I do a lot of Org Play gaming and I know they were pretty permissive about ability score generation. I couldn’t remember off the top of my head if replacing standard ancestry ability mods with two bumps was the standard rules or a variant.
Quickly checking my PDF of 4th printing, I can’t find where they hid the rule.
In any case, since I knew it wasn’t the default method I asked before proceeding.
@NotEspi Thanks for the reply. Sorry if it increased your stress level, I wasn’t trying to be a problem.

The shrieking and howling about this change from a small handful of people on the PF2 forums went on for several weeks and was bad enough that more than a couple of threads had to be locked.
But it definitely isn't a variant rule. The FAQ that makes the change states that directly. (first entry in the 4th printing errata)

No worries.

It caught me off guard and my brain went to sarcastic joke mode. Conveying such tone over text is... Well, you probably know. Otherwise, I think you will find me being a very mellow individual.

Alright, I have most of the character in here.
Still to do:
Pick skills for skill increases
Pick which of Rogue or Ranger to take as Free Archetype and then apply that. 4th level feat is already chosen, Quick Draw.
Pick General Feat, either Shield Block or Fleet.
Finish outfitting with equipment.
So far I have only given them a spear with the Returning rune on it and some daggers. Figured AC assuming leather armor.
Comments welcome.

I still have to convert Zendel to APB and Free Archetype.
I am probably going to create a separate Google Doc character sheet for that after Wednesday.

Yeah, I still have a copy of Lanni's 1e Medium profile data saved on my computer in a text file. Not that I ever intend to play 1e again other than perhaps as a favor to a friend who needs another player to keep a game going. But I still have the character data for sentimental reasons.

I'm the type that will put the DC for information as the spoiler header and just post the information directly.
Yes, it can be metagamed. But also yes, it absolutely speeds up the gameplay - as well as giving us hints of what is available to be interacted with. We're big kids. We can handle playing nicely.

I generally trust the players to play what their characters know.
I do not object to the GM rolling the secret rolls, but I tend to decide when I am going to use them. When there are mystery components, keeping the rolls secret can add to the mood. When it is just a monster identification in the middle of combat, I’m less concerned.

For the Free Archetype, Zendel will be adding back two investigator feats, That's Odd and Trapspotter. So if there is anything odd, you can draw Zendel's attention to it in a round about way.

I also wanted to post to say that I exist, but am currently in crunch mode on a Paizo writing gig, so the next few days I may not be around much.

Okay, folks. This is moving slower than I anticipated. For various reasons.
After some thought and deliberation today, I have a plan.
We will do out-of-context combats. In a separate thread. While that is happening, we will parallelly continue with this thread for the story/mystery AND actual story-related encounters.
This is to allow all of us to participate in the survey on time, and have an actual narrative here.
Thoughts? I know this is not everyone's cup of tea, so let me know - Who's in, who's not?
| Lanni Talimbi |
We moved the playtest part of it there. Running through a handful of encounters with no context. Just to test out the mechanics.
Are you interested in keeping this story going here though?
| GM NotEspi |
I had thought you moved the game to Discord, I lost interest at that point.
Not at all. We are doing pure encounters via discord, just to have data for the survey.
This thread is still on, as far as I am concerned. With an actual plot and roleplay and the things we, presumably, like in RPGs.
