Depending on the situation, you probably need to include your organized play number too. E.g. Your OP Number XXXXXXX - YYYY being the specific character number
Link to your organized play acount homepage
You should be able to see your OP # and character #s in the link above.

Where were you entering it?
Your org play number is probably something along the lines of 4232892, your first 2e character will be character number 2001, and your second character will be 2002, and so on. When you're signing up for a game, the GM should be asking you for your "character number / ID / ORG play number / PFS number" or some other variation thereof. You're supposed to give [the long number]-[character number], so in this case if you were going to play your first character in the game, you'd give them 4232892-2001, or if you are already a veteran, you might be giving something like 4232892-2005, to signify that you're playing your fith character.
If you're trying to enter it to the web page to register, then you should be able to find your player number in the small card that a GM / convention organizer / venture-officer gave you either in person or digitally.
If you already played your first game, and are now trying to register, you should ask your GM (if that was your first game) for your player number, as they would be using that number when reporting the game to tell the system that you completed that adventure.
