Avril with the help of her trust companion try to figure out what's up with Ambassador Saleh.

Somewhat impressed by how well informed Vahnt and Titus seem to be, Lady Dyrianna look at the pair in a new light. "I will admit I'm surprised. I'd always taken the Pathfinder Society as a troupe of somewhat oblivious grave robbers."

"Since you seem to so well informed, perhaps you could help me with something", the beautiful elven woman says with some amusement. "My bodyguard Faelyn looks to have disappeared at some point during Genedair’s speech. I don't suppose you saw him slipping off somewhere. Possible with a pretty servant girl or two in tow?"

Influence +1.

***

Lord Rothos polishes off his brandy and gives Sabrina another appraising glance. "And you believe your Pathfinder Society is equipped to provide that leadership? Perhaps you are. I heard how well the Society handled things in the Diamond City."

Influence +2. He seems fully on board with supporting the Pathfinder Society now.

***

Watching and listening as Grand Ambassador Dremdhet Salhar speaks with the other guests, Avril picks up on the fact that he was once a staunch supporter of the Pathfinder Society but that support has been tested with the Ruby Prince’s recent dismissal of Salhar’s longtime advisor, the Sapphire Sage Amenopheus. He seems to believe that the Pathfinder Society orchestrated Amenopheus’s dismissal in order to undermine his efforts. As a result, Salhar has a strong distrust of any Pathfinder and seems to reserve a special distaste for Major Maldris and Lady Morilla.

Discovery! There is no additional skill options but Avril has learned that Ambassador Salhar is difficult to influence.

I appreciate the effort but it's not necessary to correct the other players Avril. I can handle it (ask the players in my EotT game!). And in this case Vahnt corrected the error himself.

Vahnt's surprising depth of knowledge on Keleshite culture and etiquette goes a long way with the Scion Lord. He beams with gratitude, both for the conversation and the distraction from Lady Vaelia's racist comments.

"Perhaps I was misinformed in what I'd heard about the Pathfinder Society. If your peers are half as engaging as you two, I'm certain we will do plenty of business together in the future."

Influence +3. He seems fully on board with supporting the Pathfinder Society now.

After a few minutes of brainstorming with Avril, Sabrina recalls the name Wintermark and where she'd heard it before. Lady Vaelia’s husband and three sons all died 36 years ago when Qadiran raiders crept across the Jalrune and attacked their estate. As a result, she is the leader of a small but growing cadre of Taldan nobles who want to obstruct any further efforts to send Taldan troops to far away Mendev.

Avril speaks briefly with the doorman and it's learned that Lady Vaelia was not even invited to this event; she must have heard about it, pulled strings, and arranged to receive an invitation.

Discovery! Sabrina and Avril have learned that Lady Vaelia is impossible to influence.

Suddenly, a woman’s shrill cry cuts through the chamber music and muted conversation. Across the salon, Senator Naran holds his buxom young wife in his arms after her apparent collapse.

As all eyes turn on the unconscious woman, the senator emits an angry cry: “Poison! Gods, my wife has been poisoned!”

As a result of this announcement, many of the guests and servants panic and the room erupts into chaos. Servants scatter as several of the guests toss their full wine glasses to the floor, while others spit out their wine with looks of horror and revulsion.

Lady Dyrianna quickly comes to Dalessa’s aid, kneeling at her side and chanting a spell. "I've neutralized the poison - whatever it was", she explains despite the chaos around her. "She should be okay."

He keeps an eye on the elf as she works, while checking Dalessa to be sure that she has been poisoned - and looking for signs of taggit poison - and that she has been effectively treated. While there are some few people he has come to trust since leaving Galt, he is well aware that things are not always what they seem.

"I did not unfortunately. They wish to disrupt this and sow chaos. As befitting a demon or their sycophants. And their plan is working. We need to find anyone else here who is on the side of demons."

Vahnt is aware that many outsiders, demons especially, are known for teleporting at-will.

Senator Naran and his still-unconscious wife, Lady Vaelia and her manservant, and the bulk of the rest of the guests compose themselves and quickly leave the feast. Within a couple minutes, all that's left is the Pathfinder representatives, Lord Rothos, Scion Lord Kerkis, and Lady Darchana. Lady Dyrianna looks like she wants to leave as well but can't quite bring herself to do it. "I can't leave until I find Faelyn. With this talk of poison, I'm starting to get worried."

Lady Morilla perks up at the mention of Lady Dyrianna's bodyguard. "I wouldn't worry. I saw the young man outside in the garden just a moment ago. Pathfinders, put Lady Dyrianna's mind at least and bring him inside."

It's obvious to Vahnt that Lady Morilla is quite concerned about Faelyn, the wandering servant, though Vahnt has his own suspicions about the man, given his reported 'taste' for servant girls, like the two whose faces were eaten off. In any case, he nods curtly at Sabrina's suggestion, moving quickly toward the garden and quaffing the contents of a pair of small vials on the way.

The salon where that scene took place is rather large. The fiendish servant girl was more than 20 feet away when she vanished. Detect evil is easy to trump. There's a half dozen ways to do it.

Stepping outside, the party immediately hears some movement near the garden's gazebo. On the other side of a hedge wall Faelym can be seen, staring starry-eyed at a pair of stunning elven beauties. When the party comes into view those facades melt away revealing a small feline creature with a fiendish glint in its eyes and an alluring woman with tiny horns and bat-like wings.

"Do not worry sweet thing", the woman coos as she steps away from Faelyn. "We'll deal with these assassins."

between talonstrike and Sabrina's anchoring aura ahe wasn't going anywhere

I applied it for you when I brought it up.

Iomadae's champion strikes the succubus down in a burst kaleidoscopic light. The demon's sundered form falls to the ground where it shrivels and turns to ash seconds later.

On the pair of slain outsiders, the party finds an assortment of trinkets but more interestingly, on the cat-demon-thing, a small book is discovered.

The Journal:
This book, written in Infernal, seems to double as a book of poetry and a journal chronicling the relationship between a Zruuka (presumably the Dandasuka) and Samivashti (the succubus). It appears that the pair met centuries ago in Vudra. Samivashti served Zruuka’s master, a powerful rakshasa named Alavranushva, before later slaying the common rakshasa by draining its life force. Then, more as a curiosity than a sincere interest, the succubus invited Zruuka to join her in her travels. Centuries later, Samivashti and Zruuka remained companions and enthusiastic paramours who relied on each other’s different philosophical outlooks to better spy on and understand others. Though many of the poems are merely expressive insights into Zruuka’s and Samivashti’s murderous deeds, they also recount — in very lurid detail — the pair’s long, twisted love affair.

The party returns to the manor with a dazed Faelyn and the demons' remains in tow. Major Colson is quick to take the dead demons off the party's hands (along with his swordbelt) and presents them to the remaining guests as proof that the party responsible for the frightening attack earlier has been dealt with. Lady Gloriana Morilla quickly capitalizes on the debacle, citing it as proof that the Worldwound’s reach is too great to be ignored but also that the Pathfinder Society is equipped to deal with the battles to come.

Grateful for the party's help in recovering her favorite courtesan/bodyguard (Influence +1!), Lady Dyrianna is quick to voice her support for using Absalmon's resources to aid in the crusade. Lord Rothos, Scion Lord Kerkis, and Lady Darchana all agree, pledging to do their part as well.

That's it folks!

Vahnt is about to strike when Sabrina's divinely charged blade strikes down the succubus! He's intrigued to watch the demon's form turn to ash, and can be heard counting to himself as he times how long the process takes. "Very interesting," he mutters, "there must be a relationship between the time of death and the time of...ooh, a book!"

He scoops up the journal and studies it in rapt fascination, scarcely noticing that the party is moving back into the manor and speaking with Maldris until he's asked to explain the book. The outcome of the whole affair is rather gratifying, and has given him a good deal to think about.

Thanks for running, Feral!
