Does anyone have any thoughts on a good archetype to pair with Necromancer when using Free Archetype? I hit second level last session, so I need to pick one. My initial thought before playing was a Divine Witch to eventually get Harm, which would let me actually use Master of Life and Death, but after playing two sessions at level 1, I don’t know that the action economy is there to focus on additional casting. If I don’t get a better idea, I’m thinking Rogue, because a bunch of Skill Mastery is always great.

They definitely struggle for actions. I would think an archetype with a lot of defensive passives would help out a good bit. Some thing like a champion(stats may be an issue) or a sentinel that could give access to better armor might be the best option. Being tougher might make it easier to get up close and just stay there, reducing the actions needed to move to safety.
Though skill mastery might also be a good option. You are an int based class, but like every int based class you lack the skill feats and improvements you need to make use of all your trained feats.

You could take up the undead master archetype to get an 'animal companion' level undead you can order around for 1 action
if you like to dig deep for your bones you might pick up archeologist and learn a few things to deal with ruins, traps and dead societies
dandy is another fun archetype if you want to add a social layer to your character
gossip lore is a fun feat and we know most necromancers like to dress in style
if you are a bone or flesh necromancer you could consider exorcist
helping spirits and souls to move on while immediately recycling their bones
of course, werecreatures or undead archetypes are always working in some way

Undead Master and the Zombie is pretty cool, that's what I've been trying out for my playtest build.
You're right that you're very action starved, but if you can manage to position a Zombie Support action correctly, the amount of flanking, damage boosting to your Thrall hits, and general bag of HP is pretty nice to have around.

I agree. Due the action hungry most archetypes that requires actions are unrecommended.
That said the "default" solution for casters that's take a caster archetype to expand the number of your spellslots could be pretty interesting too with wizard, witch and int psychic as good archetype options to expand your spells options and daily usage.

A mount can save you actions, so any of the Archetypes that get you a ridable pet could be decent.
I wonder if there is one that gets you a focus point AND a rideable pet with the dedication.
I'm partial to the Goat because of the climb speed.
The Psychic choice that could work well with the thralls is Infinite Eye and their Amped Guidance and later Glimpse Weakness.
Tangible Dream for Amped Shield feels especially useful to increase your own survival.

I made a spirit monger necro, with both the Exorcist and Occult Witch archetypes.
Between Life Tap, Spirit’s Absolution and Spirit Familiar, I got to play a very thematic off-healer.
Before I realised what I had put together, I was basically playing Emmrich from the latest Dragonage game.

I have a hard time justifying not picking Undead Master for an Undead Riding Horse for most Necromancer builds. Extra opportunities for positioning and movement, on the most thematic and cool creature possible. What's not to love?

Ceilings? Cramped corridors? Oh. Ladders.
