Greed More for Me ability

The More for Me ability of the Greed (trickery) subdomain writes:

More for Me (Su): When another character within 30 feet casts a spell with a range greater than touch, you can attempt a caster level check as an immediate action (DC = 15 + the spell’s level). If you succeed at the check, you receive the spell’s benefit instead of one of the spell’s intended targets (chosen by you). If you are already a target of the spell, you are affected as though you were targeted by the same spell twice (which may or may not benefit you; remember that bonuses from the same source do not stack). This ability does not grant you knowledge of the spell being cast. You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Wisdom modifier.

Can this be used to steal detrimental spells (e.g. if your team mate gets targeted by something nasty you eat it instead)?

Can it also steal AE effects (from one target, e.g. haste/slow/ae heal)? It just says it can be used on any spell with a range greater than touch

Haste/Slow isn't an AoE spell, it is a multi-target spell. The need to have all the targets in an area is a limitation but doesn't make it an AoE spell.

I don't see a mechanical reason why you couldn't do that, but if I were the GM I would probably consider doing that often a violation of your code of conduct.

It depends on your deity and, possibly, what orders you have received from your superiors (if you are a follower of Asmodeus and a superior has ordered you to keep someone alive, you would have no problems using it often).

Ahh that's true. What would you think about things like confusion or fireball?

Our DM usually do not play into/focus on our domains at all. I think in general they are viewed more like bloodlines or wizard schools in this group. Sometimes they are used only for their mechanic, other times the character takes a lot of flavor from their domain(s).

In this case, the idea came for a CN separatist cleric of Cayden Cailean who goes adventuring for the thrill of adventuring itself... and her own pockets! She values freedom very highly and goes into battle to protect and strengthen her allies. However, she also wants (and takes?) what she considers rightfully hers. The domain and ability seemed to match very well with that feel.

The background seems nice.

For the AoE spells, the ability says "one of the spell’s intended targets", My interpretation of that is that the spell needs to select one or more targets.
With AoE spells you select a corner from which the spell will emanate, not a target.

True!

Thanks for the feedback, appreciate it :)

It does state that you gain the spell’s benefit instead of one of the spells intended targets.

The definition of Benefit according to Merriam Webster dictionary is:” something that produces good or helpful results or effects or that promotes well-being “.

If it had stated you gain the effect of the spell that would be clear you can take detrimental effects, but it specifies benefits. Based on that I would say that RAW it will not allow you to take negative effects. Probably need to talk to your GM about it.
