling). The surgeon, already dead, blown apart
due to an alchemaical bomb exploding as the pirates of wrath attacked. It was now for (tielfling) to assume
the responsibility, it was then he failed to 'save' the 'Lucky' captain.
The pirates were eventually repelled, by the death of the captain allowed his human friends to turn on him
for his abnormailities. Blaming him for the death, they left him castaway lonely on a remote atoll.
With no water or food, left to go mad under the heat of the sun, to think of the betrayal. The sun heated the dormant
hatred of the Chelaxians. The dehydration and heatstoke that caused him to see things, his destiny,
his god Besmara, who called him to her, bathed his head and poured pure clean cool water down his throat,
it was her who called him, it was her to whom he was to turn to, his god, his loyalty.
His galley returned a week or so later, the galley sent a small craft to the atoll, their mission
to finish the punishment that had started earlier, to finally put an end to (tiefling)'s life.
His rediscovered heritage took over, somehow he was able to call down a force that shattered the boat in which the
execution squad was traveling. That and Besmara's call to the sharks, left none to tell the tale.
The galley left, leaving (tiefling) to his own solitude and probable death.
It was later a small pirate ship found him, nearly dead. Another slave to be sold for cash,
however weak he might be. Over time (tiefling) recovered his strength, and his talent for
healing. Leaving him to heal several of the scurvied sailors aboard. The crew then left him to
his own, just using to heal when he could. And so he arrived at Port Peril, time for a drink.
Still needs to flesh out a bit more, but the general gist of it.
To gain revenge of Cheliaxians,
to aid other tieflings in their struggle against oppression
to make human and other superior races suffer
to show that tiefling is really the superior race.

I would like to submit to you Urgoro Moanshooter.
Skills - Intimidate +5; Sense Motive +4; Swim +7
Feats - Improved unarmed attack; Dragon style feat; Dodge
Traits - Bully: +1 trait bonus on Intimidate checks; Dockside Brawler: +1 trait bonus on damage rolls with brass knuckles and improvised weapons.
Urgoro could be one of many illegitimate sons of Arronax Endymion, former fleet admiral of Cheliax. At least, that's what his mother Mya had told him. At her prime she was a sacred priest of Calistria, and she was sent by her church House of the Stolen Kisses in Quent, along with several others to try and expand domain of her goddess onto Ollo.
It seems that this idea did not find a good reception with Avimar Sorrinash, ruler of Ollo at the time. His "allies", the sahuagin informed him that they considered sea and lands around Ollo domain of their gods, and that they will not tolerate it. Since he was unwilling to move against sacred priests of Calistria himself, Avimar arranged for a raid of sahuagin to happen while he was away. Raid targeted specifically the site designated for new temple of Calistria and almost all persons related to it were either killed or dragged away. His mother Mya was one of those which were captured, but it seems that her luck held out. Instead of becoming food for those obnoxious creatures, like many others, raiding party which had her imprisoned, was in turn successfully ambushed by man of Arronax Endymion. She was recaptured and brought to his ship, along with other loot.
She spent there next two months, with his fleet, at sea, before admiral got bored of her, and resold her back to some of his local contacts in Ollo. Eight or nine months later, Urgoro was born.
His mother never talked to Urgoro about her time on those ships, but she was always insuring him that his father is admiral Arronax himself. For sure. Not that it mattered much. They scrounged somehow for living, with Mya being disgraced and cast out of the church, the moment they saw that her "baby" have a fiery red barbed tail. When Urgoro was 13, his mother was killed in one of the orgiastic hunts of Avimar Sorrinash' crew of werewolves.
Urgoro somehow survived, and for the next 12 years he did hard physical labour jobs and petty thefts, just to obtain food somehow. His physical appearance (tail) got him in trouble on a regular basis, but with time, he learned both to hide the tail and to fight. He became a skilled brawler, and after some time, he started working as one of many bouncers in a shady dockside establishment in Ollo. there, he came into contact with one of many groups planning to overthrow Avimar. As for dozens of plots aimed at him before, Avimar was onto this one as well, and at the most opportune moment he released his werewolves against the conspirators. Again, more due to luck (if one can call it that way), Urgoro was able to run away and avoid the slaughter. He ran from Ollo, hiding as stow away on one of the ships. As faith would have it, ship was destined for Port Peril, but some time after leaving Ollo harbour, Urgoro was discovered and...
Urgoro hates Calistria, as he believes that she has deserted his mother. He also hates Cheliax (although he has never seen it) and Admiral Arronax Endymion, as the only "representative" of Cheliax he knows. But most of all, with all his passion he hates werewolwes and Avimar Sorrinash, and he would do everything in his power to exterminate them.

I would really love to play in this, as evidenced by my being the first interested post, but I think I will withdraw.
Its not that I cant whip up a character, but I am already in two PbPs run by Voiceless and I'd like to give others a chance to play under him. Besides, when a game is themed like this, I'd rather read the book(s) that deal with the setting first, and I just got Blood of Fiends and have yet to read Pirates of the Inner Sea.
However,

On re-reading what I wrote for Zrim's background, I got the feeling that he's not exactly... plays-well-with-others. Kestryl |
I really wanna get piratey with a fun cap'n and crew. I originally designed Kestyl as a Sylph Rogue-Sniper. It doesn't take too much tweaking to make her Daemon-Spawn instead.
And before I forget: Favorite Pirates are Captain Jack Sparrow (cliche, but what's not to love?) and Han Solo (face it, he was a pirate).
So, submitted for your approval...
Kestryl
Daemon-Spawn Rogue-Sniper 1
Daemon-Spawn: +2 Dex and Int, -2 Wis; Skills: Disable Device and Sleight of Hand; SLA: Death Knell
Kestryl has never known who her original parents were. She was found as a young girl by a tribe of wandering gypsies. Rather it would be more accurate to say, she found them.
The Caravan had been travelling down a wooded carriage road, when the Matriarch heard a strange noise off to the side. Hoping it was game they could catch for dinner, the caravan stopped and scouts were sent to hunt the animal.
Noises led them further and further away, and then suddenly disappeared. Just when they would give up and start back, the noises would start up again, heading in a different direction. Then stop. This repeated a few times before the hunters gave up, discouraged. They ignored the noises the last time and just headed back to their wagon. There they found that a charming but strange girl--no more then 5 or 6, with slit pupils, small pearly horns, and claws--had snuck into their food supplies while they had been on the wild goose chase. She still had a fistful of the pepples she had thrown with great accuracy to lead them astray.
Furious at the embarrassment and missing food, the lead hunter was about to beat the girl, but the Matriarch pulled him back. She declared it was destiny, and the girl was meant to travel the Long Road with them. The Matriarch adopted the girl as her own.
Life with the gypsies was not easy. They travelled much and stayed nowhere. When honest work was not available, they grifted. Kestryl turned out to have uncanny knacks for distraction and misdirection. She loved to climb to high places and surprise the unwary. And no one could best her for accuracy with stones or daggers.
One day they pulled a grift on a Cheliaxian noble, who was fierce in his vengeance. Many of their Caravan were killed, or imprisoned. Many went missing. The Matriarch's last words to Kestryl were to run and make a new identity. It was no longer safe to wear the Caravan's colors.
So Kestryl ran. She ran until she could run no farther--she had found the sea.
When she stepped into "The Maid" Kestryl had no thoughts beyond begging, borrowing, or stealing her next meal. Destiny had other plans. When she got press-ganged, Kestryl was only momentarily discomfited. Then she laughed and laughed. After all, this was simply a Caravan on water.

Info as requested posted in this thread :) Noting as somebody else did, though she may seem like she won't play well with others she would be incredibly happy to start making a name for herself with a demon crew. What better way to strike fear into the hearts of those who dare sail her waters!
Born from a human mother and unknown father, Kilarra was both beautiful and terrifying to look at for anyone who knew who she resembled. With crimson eyes, pale green skin and a near-translucent fin that ran the length of her back, she was the spitting image of Dagon, Demon Prince of the Sea. Her mother didn't know what to do with her, and tossed the babe into the sea to try and be rid of it.
But by some unholy power, the infant survived and washed up on the coastline where she was found by a secret cult dedicated to Dagon. She was worshipped by the human cult who recognized the image of Dagon, and trained to be a fearsome combatant. She went through many mentors over the years, as she had a vile temper and was quick to jump into combat with the trident they had gifted her. A mentor never lasted more than a year or two before falling to her as she flew into an uncontrollable rage in combat and struck them down.
One of her favourite things to do while she was not training was to take one of the rowboats out to sea, feel the salt water splash over her, the rocking of the boat as it rode the churning waters. She felt more at home here than anything and knew she had to be destined for more, destined for greatness. Destined to rule the seas.
As the cult worshipped her for over two decades, her ego and temper continued to grow - but they eventually started to fear her. She had grown increasingly more monstrous, but still had a strange beauty and grace to her. Her flowing black hair flowed even where there was no wind, as if her hair itself was water. They feared not only her temper but how demonic her looks had become as well. Kilarra reveled in the feeling of striking fear into the hearts of many and finally decided she had spent enough time with the human cult and set out on her own.
As she left, she claimed a title fit for somebody with her destiny: Demon Princess of the Seas. She set out for Port Peril where she knew she could find work on a ship and start building her name for herself. She found her way to the Formidably Maid in search of work and caught a rather charming human smiling at her. It had been quite some time since Kilarra had felt the rush of being in command over a human male in that way, so she made her way over...

And the review begins - this will take me some time and I'm going to do it in chunks and from the top of the list to the bottom. Please don't take the number or tone of questions as any indication of success or failure in any way.
Lastly I'll be spoilering the queries primarily for length considerations, but there isn't anything secret in there - so feel free to read if you like.
2. Backstory is probably a little too well accomplished for a 1st level character, but that's ok as the gist wouldn't change. Though personally I see Mengkare as a far more insular ruler. He would have rooted out the rakshasa, but once the taint was off Hermea - I wouldn't see him tracking down the remainder with assassination teams. The rest of the story is fine, and works even without the threat of Hermean retribution. Thoughts?
2. What sort of Oni was it? (if you don't know the Golarion specifics, that's fine - just curious)
3. Monk's are required in RAW to be Lawful - though to me that also can be interpreted as having a strict code of conduct or the like. So what code does Takao follow?
2. Are the powers going to come in over time as instinctual revelations?
3. I must admit I'm intrigued by the fetish... what would yours look like appearance wise?
4. For the leadership aspect at level 8 would you be looking primarily for crew or soldiers?
2. Mechanically it looks ok, but needs some work on the backstory.
2. What sort of Oni tainted the bloodline?
3. What was the breeding program's intent? - and where were the mothers obtained? Also - how did they not get crushed by the Chelish authorities?
DM - Voice of the Voiceless |
2. Which navy captured Eumnus?
2. I'm assuming it's the navy of Korvosa? - I don't personally see them having much in the way of cannon... are you happy to have been de-legged by a ballista or a catapult / trebuchet instead?
3. If the study in the academy was maths and engineering, where / when did you study the arcane?
2. Where does the taint in your bloodline come from?
3. What was the character up to before getting taken?
2. Backstory is well linked in with places and people - I'm assuming that you'd eventually want to seek recompense against Cheliax? - or would that desire wane as you sank into piratical life?
2. I'm assuming you grew up in Port Peril?

FYI all - here are the Fiendish traits and feats that have been added to the D20pfs site.
Tiefling Stuff
Tirion Jörðhár |
@DM VoV - the Superior Clutch (Tiefling; Hungerseed) trait allows -->
Your hands not only are bigger than normal, but also have a strong grip useful for wielding large weapons.
Prerequisite Hungerseed Tiefling Heritage
Benefit You gain a +1 trait bonus on damage rolls when using weapons intended for creatures of a larger size.
Whereas a roll of 16 on the classic Tiefling alternate traits is:
You have oversized limbs, allowing you to use Large weapons without penalty.
With the Superior Clutch, can you wield large weapons without penalty? Or do you still suffer the penalty to hit, but get both the damage from the larger weapon and a +1 on damage.
Bleyz |
Let me know if you have any more questions or need more clarification. :) I'm really stoked about this campaign and hope I make it in.
Tirion Jörðhár |
For anyone looking for background info on the fiendish races, check the d20rpsrd.com site. Click in the little white search box in the top right of the page. Then just type in your base fiend race - demon, daemon, oni, etc. One of the choices should be the base monster type with a description of the race and all the subraces. In the case of Oni there are Water Yai, Fire Yai, Ogre-Mage and several others. Same for the other races as far as I know, Div, Demon, Kyton, etc.
If you want to be able to focus your tiefling build from one of the sub races - the seductive Succumbi, the gigantic Water Yai, the monstrous Pit Fiend - you can do so.
John Rhasp |
1. How long ago did he come out of the amnesiac episode?
That's up to you. I wouldn't mind having him start having just washed up on the beach and press-ganged (or something). You tell me what would work best for the story and I'll go with that.
2. Are the powers going to come in over time as instinctual revelations?
That was my plan. The class description mentions that Death Mages learn spells from haunting voices. I was going to expand that into a full-blown character theme. I'm thinking that he hears the ghosts of drowned pirates (maybe his old crew or something) leading him towards uncovering his past (and seeking revenge!)
3. I must admit I'm intrigued by the fetish... what would yours look like appearance wise?
I think it will be a ship's lantern carved from bone, glowing with unearthly light. I'll add stuff to it and enchant it as I go. Eventually maybe I'll stick a Darkskull in it.
4. For the leadership aspect at level 8 would you be looking primarily for crew or soldiers?
Aren't pirates both? :)
If I have a ship by then, probably a crew.
I also plan on taking Leadership, and I have Create/Command Undead, so I'm going to end up with a *lot* of minions. I could probably man a very large ship and still load the belly full of undead soldiers.

Direct link to Oni information is here.
2. How did you get from Taldor to The Shackles? - overland or oversea?
3. How did you kill the Knights of the Lion Blade? - would it not have been a more level 1 appropriate action to just evade them?
2. Were you raised on Port Peril? - or another of the Isles?
3. Which skills were you taking at 1st level, and which are your primary focus?
2. Background seems a little strong for 1st level, but that's fine as the gist is there.
3. How do you plan to reconcile her feeling of superiority with the fact that she'll be wholly powerless for some time. The background makes me feel a bit like she's in for a keelhauling... thoughts?
2. What were you armed robbing? - was it afloat or on land?
2. Who killed the old man, and why?
3. How would you feel being devoid of your animal companion for some time? - you'd eventually meet back up, but not until well into the 1st segment of the AP.
2. Apart from awakening his abilities - how will the lightning scar play into the RP?
3. Not listed in the information, but what Alignment do you see him as?
2. I like the flavor of the story - but what type of human (or indeed other) is the tiefling-ness laid over? (ie. Mwangi, Chelish, etc)
3. What (if anything) of his early life does Fish remember?
2. Note that the description isn't finished yet. Will review once posted.
3. How did a tiefling fare in the Chelish navy?
2. Where did the caravan operate?
3. Did you have any particular Chelish noble in mind? - or is that left blank for filling in later.
I believe that's one round for everyone. If I've missed anyone with a completed app, please nudge me for a reminder. Those who've expressed interest but not yet a full app will be reviewed once the full app is up.
flykiller RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32 |
1: When an ancestor fell madly in love with a beautiful woman which could never be his, he has bound a shadow demon and arranged for it to possess the woman's body. The plot was that the demon would make the woman appear insane, and after she got outcast from the society the demon was to leave. The ancestor would then marry the ruined woman "out of pity". He did not calculate that the demonic taint would linger in her heritage...
2: I'm not happy to be de-legged in the first place, but yes, a rope from a trebuchet/ballista, or an explosive bomb for a catapult could do the job just fine too. ;)
3: Self-taught with private tutors, starting at young age and continuing in parallel with the formal education. The magical abilities of the siege mage are restricted compared to most wizards, so that would explain it. In addition, I plan to take the approach that math (especially geometry) and physics have common foundations with the art of magic.

My answers:
1. Does Urgoro worship any god?
Yes, he pays service to Gorum. He is not very dedicated in his worship, I envision it similar to the relationship Conan has with Krom :-)
2. Backstory is well linked in with places and people - I'm assuming that you'd eventually want to seek recompense against Cheliax? - or would that desire wane as you sank into piratical life?
Very good question - honestly you got me there for a second. After some deliberation, I would say that he would definitely be "pissed of" at Cheliax, and he would seek recompense. Or to put it differently - he would actively act against them, seeing Cheliax as a responsible entity for most of his troubles - if they did not consort with devils, he would not be born that way. I know that it is a very simplistic and skewed opinion, but Urgoro is not the smartest guy around, so that is the way he sees things.
Ander Tarvenio |
1. Your background says accused of slavery and murder... did they or didn't they?
2. How did you get from Taldor to The Shackles? - overland or oversea?
3. How did you kill the Knights of the Lion Blade? - would it not have been a more level 1 appropriate action to just evade them?
1. Sorry for the shortness of that. Had still some shaping to be done with background so at least now able to fill.
They did. Tarvenio´s family has been meddling in shady business for generations and slowly slipping to the darker side / gruesome deeds to do anything in order to advance in ranks of Taldor nobility. This is normal trait / personality in family which is also affected by the daemon blood in the veins of family (sometimes driving some members of family insanity which causes rest of the family to execute "fallen" member fast and usually blaming them for all of the evil deeds inside the family).
2. Ander reached The Shackles by oversea. His family was not the most generous or liked plus with the recent accusation and "infame" they had received quite hefty bounty. Using his connections his family had and debts of people... but affected by his new outlook and menacing powers (ensured that they would not backstab him or give away to authority) he was able to secure as safe as possible means to get out of Taldor. Reaching The Shackles Ander killed the crew of the ship (non-famous crew & captain) to ensure his escape and whereabouts.
3. I would see it at that moment he was shaking for his life, vision blurring and his life passing through his eye... the fear overcome his mind. At that moment the daemon possessed his body and saved his life (the blood and ancestral instincts taking over. A manifestion to be more precise: the daemon had seen promising future for this decendant of his with chance to acquire great power). Coming to his senses again he found himself stained in blood and two Knight of Lion Blade dead. Ironically, the same night as he became true member of his family and earning "rights" for their full-support by murdering, his family line was being destroyed, removed from the history and ceasing existing.
Regarding playstyle and thinking it about: I see Ander starting as True Neutral and advancing slowly towards LE or NE due to his ancestral blood. He is fine and otherwise but in the heat of battle (stressed and threats) he is giving more way to his ancient blood thus giving accesss to his powers (would explain more deadlier spells plus his undead minion / whole undead theme behind him). His thinking and perspecting world would change over the course of campaing more to the evil, precisely because of his daemon-spawn heritage. After each fight or (level-up) here he can´t accept to his new spells until fight/stress/other circumstances allow his heritage affect him, giving him spells of his ancestral but also slowly pushing him to evil: slowly but surely
ThatEvilGuy |
Also, should I be chosen, I'd like to play up the Dagon angle despite him not being a worshipper. His family has been in the cult for a long time and it's in his blood. Either ancestral memories, strange dreams, bizarre powers to co-exist with his druidic abilities (multiclass? feats?) would work.
Brass Pigeon |
1. What interest was Llamolaek indulging in when he bartered with your ancestors?
In his quest to regain power, Llamolaek tried to raise armies in several ways. By accident he came into contact with an ambitious captain without a ship nor a crew who was willing to pledge his loyalty to Llamolaek and raise a navy for him. In return he wanted to command that very navy to become a legend of the seas. Llamolaek had not focussed on navies but saw an opportunity and gave the captain a crew and a ship. The captain then raided the seas, becoming a fearsome naval force while capturing more and more ships as he forced their crews to fight for him, and later Llamolaek.
2. Which navy captured Eumnus?
Eumnus the Unlucky was captured by a small merchant vessel used as a bait by the Rahadoum navy.

Joneth is usually quiet and collected and soft-spoken, almost to the point of whispering when speaking. He rarely raises his voice and even more rarely smiles and the expression most often associated with him is one of disinterest. Possessed of a dry wit, when his ire is finally raised, there is no red hot fury or rage; there is simply a sarcastic tone coloring his voice and remarks and anger cold and controlled hidden behind them.
Unbeknownst to him, however, his parents, or at the very least his mother is very much alive, or she was when her tiefling son, a mere baby born but hours earlier, was left by the young woman's family at the orphanage's doorstep. For she was not only a noble woman, albeit of a minor house, but a married one at that and her baby was not her husband's, but her lover's. Her perfectly human lover's, one should add, all things considered. He was no fiend or other supernatural creature and neither was the poor noble woman. But if one were to, perhaps, go back more than a few generations, then one might discover an ancestor, a woman who was a witch of no small skill and who summoned a demon, an incubus, for some task now long forgotten. And in exchange the witch lay with the demon, their union violent and lustful and brief and one that would produce a single offspring, a male half-fiend. But, although the sorceress thought nothing of it and her son quickly disappeared to parts unknown, her bloodline was forever tainted. And from then on, whenever a woman of her line conceived a child through an act of base lust or violence, that child would always be a boy and more often than not would also carry within him a small part of that incubus' blood.
And Joneth was such a child, which is why his childhood was neither a happy one nor a particularly long one. After all, having fled the orphanage, the young boy had to grow up quickly if he were to survive. So at first he stole, all the while learning the fundamentals of fighting with a knife or dagger. And then he fought, taking part in fights, sometimes organized in pits or makeshift arenas and sometimes spontaneous when attacked in a back alley by someone after what few coins he might have in his pockets. And, finally, there was a time or two, when he was at his most desperate, that he killed on command and was paid for it. But there was never a time that his victim was entirely innocent and had not already stained his or her own hands with someone else's blood first. And that helped him sleep at night at least.
Macharius |
1. What type of daemon tainted your line?
1. Zrim was tainted by a Purrodaemon.
2. What were you armed robbing? - was it afloat or on land?
2. As originally imagined, he was little more than a kid (say, early/mid-teens) when his "mentor" died. He then began robbing people on land, beginning with easier targets such as drunk sailors, small-time shopkeepers (tailors, net-mendors, weavers, etc). Each successful robbery increased his confidence, to where he was robbing/assaulting more successful merchants - the type that would have a guard or two. These kinds of targers are still small change: the real riches are the trade ships traveling between Avistan and Sargava, which is the main reason he wants to be a pirate.
Jarred Henninger |
Mainly as a rather blunt person. He figured out awhile ago that the best way to avoid interrogation is to not get caught, however if caught, stay quiet. Hes smart enough to know when to keep his mouth shut, but unable to answer a question in a tactful way if asked.
His pirate Ancestor made a deal with a devil that as long as he and his crew were fighting, they were unbeatable. When the crew mutinied the contract was broken and the devil took them all and tainted the captains bloodline as broker of the deal.
He was passing time before a job, getting a drink and waiting for the sun to go down. That leaves an opening for an angry ex-employer to come after us if you feel like using it.
Jonasty1031 |
1. What job role did you and your mother perform while growing up in the Shackles?
- Jorath's mother was a common bar wench and sometimes whore. Although the Shackles did allow for a slight amount of acceptance, being Touched by the Pit didn't generally make it easy for people to want to trust either of them.
Jorath himself quickly found himself enamored with the sea and sought to work on a ship as early as possible, possibly due in part to the thought of the trade his mother was a part of and his limited options on land. It took him a long time to find anyone willing to give him a chance but he eventually became a cabin boy/deck swab on a pirate ship.
Given his racial heritage, it wasn't an easy job and he learned quickly that he would need to become more invaluable to a ship in order to be welcome aboard one. That's when he started to learn the healer's trade and the beginnings of becoming a ship's chirgeon(surgeon). As he felt the touch of the Outer Rifts begin to fill him with a divine energy (aka took his first level in Oracle) he knew that this would further allow him to prove his worth on a ship and allow him to be welcome aboard more vessels despite his heritage.
2. Were you raised on Port Peril? - or another of the Isles?
- Jorath was born in Hell Harbor on the island of Devil's Arches. His original ancestor thought she would be less conspicous giving birth to a possible demonspawn child there and that is where his family originated. He grew up there but he only spent as long as it took him to find his first berth on a ship. Since he began life aboard a ship he hasn't been back and his mother has since moved on to Port Peril, finding the market there much better for her "talents". He's visited her a couple of times and so has a passing familiarity with Port Peril and Hell Harbor from his youth. Given the way the adventure path starts in the player's guide, Jorath was probably in Port Peril visiting his mother. He was getting ready to leave when he visited the tavern and was then press-ganged into the AP.
3. Which skills were you taking at 1st level, and which are your primary focus?
- Of my skill list and with my 5 available points, my first level ranks will go into Swim, Prof (sailor), Heal, Know (religion), and Intimidate. My focus will then be on Swim, Prof sailor and Heal to fit with the idea that Jorath was being groomed to become a ship's surgeon. Otherwise I will spread the rest of my points around as I level to give him a broader skill base to work with.

Posting from phone so forgive any strange autocorrects.
Yes I can put everything in her profile. I use that charsheet for ease of readability mostly, as I don't own hero lab.
Killing a few mentors and scaring some people didn't seem overly much to me, unless you meant the whole "being worshipped" thing.
I can see her struggling to regain her power through any means necessary - but she lacks the smarts to get it done on her own. If she finds herself part of a merry band of demons I can see her putting aside her ego for some time as she builds a name for herself as a buccaneer.
I think after she gets knocked about a few times and realizes she isn't as strong as she thought that she will seek aid from her new fiendish allies.

1. I'm inclined to Repulsive, the dead fish eyes bother people, or Twilight Zeal, the sea at night is a place where she has the advantage. I do like River Rat though. The idea of sneaking around the ships and docks and fighting in/around the water.
2. Mauxi. I'm thinking the mother was from Rahadoum, either bought or stolen, that was then exposed to deamonic influence or experimented on. However, Fish could have also been experiment/exposed directly. Starting normal and then changing. Like to get your thoughts on it.
3. Just a few random things before age five, waking up underwater the first time, being hungry in a dark corner, a person saying something. That sort of thing. Nothing concrete about parentage or origin. Could have still been at her place of birth, or with mother/father, but if so, doesn't remember it clearly enough to say 'This person is/was my X' or 'I know where/what this place is'
After that, has decent enough memory. Taken in/rounded-up by a man a la Lamm of Curse of the Crimson Throne, during which she was used to retrieve things from the sea, steal from ship, etc. (Hence river rat) Thing changed after getting distracted during job, I see the wisdom penalty manifesting as being easily distracted and having an off sense of normal, and the man, who we shall call Lamm, threatening to turn her into a fish patty. She jumped into the bay and hid under the ships. After some time, it dawned on her that this could be permanent, all she had to do was stay underwater. It hadn't really occurred to her previously that she could leave, and it was a simple as not coming back 'home'.
For fear of Lamm, and because the city isn't that fun anyway, she stays underwater most of the time, but uses the abandoned pier to meet/communicate with friends/people she knows from the surface. It's easy to make friends with wharf rats if you give them free food. And food is easy to find in the sea. She thinks Lamm believes her dead, but isn't sure.
This sounds pretty rogue/ranger-ish, hence wondering about switching out some of the witch skills for climb and survival. I'd like the mechanics to fit the fluff, but don't want to hamper the crunch too much.
Looking forward to your feedback.
