Darc Jonash |
A gutteral orcish chant escapes from Darc's lips, almost as if it were tobring down the hoards from Belzen itself. A power of the gods seems to encompass Xavier, as his body and mass get bigger as he almost doubles in size. Nodding his head, Darc steps back allowing Xavier the honor of engaging first.
Casts enlarge on Xavier
DM Carbide - Dark Road |
As Xavier grows under the influence of Darc's spell, a bizarre creature bursts through the undergrowth ahead of the party. It looks rather like THIS.
Round 1:
Initiative order:
Big ugly
Sami
Eretria
Xavier
Darc
Rashun
Besmarial
Scuttling quickly on its myriad legs, the creature moves out of the trees into the clearing. It aims the wand it holds in one of its tail tentacles at the biggest and most threatening target (i.e., Xavier) and fires three magical missiles at the fighter. Xavier, take 14 HP.
Party up! Updated map is HERE. Everyone please make a DC 20 Will save and tell me what your intended action is.
Besmarial save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Confusion effect: 1d4 ⇒ 1
Darc Jonash |
Round 1:
Status:
HP: 38/38 AC: 21/11/20 Conditions: None
Will Save 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 Oh! as well!
Darc will cast enlarge person on himself and draw his falchion.
Darc watches as the giant worm approaches, he legs seem to waver.
DM Carbide - Dark Road |
Huh--my post was eaten, or something.
Sami, there is something about the creature's eyes that twists at your mind, but you manage to hold yourself together. You may act normally.
(In case it wasn't clear, Darc can also act normally this round.)
Rashun, it's down to you. Please make your save and start taking pieces out of this thing.
Xavier Longsaddle |
Rashun, don't forget your +2 resist to will. I know POE normally doesn't work on confusion but the text states it.DOES work when a Creature excercises control. This creature controls confused chars so the spell should work if it tries to control you.
Xavier his mind not his own attacks the grimy Orc. (Has reach) And then 5 ft steps to (AE11) so he can AOO, if he tries to move away.
Enlarged TWF PA1d20 + 7 - 1 ⇒ (14) + 7 - 1 = 20
Enlarged Scimitar1d8 + 4 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 2 + 2 = 14
Enlarged TWF1d20 + 6 - 1 ⇒ (17) + 6 - 1 = 22
Enlarged Cestus1d6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 2 + 1 = 9
Enlarged THanded PA AOO1d20 + 9 - 1 ⇒ (13) + 9 - 1 = 21
Enlarged Scimitar1d8 + 6 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 6 + 2 + 2 = 15
That would be right. High rolls. Sorry darc.
DM Carbide - Dark Road |
POE will work against this effect, since the spell grants a resistance bonus vs. "effects created by evil creatures." I feel it is not news to you that this definitely qualifies.
This may help a bit. Xavier, attacking the person who cast bless on you is frowned on by the Powers. When attacking Darc, treat yourself as operating under a bane spell effect (i.e., -1 to hit) instead.
Rashun Tollinger |
will save:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
I didn't buy a ranged weapon. ugh. Note to self get one later.
Activate Ranger's focus which gives me a +2 to attack and damage
Charge the monster if possible:
attack:1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20
damage:1d6 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
My AC is 15 until my next turn
--------------------------------------------------------------------
If I can not charge due to terrain then I will:
standard action: Cast protection from evil which does nothing against confusion, but I am assuming this thing is evil and my AC will go up by 2.
Move action: Move to 10AE
DM Carbide - Dark Road |
Round 1 (cont'd):
Rashun already cast prot/evil while the creature was approaching, and it does add +2 to your save vs. the effect (and will prevent the use of the creature's confusion command ability on you). Not that it helps, with a roll like that.
Rashun, there is something about the creature's eyes that twists at your mind, so that it seems like the most natural thing in the world for you to hit yourself with your own scimitar. Take 5 HP.
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Cold damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Reflex save: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
Besmarial moves above the creature and belches forth a line of bone-chilling cold on it. With a speed that belies its great bulk, the creature moves to avoid much of the effect, though it still takes some damage.
Darc and Sami, you're the only ones left with actions. If Darc still wants to cast enlarge person on himself, he'll have to make a concentration check. Sami, what will you do? Starting from where you are you can still charge the creature if you want.
Darc Jonash |
Xavier, And you've been waiting to hit me .. LOL! you could have the decency to roll low!!! like you did for the will save!!! Oh by the way, that really hurt....just seen the bless has gone .. thank you oh great and honorable GM...
As Xavier suddenly turns on Darc, he sees a glazed look in his eyes, that of one who has had his mind altered. And his mind has been altered by the creature. Then a scimitar heads straight for Darc's head, but his reactions come to his aid and he ducks as the blade slices through the air above, but Xavier is a seasoned warrior and thrusts at the off balance half-orc. The blade sinks into his side drawing blood, which spills onto his boots.
Darc flinches wound, carefully stepping back away from the weapons reach. He then pulls out his falchion and starts an elaborate set of mores, showing his mastery of the weapon, as the deadly ball makes arcs and circles, changing direction at the whim of its master.
Round 1(Revision 1):
Status:
HP: 30/38 AC: 21/11/20 Conditions: None
5ft step away from Xavier (now 10ft away.
Move Action: Draw weapon: flail..
Std Action: Dazzling Display: Flail Intimidating enemies within 30ft.
Intimidate 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21 against all enemy creatures within 30ft. If intimidate above is equal or greater than 10 + the target’s Hit Dice + the target’s Wisdom modifier, the target takes a –2 penalty on attack rolls, saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks
Sami Johoro |
Sami winces at the way the battle has begun. This isn't good. But, I must stick to the plan; if nothing else, I can give time for the others to work out whatever happened to them..
Seeing the creature get into position, he charges out of concealment at it.
swift action to acheive dragon stance; charge attack with elemental fist
attack1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
damage1d6 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + 4 + (6) = 16
15 AC till my next turn; additional damage is fire damage
Oops...damage should be1d8 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (5) + 4 + (6) = 15
DM Carbide - Dark Road |
Sami, you narrowly miss it. As you close with it, however, it whips one of its tails at you--the one holding the sword. Normally you would have dodged it, but in your haste you left it a slight opening, which it took advantage of. Take 8 HP from the AoO.
Xavier, it's against any enemy; as long as the confusion effect makes you attack him, it applies to you.
Darc, you mean you got out your flail, not your falchion, right?
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Besmarial save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Besmarial confusion effect: 1d100 ⇒ 67
Round 2:
Initiative order:
Big ugly
Sami
Eretria
Xavier
Darc
Rashun
Besmarial
Before going, everyone make DC 20 Will saves again.
Darc Jonash |
Darc, you mean you got out your flail, not your falchion, right?
Darc uses a flail... I know they aren't as good as a falchion, but I like them, a spiked ball on the end of a chain and handle. The ball making viscous circles. What's not to like!!
Going back through the events leading up to this point, Darc had already drawn his flail, so full round action for dazzling display is OK. Forget moving 5ft then, unless it can get Xavier between him and the monster.
Round 2:
Status: melee
HP: 29/38 AC: 25/15/24 Conditions: Full Defensive
Darc, not wanting to hurt the man, concentrates on using his flail to repel any attacks.
DM Carbide - Dark Road |
Round 2:
The creature ignores Sami and casts a trio of missiles from its wand again, continuing to concentrate on the large fighter. Xavier, take another 10 HP.
Aura effect on Xavier: 1d100 ⇒ 78
Aura effect on Eretria: 1d100 ⇒ 71
Aura effect on Darc (if needed): 1d100 ⇒ 4
Aura effect on Sami (if needed): 1d100 ⇒ 37
Damage to Eretria: 1d4 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0
Xavier, you still think it's completely appropriate for you to attack the wretched half-orc in front of you, who's apparently doing you damage without you even seeing the blow.
Eretria, it seems completely appropriate for you to stab yourself with your dagger. Your heart's not really in it, though--take 1 HP nonlethal damage.
Darc and Sami, make your saves please. Sami, if you fail your save you'll stand babbling for one round. Darc, whether you make your save or not you can act normally this round.
Sami Johoro |
Will save1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Sami gesticulates emphatically, his arms waving furiously as if he were some gnomish flying invention. He appears quite aggravated that the thoughts he's pushing through his mechanics seem to be getting jumbled before they project forth from his mouth.
Xavier Longsaddle |
Xavier winces in pain, badly hurt, this orc scum was going to die for hurting him so.
Two Weapon Bane, Shaken PA1d20 + 7 - 1 - 2 ⇒ (3) + 7 - 1 - 2 = 7
Damage1d8 + 4 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 4 + 2 + 2 = 15
Offhand Two Weapon Bane, Shaken PA1d20 + 6 - 1 - 2 ⇒ (4) + 6 - 1 - 2 = 7
Damage1d6 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 + 2 = 6
But as fear for his life creeps in to his clouded mind, his swingsare getting less and less accurate.
Darc Jonash |
Will Save 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14 for round 2.
Round 3:
Status: melee
HP: 29/38 AC: 25/15/24 Conditions: Full Defense
Will Save 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 Just in case you need another one.
His strategy working, Darc continues to resist the blows from Xavier's weapons.
DM Carbide - Dark Road |
Round 3 (cont'd):
Xavier flails away ineffectually at the half-orc, who dodges his blows easily. Besmarial bounces up and down in place, Sami is growing frustrated with his confusion, Eretria indulges a tendency towards masochism, and Rashun charges the author of all the party's troubles*, sword held high...and narrowly misses. Fortunately for the ranger/inquisitor, the creature's AoO against him also misses.
*Hey, where'd that guy with the scimitar come from? Hey! Watch where you're swinging tha--OW!
Round 4:
Another round of Will saves, everyone. I have to go over to another building for a few minutes, but will post the seugathi's action when I get back.
Eretria Whitethorne |
Repeating my attempt at a spell from before...
Hesitate will save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Yea, we're f'd. at a DC 20 and our best person only has a +6, he has to roll at least 14 I have to get at least a 15, basically our chances of success on the save are like 25% for me, 30% for Rashun... 20% for Xavier and poor Darc only has a 10% chance of making the save.
DM Carbide - Dark Road |
Round 4:
Updated map is HERE.
The creature focuses its full attention on Rashun, all slavering jaws and slashing shortsword. Rashun is able to evade its bite, but not the sword; the first attack inflicts only a shallow wound, but the second is far more effective. Rashun, take 22 HP total; 4 from the first and 18 from the second. And before I forget, you don't need to make a save this round.
Xavier, it seems the most natural thing in the world, facing a cunning half-orc, for you to hit yourself with your scimitar. Take 11 HP damage. Eretria, this so discomfits you that you charge the enlarged fighter and attempt to cut him down with your dagger. Darc, whether you save or not you can act normally, as can Sami.
Secondary attack on Rashun: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Bite attack on Rashun: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Confirm secondary attack on Rashun: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Damage total: 3d8 + 9 ⇒ (1, 4, 8) + 9 = 22
Besmarial save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Aura effect on Besmarial: 1d100 ⇒ 19
Aura effect on Darc (if necessary): 1d100 ⇒ 14
Aura effect on Eretria: 1d100 ⇒ 80
Aura effect on Sami (if necessary): 1d100 ⇒ 11
Aura effect on Xavier: 1d100 ⇒ 69
Damage to Xavier: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Sami Johoro |
Sami shakes away the odd effects of the beast's powers, then launches another attack at the creature, attempting to stun it with a palm strike as he tries to bring its attention to him so the others can recover. Attack me, beast!
Swift action to spend 1 pt from Ki pool to increase my AC to 21 until my next turn. Attack - stunning fist; DC16 fort save or be stunned 1 rd if I hit
Attack1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Damage1d8 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Darc Jonash |
Seeing the man strike himself and the bleeding wounds that he caused himself, Darc sees that the danger is over, or at least diminished. He moves over towards the worm, the one who has created this chaos. With his flail high he tries to bury its pointed spikes deep into the creatures flesh.
Round 4:
Status:
HP: 37/46 AC: 19/9/18 Conditions: Rage 1/15
Attack Flail 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 8 + 2 = 20
Damage Flail 1d8 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 4 + 2 = 11
Will Save 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 + 2 = 13
DM Carbide - Dark Road |
Round 4:
Sami's palm strike is deflected by some unseen force, and misses the beast. Darc lands what should have been a bone-breaking blow with his flail, but even in his rage he senses that the creature took less damage from the impact than it should have. Rashun, on the other hand, lays open its flank and severs a couple of its many legs. It hisses an obscenity in Aklo.
Xavier Longsaddle |
Will save1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Xavier grits his teeth and finally shakes off the effects of the Monsters Aura.
Suddenly becoming aware of just how badly he is doing both physically AND mentally under the creatures assaults, he knows they are in dire straits. He tries to remember more about this beast.
Knowledge: Dungeoneering1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
He can't remember anything beyond the story he'd already remembered. Dad said stay away and shoot it.
He moves back down the path 20ft (putting him out side the aura's range at AE16), yelling as he moves and drawing a Chakram in his off hand.
Being close sends you mad, move away and shoot!
He then throws his chakram at the thing hoping to hurt it enough to give.the others a chance
[ooc]Ranged Chakram throw,.?1d20 + 7 - 1 ⇒ (2) + 7 - 1 = 8

Round 4 (end):
Besmarial invokes a magical effect, then retreats upwards outside of the creature's influence. Aid on Rashun, 5 temporary HP, +1 to hit and on saves vs. fear.
Round 5:
Saves again from everyone except Rashun and Xavier. The creature attempts to duplicate its attack routine on Rashun, but misses every time (!?).
And the dice module continues to turn against the hapless DM; regardless of your saves, all three of you can act normally this round.
Primary attack on Rashun: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12
Secondary attack on Rashun: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

Aura effect on Eretria (if necessary): 1d100 ⇒ 5
Aura effect on Sami (if necessary): 1d100 ⇒ 11
