I can see an argument for imprisoning and questinoing this bugger, but lemme argue against that, for two reasons.
.
One, he's good enough to have filched the ghostolord's phylactery. Anyone that good won't stay in *any* prison for long.
.
Two, he'll give misinformation before telling the truth, and in our situation that will be worse than nothing.
So, I say we let nature take its course.

Just in case he's outvoted, Bofus carefully searches the sniper--specifically for lockpicks and other tools one such as himself would use to free himself from imprisonment. Take 20 on the search while the rest decide. Using EoD, that's 39.

The haversack holds a number of the items indicated such as the potions as well as a bedroll and some rations.

The coffin shop appears to contain nothing else that would be of value to a party of adventurers. However, there are a number of wood working tools and an ample supply of wood if that is of interest to you. Come to think of it, you don't want a coffin do you?

is there anything on the sniper that is not necessarily valuable, but something of an identifier? Maybe a tattoo, or a differently shaped body part (ear/finger, etc)? something that a nasty little thief might cut off and deliver to the enemy to snub their nose with another failure?

The Blackspawn Raiders actually have two horns that are reminiscent of those of a small black dragon. You could sever them off with relative ease.

Anything else to be done here? You are nearly finished this chapter. All we have left is the final battle. I was hoping for a change of pace from combat, but that is the way the climax of the Battle of Brindol goes.

Hehehehehe make her think she's killed the enemy leader!! i'll go find someone to deliver this to the Wyrmlord! I'll meet you at the cathedral. Just before leaving he sticks the note on one of his arrows, then makes for the wall to find any of the enemy (unless one of you stops him for whatever reason). As soon as he can find any bad guys within bowshot, he'll yell out to them HEY!! GIVE THIS TO THE WYRMLORD B1TCH and fire the shot near them to deliver the note.

We also have a great deal of treasure to sell. Hasn't been a good time, what with a war going on and all...but make sure you all check my profile for the Undivided Loot. If there's something you like, grab it. There are some cure potions and a potion of Blur in there.

We also have 2 scrolls fom the Ghostlord's lair. I don't think we determined what they are yet. Can we do that soon? May come in handy...


Captain of the Lion Guard of Brindol

As you leave the coffin maker's shop, Lars Ulverth approaches on horseback. "There you are! Thank the Inheritor that we found you!" the captain declares. "Wyrmlord Kharn is nearby. He has gathered several of his most powerful remaining minions and is marching on the Cathedral of Peace Through Vigilance. He is intent on destroying it and removing critcal clerical support from Brindol's defenders. We just return from a harrowing battle to the north against Wyrmlord Kharn. We were able to kill a few giants and the last of the manticores, but there are still quite a few creatures in Kharn's personal entourage. I'm estimating that the Wymlord will attack the cathedral in less than 10 minutes. With my own soldiers badly wounded, we would appreciate any aid that you can give! I think this will be the final stand."

The cleric liberally applies a wand of cure wounds repeatedly until the halfling's wounds are completely healed and he is back up to full strength.

Yeh, this is true. I think that with Read Magic I should be able to decipher any scroll. I could be wrong on this though.

Dungeon Master

A moment later you are gathered just outside of the cathedral with a group of beleaguered defenders. These are the last of the Brindol Lions. They form ranks in the square facing the road leading to the advancing horde.

The advancing horde is heard minutes before it is seen. Horrifying howls, guttural roars, and dragonbone horns announce their arrival. When the hobgoblin army arrives, it does so from several angles at once out of the darkened shadows of rubble strewn streets. The soldiers in the square brace for the impact and in only a few seconds the open area before the cathedral is a battlefield.

Battlemat

If there are any preparation done before the hoard arrives, be sure to let me know before I roll for initiative. You would of had about three minutes time.


Wyrmlord Kharn himself strides out of the chaos, his pathway cleared by hill giants and ogres that casually fling aside defenders with great sweeps of their weaponry. Kharn is an imposing figure, a towering hobgoblin nearly 7 feet tall. Dressed in full plate armor made from the scales of a red dragon and wielding a blood-slick greatsword, he calls out a challenge to the heroes in a voice hoarse with rage.

"Where is the rabble that will oppose this favored soul?! Step forth and prepare to be crushed by a Talon of Tiamat!"

Prep moments!!

Bofus starts rifling through his pack. Here, tirion, take this... he tosses a Potion of invisibility to the gnome. Maybe i'll help you get in a good position to shoot that cone of colds scroll! do you think you can cast a Web between those two buildings, so they have to pick one of two directions to approach? We need to use the terrian to our advantage. In fact... He pulls out another potion--Spider Climb--and quaffs it.

I'll go up on that roof (he points to the western building) and snipe a couple shots, then come down and help set up flanks when I can.

Bofus then addresses the remainig Brindol guard. You boys need to STICK TOGETHER!! don't spread out. We've got to make them come to us as much as we can. Your advantage is discipline; their advantage is chaos. don't play to their strenghts, make them play to yours!

Bofus then runs up to the building he indicated, and runs up the side of it, finding a good vantage point to make his first shot count.

Stealth: 1d20 + 26 ⇒ (20) + 26 = 46

Thank you. Against the horde this will be most useful. Against the big red dragon, not so much. I shall put it to good use against the horde in the hope of stopping them before the dragon arrives.

According to my character sheet, I have one 4th level spell and three 1st level slots left. Probably the best use of the 4th level slot is one last haste. I can then enlarge Mantooth and Thordak before starting with the wands.

I like the Web idea, but think that haste for the increase damage and AC is probably a better option.

EDIT - It just dawned on me, we killed the dragon didn't we? It has been a while and I am really exhausted these days. If we killed the dragon, then ignore the dragon related comments.

Agreed on the spell suggestion. If tirion makes that public, Bofus will try to get into the area of effect!! I often miss that...and you're right, we offed the dragon earlier.

I do admit, Tirion, this has been a long evening for your characters! It is amazing how many spells you do have. Good thing you are a sorcerer and can choose only the best spells for the moment. So, are your plans ready or do you need some more discussion?

Yup - I am ready. I am actually using a level 4 slot for haste, but I think it is much more useful in this case than Black Tentacles.

I can also enlarge Red if necessary. Then I will be completely out of spells and will just have wands and my acidic spit. Enlarge Person lasts 8 minutes, so I should be able to use it ahead of time.

I think that I tend to be much more prudent than many casters. It always drives me nuts when the level 1 cleric starts every battle off with Bless and then complains that they don't have any spells left. Buffing spells are tactical weapons, use them when needed against tough opponents. Most fights are of equal CR, and a reasonably skilled party should be able to take down CR +0 or CR +1 without a whole bunch of buffs and debuffs.
