Sounds good, Osei will spend some time in the library.
Knowledge(Planes) [Take 20] = 29

The moth-women are pretty horrible. Fortunately, they're very rare. They are not great combatants in melee, but are mind-readers and masters of mental manipulation. They can change and implant memories, and can also exert control over their victims from very far away. Some of their mental powers seem similar to those of a succubus, except oh so much less fun. (One sage theorizes that they are in fact some variant of a succubus, but horrifically twisted.)
Very few Crusaders have ever seen one, so you'll be encouraged to make a written record of your experience.
Douglas Muir 406
Sense Motive without a specific question or interaction gives you general information on the NPC's mood, but no details.
Irabeth is anxious and unhappy, but suppressing it; she just wants to get everyone safely back to Kenabres.
Sir Robert is a bit sad that Crusaders have died, and worried about Irabeth, but does not seem to have any other underlying agenda. Sir Robert likes and trusts Irabeth; does not like Quednys; and really does not like or trust the Marquis.
The Marquis seems amused by it all. He's a diplomat, so it is possible that he is concealing or dissimulating deeper feelings.

Will do that - actually will attempt to include it in character. I'm working on a dream sequence, currently, and will post when complete. Also, does the 29 Know.(Planes) mean I know things from the PFSRD on the demon?
Would like to talk to Kir after he's well (if that happens), to see if he's up for relating his experiences as data for the report.
Takka of the Toad
Takka frowns deeply at Nurrah as Irabeth ties her up. "...Master Robert. Before I return to battle - or, perhaps, if I am allowed to do so - ...I would be eternally grateful to learn the art of the bow from you."
Takka looks down at his claws, shaking his head and clenching them. "I... was foolish to think a kobold could face such evil straight on... my kind are more suited for... trickery, conniving, and sneakiness. None of them things I like, but... it seems it cannot be helped..."
Sir Constantine Godalming
"Understood the priorities of your person, I will then see to my comrades as I am able."
Takes up Takka on his shoulder....
@Takka
"Take heart Takka my mother is one of the best archers and a ranger to boot, there is no shame in discovering one's talents, we will make a fine archer of you."
Takka of the Toad
Takka's eyes go wide as Constantine lifts him to his shoulder, holding on a little to his head while he gets his balance. "Ah... th..thank you." he said, looking cautiously down to the ground. This was much higher up than he was used to on Sleek.
"I have seen her take up the bow. I fear for any demon who crosses her. But... I doubt I will even get the chance to learn. I am responsible for what has happened here... I will be lucky if I am allowed to remain in Kenebras at all." Takka's eyes drooped to Nurrah again as his gaze hardened. "...but if I am to learn the bow... with Apsu as my witness, I swear to repay these actions on those dastards. I will hunt them down... and make them pay."
Balek Nine-fingered
"That's the spirit!" , Balek encourages Takka. "Fight as best you can, with the weapons that suit you best, and together we'll make them pay! Sir Constance and I know a few good places to train an archer, don't we?" He glances over at the young half-orc, a tmomentary winkle in his eye. "Remember the south alley?"
You are not to blame for this, Takka, but you cannot hear that yet. I wil tell you, on the day you can.
Balek turns to Sir Robert, and asks carefully, "I have never been involved in such a hearing -- what can or should we do to best prepare for it?"
Sir Robert seems the best of these to approach, with Irabeth concerned about the prisoners. I do NOT trust the other two... I hope we can get a fair hearing, and a merciful, but these outlanders...
Osei Otieno
Osei listens to the thoughtful encouragement from his cohort to the kobold, absentmindedly and repeatedly circling his fingers along the barely palpable woodgrain in his quarterstaff. Takka, with support like this, and the conviction that many of your draconic blood find so easy, you will no doubt find your way.
"And, Takka," Osei says, "should you ever wish to explore the magical heritage inherent in your blood, I would be happy to share what I know." From the shadows of his hooded cloak, there is, perhaps, a small twitch at one corner of the wizard's mouth, and then fades slowly.
I wonder, though, how we shall fare as a team. If 'team' will even be applicable to us, going forward. Kyami and Torg are dead, Takka is mount-less, and along with Sir Constantine - to be questioned about their direct insubordination. And Nurrah ... poor Nurrah is obviously fallen inward, lost to her grief. Don seems a bit traumatized. Kir ... well, the priests can hopefully see to that demonic seed.
And you survived unscathed, eh, Osei Otieno? Osei frowns, and his gaze hardens, staring down at a single locust, crawling along the leg of the now overturned table.

Sir Constantine and Takka
The hearing is in process, the tribunal is seated, and the accused are brought forth.
"Sir Constantine Godalming and the kobold Takka, self-styled Of The Toad. You stand accused of disobeying the direct orders of your superior officer, and by so doing, willfully and recklessly endangering the lives of your fellow Crusaders.
"How do you plead?"
Douglas Muir 406
Osei Otieno
Quednys pauses beside your carrel. "Studying the enemy, young scholar? Well done. We should study them most carefully, so that we may strike against them with the greatest force." Here in the library, the old wizard seems ever so slightly more relaxed. "I see you are beginning with the Coda Indices. That is correct, but I believe I can save you a little time. The earliest discussion of the moth-women is found in the dreaded Krankenhammer, the sole surviving work of the mad cobbler Stefan Schimpf. A more detailed discussion can be found in An Answer for Night-Hags.
"Both those books are of course on the Proscribed List, but if you make an application, you may note that it is for my attention, and I will give it my favorable review. Mind, at this stage of your education I would not recommend reading anything in the Krankenhammer outside of Chapters Two and Three, and possibly Chapter Twelve if your stomach is particularly strong."
Master Quednys pauses, eyebrows raised.
Sir Constantine Godalming
”This will not do! A safe house was compromised and many dwarves murdered along with powerful villians afoot and this tribunal choses to focus upon those nearly killed who suffered great loss, who happened upon the scene at the bitter last of it! “
”I stood my ground against not one, not two but all three villians! When others could not. I acted in defense of the lives of my fellow crusaders, had I not stood others would have fallen!”
”I plead guilty in defending those who were unable to defend themselves!”
”I also challenge the legitimacy of the authority of the officer above me based upon her actions and likely involvement in the attacks!”
”That must be answered before I can answer your charge, as an unlawful order must be disobeyed.”

Haruka
Laurine does not look well at all. Her lovely face is haggard, her hair is stringy, her eyes are hollow. It looks as if she hasn't eaten or bathed since you returned from the field, and perhaps not slept either.
She hesitates a long time behind the door, obviously uncertain whether to admit you. Finally, she steps back and allows you to enter.
"Cuh, come in," she mumbles. "Sorry the place is such, such a m-mess." She looks down and does not meet your eyes. Her room is indeed a mess -- clothes and bedclothes are strewn about, and the curtains are drawn. There's a faint unpleasant smell. "I, I, I'm not much for... for..." Her voice trails off. She has folded her arms around herself again.
Osei Otieno
Osei gasps and jumps at the sudden proximity of the nasal voice. He hadn't heard the man approach.
"Ah! Master Quednys, you ... you startled me. I'm afraid I am quite enmeshed in these readings. There is much to learn." Osei caps his inkwell and turns to listen to Quednys, respectfully. He adds a nod at the elder's recognition of the tome he had chosen to begin his search. He grows still, when Quednys mentions the Proscribed List, but recovers quickly despite his heartrate rocketing behind his ribcage.
"I, ah, -AHEM-", Osei pauses to swallow and then recovers his focus. "As you point out, I notice that the indexed information given in the Coda seems rather fundamental, and while being pointed to a review of the elementary characteristics on demonic mental control is valued, it gives naught but a mere glance into the specifics of the moth-like demons and their 'eggs'. Your offer of aid in obtaining the proscribed tomes is quite generous, and -", the young wizard leans towards Quednys, his cadence becoming more rapid, "- intensely exciting. I have worked in these stacks for years, and have not been given access even once."
"I will take you up on your offer." And then, as much to himself as to Master Quednys, "I believe my mental fortitude is sufficient."
Haruka Shiraboshi

Yes, he can move rather quietly.
"- intensely exciting. I have worked in these stacks for years, and have not been given access even once."
"I will take you up on your offer." And then, as much to himself as to Master Quednys, "I believe my mental fortitude is sufficient."
"Very good, young scholar! I commend your zeal. After you have completed your studies, pray stop by my chambre, and we can discuss your findings." The old wizard gives you a paternal nod and then glides away across the polished wooden floors of the Library.
The next day, the two volumes arrive on your desk. You
-- Read them, but only the bits recommended by Master Quednys
-- Read them all, cover to cover!
and then you
-- stop by Master Quednys to discuss, as per his suggestion
-- don't bother
Douglas Muir 406
Laurine definitely does not want a hug -- she looks simultaneously depressed and tense, and ready to jump out a window.
Her attitude falls under "Unfriendly", though it seems to be more depression/anxiety than hostility towards you. You can try to change that with a Diplomacy check, which in this case would be a minute or so of soothing conversation. The purifying ritual is a good suggestion, so a +2 bonus for that.
Balek Nine-fingered
There is a time to live, and a time to die. A time to fight, and a time to mourn.
Balek considers his glass for a long while. One needs courage to visit the families of the dead, but it is not a responsibility he can shirk.
Sir Constantine Godalming
”As for Takka I will not see his grief twisted to guilt, that is the work of demons! He shall not step one foot onto the road of guilt, shame, self-loathing, the road of ash is barren and bitter and a road that leads away from where he is intended. He may travel the road of hope, redemption or the road of heaven. It is our job to encourage him should he stumble not to push his face into choking mud with our heels so we can pass more easily through the muck!”
Sir Constantine hugs Takka....
Takka
”Look first to Nurrah and determine if indeed in some secret pain she turned upon one of those other roads, abandoning her true self and at that moment secretly adjudicated all her authority to give lawful orders. I contend any orders after her betrayal were all void.”
Takka of the Toad
Takka sits quietly as the tribunal speaks, letting Sir Constantine have his say. He raises a hand to pat back at the hug, but still remains silent. Finally, however, he scoots off his chair, wincing as he stood to his hobbled feet and walked up beside the paladin, patting his leg. "It's okay, Sir Constantine..." he said, looking up at him with a forced smile. "I don't regret my actions."
Looking back up at to the tribunal, Takka hobbled forward and nodded. "I... understand my presence makes those in your crusades... uncomfortable. My kin and I are not known to walk paths like yours, because we simply cannot. We are too weak to do so... and for a while, I believed myself to be too weak to even try."
Takka motioned down to his legs, as if to indicate that his condition really shouldn't permit him to be up and about. No doubt the still-healing wounds and bandages he tried to obscure made that image sink in more. "I didn't come to Kenabres to fight demons... I came to speak with the silver dragon, Terendelev..." Takka looked down for a moment at that. How ashamed she would be of him if she saw him right now.
"...because I want to be a knight. I was dropped as an egg, and my legs were twisted as a result. I was ridiculed, laughed at, and mocked by my kin. But I found comfort in caring for my... my late companion, my trusted mount, and brave guardian, Sleek." A brief moment of silence. "I know lonliness... I know helplessness... and now, I know loss. They cut to the core... and I do not wish for any other to know them as I do. At the safehouse, when our scout Don came back, I saw fear... pure fear in his eyes. And who could not even tell us the fate of our other scout, Kyami. I acted in defiance, yes... but I did so because I did not wish to lose anyone else."
Takka puffed up his chest, standing as tall and proud as he possibly could. "Brave men, women, and slurks have suffered and been lost, but I acted in the best way I could to protect them. And now... you... you threaten my friend, Sir Constantine, to take away what he has worked so hard to earn? I will not accept this!" Takka thumped his chest with a claw, a brief wince indicating perhaps that wasn't such a great idea, but he still stood tall. "I will gladly accept any punishment you have, for my own actions and his, if you will leave him in peace and let him continue his work!"
Takka turned back to look at Sir Constantine, his smile not so forced this time. "That is... what a knight does, right?"
Sir Constantine Godalming
Aside to Takka
"You my friend will one day be a knight let not your light of hope ever end and that light will guide your course."
Honestly SGC is glad that his friend will be safer in the future, further back from the fighting, but he will also be further from his shield. How can I protect my friends when they are beyond my reach?
Foreshadowing of the 3rd level feat antagonize (assuming that feat is allowed by DMDM ; )
"Maybe one day the example of Takka will turn more kin to the path, tell us again father the story of Takka and Constantine."
Takka of the Toad
Takka smiles more genuinely up at Sir Constantine, nodding as he tried to keep from showing off his fangs. He knew that unnerved people. "I will not. Be it here, or elsewhere, I have walked too far down this path to change it. But you are further along it... if I must wait while you continue on, so be it."

1) The court has access to a couple of magic items. One is the Bar of Truth. It's a simple wooden handrail that you stand before. In game terms, it casts a Zone of Truth spell with a 20' radius. It is not unbeatable -- various sorts of magic can get around it, as can evasion or misleading answers (or a high enough Will save). But it does lead to the presumption that witnesses are telling the truth -- especially if they're corroborated by others. In a pinch they can call on more powerful magic to drill deeper.
2) Nurrah has already testified. She gave a factual account, including her own attack on you. Now she's standing nearby, under guard, staring at you.

Osei's breath catches in his throat when he sees the tomes. Out of the corner of his eye he sees ... something ... reaching for him. He turns to it, and it is gone. He closes his eyes, stills his racing mind, and forces even breathing to slow his pulse as he takes his seat at the desk. With a slight tremble, he readies his pen and inkwell.
NOTE: Osei has used all three of his slots today to prepare Protection from Evil, and will use his Arcane Bond to cast if needed.
Given that he wishes to remain in the good graces of one who has access to the Proscribed Tomes (and/or is headmaster of the library), he will stick to the recommendations Quednys set forth - no matter how much knowledge he wants to absorb. He will start with Chs. 2 and 3 from the Krankenhammer, and he will definitely dive into Ch. 12 - wise or not - but will cast Protection from Evil on himself before starting it. Lastly, he will move on to An Answer for Night-Hags.
Stupid 1 min/lvl durations ...
and then you
-- stop by Master Quednys to discuss, as per his suggestion
-- don't bother
After reading (and re-reading) the sections mentioned above, and after taking copious notes with personal commentary, Osei gathers his writing materials, shakes the excess pounce into the bin, and carefully rolls his rough notes into a scroll case. Hastily, he makes his way to Quednys' study.

Quednys is not a headmaster, but sits on the board that oversees the Library and the activities of arcane casters who are Crusaders. He's a senior wizard who has been with the Crusade for over twenty years. He was a leader in the Purification a few years back, and is a somewhat controversial character, but nobody has ever been able to show that he's anything more than very, very dedicated to fighting demons.
Okay! If you're sticking to the recommended sections, then make an Int check and then a Fort save.

"It, it, it's getting worse! Ever since that thing tuh, touched me! I have these dreams, where I'm, I'm... I have these dreams! And then I w-wake up and... and I still hear them... the bugs!"
Laurine suddenly pulls her hands out from under her arms. "I s-still hear them!"
Her hands are changing as you watch. Their flesh darkens and mottles as if bruised. The fingers grow grotesquely long and develop joints like the legs of a spider. Stiff black bristles sprout from then. The nails hook and lengthen into barbed, chitinous claws.
Laurine's eyes have gone strange and wild. "I still hear the bugs! Bugs! Everywhere!"

Nurrah has already testified. She gave a factual account, including her own attack on you....
What was her testimony? Did they ask about her connection to the bad guys? A factual account can be deceptive by simple omission of salient information, I stated them at the time of the attack and see no way they can be skipped over...well except via railroad

They did, and she said she had none.
To be clear: as far as your character knows, there's no reason for anyone to think Nurrah was under any outside influence at the time of the fight.

Your spells have refreshed. Whether casting helps depends on whether *she* is evil, or being possessed by some evil spirit.
Knowledges: you have the impression this is some underlying condition (tiefling, bloodline, or something similar) triggered perhaps by proximity to the Worldwound or close contact with demons. Of course, it's also possible that this requires a DC 35 Knowledge check, you're completely out to lunch here, and she's going to turn into a giant cockroach and eat your face. You're in a town on the edge of the Worldwound here. Life is full of risks.
That said: you are actually able to get her to sit down and start on the ritual with you! It would be too much to say she relaxes, but she does stop trembling after a bit, and her hands gradually return to a more or less human shape. Good for you!
Now what?

Heh. But no. The Int save was to see if you got additional useful or interesting information beyond what was given above. Alas, not this time.
The Fort save was because Chapter Twelve gets a bit... graphic. And while Osei is formally a combat vet at this point, apparently his high Int score includes a vivid imagination. So he spends the next 12 hours being intermittently nauseated and/or shaken. Not a big deal unless something happens during that time period. You can still have your chat with Master Quednys; you may just be a little hollow-eyed.

"Takks, in your opinion did my actions endanger and risk your life or did my actions seek to preserve your life?"
The senior officer frowns down at you. "That is not the question at hand, Crusader. We are here to ask whether you disobeyed a lawful order from your superior, and if so, whether there are extenuating circumstances.
"You said, 'To the charge of disobeying a lawful order I plead not guilty.' Do you claim that the order was not lawful, or do you claim that you did not disobey it?"
Osei Otieno
Osei cringes as he sets down the cup of half-full fizzy liquid, and paces a bit around his quarters. By Nethys, I'm not sure if this has helped or made it worse. *belch* He leans one hand against the frame of the room's door, lowers his head, and breathes deeply. His attempts to push the images and scenarios involving the moth-beings' larvae out of his mind are temporary, at best. Might as well get this humbling chat over with.
After a slow, gingerly walk, he arrives at the study of Master Quednys and knocks, doing his damnedest to appear undisturbed.
"Master Quednys, I have finished my studies if you have a moment?"
Douglas Muir 406
Master Quednys' chamber is bare and spartan. A locked cabinet contains a few books, but otherwise it it positively monastic. Cold, too.
Master Quednys leans back in his chair and steeples his fingers. "Ah, young scholar, I see you have followed my instructions precisely. Well done. You have demonstrated both obedience and self-discipline -- character traits all too rare in these degenerate times. We'll need more like you, lad, if we're going to fight this Crusade to its necessary finish.
"So, then -- your first look into the List. Interesting? Do you want to know more? Or is this as far as you care to go?"
Osei Otieno
After arching his eyebrow in surprise, Osei bows slightly at the compliments, and swallows back a bit of bile.
"Blind obedience is not always warranted, I believe, and self-discipline is hard-won. However, I felt in this case it was wise to follow your suggestions as your experience and reputation as both a scholar and mentor are impeccable." Osei pauses, considering.
"It ... was not easy to hold myself back. I wanted to scour the texts from cover to cover." Another pause. "Pardon me for asking, but my curiosity is piqued - how did you know I followed your instructions so precisely?"

Quednys smiles thinly. "The Krankenhammer is no ordinary text, young scholar. It includes certain passages that can literally infect the mind. Others are so potent that simply reading them can bring the reader unwanted... attentions. Its author was raving and insane long before he finished the book. His subsequent death, hideous as it was, must be considered a mercy. It is possible to read the book in its entirety, but it will take years of hard practice and discipline first.
"Suffice it to say that this was a test. A first test, and a simple one. And had you failed... it would have been all too obvious.
"Now, I repeat my question: do you want to know more?"

There are a lot of temples, chapels, and shrines in Kenabres -- pretty much all the good and lawful deities, along with spooky Pharasma. But you haven't been in town long enough to guess which might have a divine caster who might be willing and able to help. You're having the FRPG equivalent of "wait, there MUST be an ATM machine around here SOMEWHERE". If you still want to try, you can either pick a deity or just try whatever the nearest one is.
