Help finding a specific type of encounter...

General Discussion

Hello!

Long time lurker; first time poster.

I'm running a homebrew-ish Starfinder campaign and I need help finding a specific type of encounter.

Basically, I'm looking for an encounter where a larger conflict (preferably between two or more powerful entities/beings/whatever) is the obstacle in the way of my PCs. The PCs don't interact with the large creatures, instead, they have to navigate all of the obstacles and collateral damage that surrounds the conflict. I can edit and tweak any encounter that comes close to this. But I need to see something to imagine the mechanics of an encounter like this.

Finally, this doesn't have to be Starfinder specific. If there's something like this in a Pathfinder campaign, that's ok. I can probably work with it.

Thanks in advance for the help everyone!!!

Does the location matter?

Two starship-scale monsters fighting in the Diaspora, next to the asteroid the PCs are in.

Thanks for responding.

No, the location doesn't matter. Basically, in the scenario, there's two kaiju-esque beasts fighting. The PCs have to get from point A to point B. The goal for the PCs is to navigate the battle zone to get to their destination. The more I think about this, it's kinda like a chase sequence. I've never run a chase sequence in Starfinder, but I played a chase sequence in Pathfinder. Basically, as the PCs move from point A to point B, obstacles will get in their way and they'll have to make choices and checks. For example one of the beasts gets pierced and blood splatters on the ground, you have to navigate across the blood...acrobatics checks, oh no! you fell, blood is toxic! Roll a save...etc.

So I'm looking for a scenario like this that already exists. Not the plot or story elements, but rather the mechanics. Obviously, there's no exact match. But if there's a scenario where PCs have to move across some type of obstacle course, with urgency, I can probably tweak the mechanics and make it work without have to write the whole thing on my own.

Starfinder Society #2-12: Colossus Heist. Set on Daimalko, the PCs have to use the distraction of a kaiju/tekenki fight to literally get inside the tekenki to recover some stolen loot.

The mechanics involve some investigation to track the tekenki, activating some beacons to lure it in (as well as a kaiju), and then some hazards and skill challenges to get in position. Once the PCs are inside the tekeni, its innards are treated as a dungeon with random effects every minute to represent the titanic skirmish going on outside.

John, thank you! That's a great suggestion. I'll check it out.
