As the Spinward Front warzone becomes increasingly unstable, the 304th Teutonian Crusaders are posted to the heavily forested frontier world of Skrynne. The planet's population is a shambles, its communities are in ruins, and the Imperial defense teeters on the brink of total collapse, but it is the Guardsman's lot in life to give his life for the Emperor, wherever He may choose to send them.

"Easy Locke, I'm just playing with you.... but seriously don't take any unnecessary risks, every wounded soldier I have to look after is not only a soldier down, but cuts down on my time for guard duty too"
Arrea nods along as you lay out your plan. "Okay, where do you want us?"
If you try to conceal the Chimera with branches, that's a Common Lore [War] +0 check. Whoever's on the distraction team can give me 2 Stealth tests and 2 Perception tests.
"Let's see ... Some more branches here above the turret ... A couple of them over the front ... A few more into the ground to cover the tracks ... Maybe you could cut down a tree so it hangs over everything with your Chainsword Sgt?" 1d100 ⇒ 54 "Mhh, I dunno ... Still looks like a Chimera, doesn't it?
Anyway ... Do you want me on the Stubber or shooting with Berta, Sir? Also how about some dugholes in case we need to evac the Chimera and fall back? Just in case you know..."
Setting traps or should we just cut to the distraction team? Kirrin from the Flyboys would like to man the Chimera's Heavy Stubber, and Tully could rig up some explosives but it might take a while. The sun will disappear fully in less than an hour.
We have no night fighting gear so the sooner the better. He can try set some IEDs as long as our guys start the shootout. They can comm us as things get interesting... If he's ready by then good, otherwise no harm done...
Sam grins widely at that last comment from Adhalia. "You can sleep by my side, Adahlia. I will WATCH over you so you can take the sleep of the beauty AARGHS!"
Zora ended that pun with a decent kick to the ass of the high-grown man.
Tully Tech-Use vs 53:1d100 ⇒ 23
Tully lays out an array of small tools and a sets to work threading wire through the pins of half a dozen frag grenades (retrieved from one of the boxes hauled out of the Valkyrie) to create trip-mines.
Adahlia and Arrea move with passable stealth, sticking to the growing shadows of evening as they advance on the xeno-held compound. By contrast, Locke's approach would have been comic if it weren't so likely to get you killed--the same darkness that assisted the others seems to stymie the Stormtrooper as he trips over roots and stumbles through underbrush. He falls behind the other two soldiers, who reach the treeline and observe the xenos in the guard-towers. Behind Adahlia, the strap of Locke's hellgun snags on a branch, and with a growled curse he yanks on the weapon, shaking the young tree and sending a flock of birds squawking into the air.
The setting sun is casting long shadows, so +10 to any Stealth checks to hide. Once it hits full dark that's grow to +20

"Hurry up and wait...that's the life in the guard."
Cormaeg mutters to himself, outwardly calm, but inwardly angry that someone else is taking more of a risk than him.
Sam prepares in his own way. He weights the frag rockets in the hand - like trying to decide which one of them is heavier or best balanced. Separating them into three groups of two he loads the launcher with the remaining one.
"Zora, Dear. I intend to remain in the turret, Bertha locked and loaded, hidden under some leafs on top. If they approach and the GO is given, we'll give 'em some hell. If they are tightly packed - you will have to reload Bertha ASAP and keep it up until we're down to a half. Then - or if they are spread afar, I'll spray some stubber fire over them."
The greenskins in the nearest two intact guardtowers start hooting and shouting when the flock of birds goes up, swinging the barrels of the dual autocannons around to point at your patch of treeline...but not firing, yet.
