I'm still new to Starfinder and I'm still learning the rules. When I finally get the chance to play I really like the Mechanic class, especially the idea of having a drone.

So, folks that have experience in running the game, what's your feeling on changing up what kinds of drones are available from the start? RAW are that starting mods on existing drone chassis cannot be changed, but what if you were to take an existing drone and swap out some of its starting features for others?

What I was thinking of in specific is a "Utility Drone" which using the hover drone as a base, removing the flight system and weapon mount and replacing them with manipulator arms and smuggler's compartment. I would want to also swap out the acrobatics skill with engineering. The idea is that it would be a drone that primarily brings the Mechanic their tools or materials and assists in repairs. I would also like the drone to be Tiny-sized, since it would more easily get into areas that the Mechanic cannot reach on their own. Plus, it would be little enough to perch on the Mechanic's shoulder which would just be cute.

So, those of you that are more savvy to the Starfinder ruleset, what would you think of this? Also, GMs-- is this something that you would allow in a game you were running?
