Fighter turning Barbarian

Rules Questions

I am currently made level 3 fighter, but instead I'm thinking about making a switch to barbarian.

I was wondering if this is a good time or should I make 5th level fighter then at 6th, make the switch?

Also, if a fighter goes barbarian, and as a fighter has combat stamina, do I keep the combat stamina and the tricks as a 1st level barbarian, and then when when I switch back to fighter, does he keep rage?

Thanks

Wrong forum???

I'm assuming this is a Pathfinder 1E question.

So in PF1, your character keeps everything he gets from each level.

so lets say you do 3 fighter, 1 barbarian, 1 fighter. You would be a 5th level character with 4 levels of fighter and 1 level of barbarian.

Your combat Stamina would be that of a 4th level fighter, and your rage would be that of a 1st level barbarian.

This is commonly referred to as "Level dipping", or "MultiClassing" and is very common in PF1, as it's a great way to pick up 1 or two things from other class, which may benefit your main class.

Thank you TxSam88,
I really appreciate your helping me.

Depending on your fighter build You may want to consider taking a 5th level of fighter before going Barbarian as this will open up a lot of options by giving you access to Advanced Weapon Training.

If you want a bit of both (Fighter and Barbarian), you can always take a look at the Viking archetype. You'll pick up Rage at level 5, and at level 6 you'll be able to choose between bonus feats or rage powers. You'll trade away the Weapon Training (so no Advanced Weapon Training stuff) and Armor Training (along with proficiency in the heavier armors) but you'll get more AC from shield (see Unhindering Shield feat if you want to use two handed weapons).

levels in a class are like stacking bricks, you get what each level grants. Multiclassing (having more than 1 class) is a bit easier for martial types.
Ask your GM if he allows Retraining. This would allow you to changes feats, classes, etc.

Advice:
you can read up on different classes and some guidance at
PF1 Class Guides at ZG

Fighter as a class is pretty solid, I don't know that I'd jump out for Rage powers. Maybe dip into wizard, cleric, bard, arcanist2(dim slide), rogue2(skills). For casters you need the Magical Knack trait.
