They’d already said Mahershala Ali was cast as Blade (an awesome choice), but now it looks like they’ve got a director as well….
I’ve never heard of this guy, which is not surprising considering (a) he’s made exactly two films, and (b) I almost exclusively watch sci-fi, fantasy, horror, and action movies. Nevertheless, Disney has mad very few missteps, in my never-at-all-humble opinion, so I’ve got a little faith in their judgement.

This is the MCU film I am by far the least interested in. I LOVE Marvel movies, but for some reason I could not care less about this film …
That I can understand. Some genres are not for everyone. I can’t stand rom-coms anymore.
Especially if they screw up the vampires by saying people can be born one, and that it’s basically just a disease.

Well, at least originally Blade was a special case - his mother being drained by a vampire while he was being born.
Who knows what they'll do in the movie though.

I never had the slightest interest in the comic book Blade, but the first Blade movie was amazing back in the day, and M. Ali was one of the best parts of season one of Luke Cage, so I'm intrigued to see what he has in store for the character.
That he's being tied somehow to Dane Knight and the Ebony Blade intrigues me. Perhaps the blood curse of the Ebony Blade is going to have something to do with the blood curse of vampires, created by the Darkhold, which Wanda is currently reading? Ah, it all ties together! Chthon is the new Thanos! :)

Two new articles, one of which is just a rumor:
Marvel’s ‘Blade’ Loses Director Bassam Tariq
X-Men '97 Writer Reportedly Tapped to Rewrite MCU's Blade
Neither of these is good news for Marvel, I think. Even if the writer rumor is false, coming on the heels of the director leaving just makes a bad (for Disney) situation slightly worse. Especially considering the movie was supposed to start filming in November.
Sad, because this was one of the few upcoming MCU offerings for which I had a slight glimmer of hope.

MCU Blade reboot delayed indefinitely as Marvel removes it from its schedule
I was kind of sad to hear this, as I was still somewhat excited by the idea of Mahershala Ali as Blade. He’s a phenomenal actor. Still, considering it’s been something like five years now, maybe this is for the best.
As an aside, I don’t think I realized Ali is 50 years old. I wonder if his age was a factor. Not necessarily the difficulty of filming a heavy action movie, but getting tied to that role for possibly several years, knowing the kind of roles he might alternatively be chosen for.

It's not really a new delay. Between the writers strike and the change in writers/direction, it simply wasn't ready to start filming soon enough to come out then, that's old news. This was the formality of officially taking it off the schedule, and until they have a new script ready it makes sense not to put it back on.

From everything I’ve heard and read, Snipes was an absolute, grade A jerk during the filming of those movies, so maybe it’s for the best that we leave him out of any new MCU movies …
I read an interview with Ryan Reynolds talking about how Wesley Snipes seemed to hate him, and would not even look at him, let alone talk to him, and one day his mom showed up to set, and he is busy doing some scene work and goes to find his mom and she's being shown around the set by Snipes, who is being totally cool with her and they are having a great time. "Oh, Wesley has been showing me around, such a nice man! You two must be having such fun together!" "Yeah mom, I don't think he knows my name..." :)
Still, that first Blade movie was just epic. I was not a fan of the character in the comics, but was blown away with how good that movie was. Even the less-developed characters, like Deacon Frost's two 'lieutenant' vampires, Quinn and Mercury, were fun and interesting. And Udo Kier was his usual awesome self as the elder vampire Dragonetti. Great casting, pretty much great everything. At the time, comic book movies were either terrible straight-to-DVD stuff (Dr. Strange!), made-for-TV (ugh, that Captain America with the clear plastic shield...), Superman or Batman. Pretty much a desert for a Marvel fan, back then!
