So as we just announced over on Paizo Live on Twitch... the fourth adventure path for 2025, coming out this October–December, is "Revenge of the Runelords." This is a high-level mythic Adventure Path...

...and is the thing I've been hinting at for a while now at "What would be a great campaign to play after your players finish 'Seven Dooms for Sandpoint'".

I had been thinking about having a "post credits" scene for my Seven Dooms game (the PCs averted the third doom this week!) in which the PCs see the death of Gorum.

If the Godsrain is part of what happens with Xanderghul, as James suggested on Paizo Live!, then I am DEFINITELY doing that.

That announcement was pretty much about was I was expecting/hoping for, but definitely caught off-guard by it being mythic!

And I did plan to run Curtain Call after it. Oh, well. Not exactly unhappy to get a proper Runelord AP to run after dealing with all the Sandpoint stuff.

Also, called it on the retun of Xan-Xan! :D

That being said, I kinda find myself now without proper lead-ins for Curtain Call and Spore Wars. Would be reaaaally nice if we got low-level AP's which more properly connect to these two. ;)

I honestly think running Triumph of the Tusk, Sky Kings' Tomb and Wardens of the Wildwood, and then building a party of MVPs from each of these APs for Spore War, with players also having the option of just building a high level character specific for the Spore War could be fun.

Can you tell us if we should be including Mythic content in our Sandpoint games in prep or will it all be suitable to jump in with at a higher level?

Nope; just run Seven Dooms for Sandpoint normally if you want. You COULD adjust things to be mythic if you wanted, I suppose, but that'd be a fair amount of work.

Part of the Revenge of the Runelords Player's Guide, as well as a small portion of the first adventure, will discuss how you can bring in previously non-mythic 12th level PCs to play in Revenge of the Runelords and "mythic up" as part of that process. I don't have much more to say yet, in large part because I haven't actually WRITTEN the Player's Guide yet, but yeah... play Seven Dooms as non-mythic and you'll be good to go.

Man, I am so excited for this! I am currently running Seven Dooms for a few players that I originally ran Rise of the Runelords for nigh on 10 years ago. Their PCs are the sons of the original PCs and carrying on the legacy.

Revenge of the Runelords sounds like a nice capstone to lay on these characters...

Oh, most excellent. While I am definitely interested in everything I know is forthcoming in Pathfinder at this point, this has gone to the top of the list for exciting (though I will admit, I doublechecked the date of the post before replying - unexpected sequels to much-loved properties are a kind of April 1st story I have seen too many of.)

Self-indulgent question: is there any chance we might see Alderpash in this one? Getting to play him in WotR as a very charming, very intelligent, potentially extremely dangerous but at least apparently thoroughly trapped morally dubious ally, in a similar direction to Anthony Hopkins in The Silence of the Lambs, is one of my all-time favourite moments from anything in Golarion over many years. (Or if that doesn't fit with this story, at least some indication of his status in the canonised-endings-of-PF1-APs era would be very cool.)

From the office of expectation management regarding Alderpash:

Spoiler:
He does not, and we do not reveal a "canonized" fate for him either... his story and fate are something we're leaving mysterious for the moment, so whatever fate your PCs left him within Wrath of the Righteous is, for now, canon.

So, how do we acronymize this one, given Rise of the Runelords (RotRL) and Return of the Runelords (ReotRL)? RevotRL?

It's best to spell it out. I'm SURE I didn't specifically pick these titles to make it complicated or difficult or annoying for folks to acronymize things. I'm sure I didn't do that because I get annoyed by too many acronyms in internet chatter.

(It IS a kind of annoying "extra step" whenever we name anything we publish that we have to try to anticipate if the name is something the internet will turn into a goofy or filthy or disrespectful acronym though... so many ways to accidentally undo years of hard work!)

I'm sure this is precisely why we didn't get "War of the Crown" back then.

Honestly I just refer to Rise of the Runelords as Rise and Return of the Runelords as Return.

100% spot on.

One of my favorite final boss villains in an AP was Syndara the Sculptor and his Spinel Leviathan Syndara form.

So I am hoping for a Xanderghul the Runelord and then Xanderghul the Peacock Spirit form.

Expectation management: Will Liralarue get mentioned or show up?

bit more snarky... decided on the fourth R Of The RuneLords yet?

Spoiler:
She's on the cover of the second volume, so make of that what you will.

As for a fourth one... ask me again after this one's out, I guess?
