Let's say I have 9 chronicle sheets that grant me 1 xp, so I have a character at level 3 and should level it up to level 4. If I level it up to level 4 but I haven't played any other scenario with such character and no master has seen the changes made, can I remake any changes regarding level 4?

Then, can I use a mnemotecnic editor MKI to change the decisions made for level 2 and 3 and then change level 4 decisions if this character has not played any other scenario?

This is a discussion we are having with our GM and some people are starting to get upset so we would like other opinions.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

“Time between scenarios” is deliberately vague. Essentially everything you gain on a chronicle (XP, credits, fame, Downtime income, reputation, and boons) happens at once.

There’s no reason you couldn’t use a mnemonic editor “at the end of an adventure” (before the chronicle is actually applied) and count as being at the level you played the adventure. However you would not be able to spend any credits or Fame earned on that chronicle for the editor (since you haven’t applied the chronicle yet).

I don’t see any problem letting someone declare they decided to use a mnemonic editor before leveling up, even if it’s several real-time days or weeks later. As long as they haven’t played any adventures since then they aren’t affecting their character’s “history.”

As for the other question, of course you can change a decision you made while leveling up a character if you haven’t played the character yet. If I am leveling up my character and say “I think I’ll take Extra Resolve,” write it down, then immediately erase that and say “nah, Weapon Focus” no one is going to say “no, no, no, you wrote ‘Extra Resolve!’.” There is no difference between doing it immediately and doing it a month later if you haven’t played anything.

Thank you. So unless I have the mnemotecnic editor in a chornicle sheet I couldn't have bought it before attempting to level up cause I dont meet the character level +1 prerrequisite.

If you buy it with fame i believe you bypass that prerequisite

That is correct. The text of the Basic Purchasing Plan boon says “all Starfinders have access to the following list of services.”

Thank you both.

Why do you need a mnemonic editor in the first place, if you're building a 4th level PC from scratch?

I'm not, I've leveled my character from level 1 to level 4 through a number of scenarios.

Ok. Apologies. Read your post as applying nine 1xp Chronicles at once.

I concur that you could use the editor during your choice of 3rd level or 4th.

Just be aware you can only use it once.
