I'm kinda worried about the 8th level feat Mesmerizing Gaze.
Seems to me like the Psychic is going to absorb the entire 1e Mesmerist class, and having to wait until 8th level to access their signature ability (Hypnotic Stare) doesn't feel right to me. Plus, it's gonna take a ton of unique material (tricks, stares, touch treatment...) to justify the deletion of the whole class.

It doesn't take anything to justify the deletion of the Mesmerist. They just have to not want to do it.
I didn't mean to imply that they had the responsibility to release that class. By justifying its deletion I mean to not release it as a full class despite stating that all PF1 classes will be present in PF2 in some form or shape.
For the Psychic to absorb the Mesmerist and be able to deliver its full fantasy it would require a pretty substantial amount of feats. The original class had a lot of unique class features and 21 archetypes, almost 3 times the amount of the Psychic.

I'm ok with the Psychic absorbing the Mesmerist. I'd just like enough material to play a full-fleshed Mesmerist without waiting until 8th level to start feeling like one.
Good thing that we created the Legendary Mesmerist: Second Edition!

I like the Mesmerist stuff, but if this edition is aiming for few classes, it may not be necessary. They way things are set up now, it would could work pretty well as an archetype or even a conscious mind for the psychic.
I don't think the Mesmerist needs a full class with how the psychic is shaping up.

I mean, to get the sneakiness, all we need is a conceal spell analog
I'm fine with mesmerist being absorbed, but only if we see tricks, gazes, etc represented in more ways than just mesmerizing gaze.
That said, I think giving psychic tricks and such would actually be a cool way to expand out utility and support options

Considering that Captivator is a new archetype basically focused on that and now Psychic with more stuff, I could say that Mesmerist is pretty much dead and absorbed.
Dead and swallowed, perhaps, but not yet fully digested. It still needs some more feats and so forth (and yes, perhaps a class archetype) to absorb fully. Fortunately, the psychic augment structure offers a fair bit of flexibility for building that sort of thing in.

I would love to see more feats that interact with the existing mesmerizing gaze
Perhaps something like a feat called fascinating gaze that makes it a fascinating effect for one action and a focus point like an amp, with an ability to keep an enemy fascinated when it would normally break if they fail another will save,
Maybe another called sickening gaze that forces a fort save with an action and a focus point
There's a ton of things they could do that can build off of the amp system now

I felt this way about swashbuckler and gunslinger when fighter was released. Fighter has the good-at-weapons niche of gunslinger and would only need a couple feats to be good-at-guns. Heck, Fighter had feats for 1-handed fighting that fit for a swashbuckling playstyle in the CRB. So did Rogue. And yet we have Swashbuckler with Gunslinger coming through the pipeline too. I'm guessing because the design team had unique takes to expand on how those class concepts function beyond the minimal support released in core, and ran with it. And for the discussion of if Psychic will eat Mesmerist or Thaumaturge eating Inquisitor or any other X class absorbs Y 1e class, until it is explicit (like Flexible Spellcaster Wizards being called Arcanists or Cavalier being an archetype) I'm going to assume the full class version can still exist if the devs think there is a solid conceptual and mechanical concept for the class. I don't think 1 feat on psychic absorbs everything Mesmerist can do.

I don't know about the captivator and actually would hate for the mesmerist to be absorbed
It was a great class with lots of flavor, there still could be done a lot with it.
(And while the legendary mesmerist looks not bad I think it misses out on the martial half and think a wavecaster could work that)
