Pathfinder society purchasing at low level

So I am new to pathfinder society and I can’t seem to find a straight answer on this. I have a lvl 2 character now with 5 fame and 1,400 gp. Can I buy a mithral chain shirt with gold? Or am I restricted from buying it due to only having 5 fame? Does the fame requirement only apply to purchases with pp?

Chain shirts are part of the Always Available list of items, and the only restricted special material in the core rulebook is dragonhide. So a mithral chain shirt is always available and can be enchanted to +1 regardless of your fame. (+1 weapons and +1 armor are also on the Always Available list.) If you wanted to enchant it to +2, then you would need the appropriate fame to purchase it.

So “always available” is in fact always available. the fame chart made me second guess that. Thanks for the confirmation!

Correct, as long as the item falls under one of the three qualifying rules, it's available.

1) Always Available list
OR
2) Costs less than the GP limit set by the characters Fame
OR
3) Is listed on the characters chronicle

It does not have to meet all requirements.

Almost the opposite. The fame requirement does not apply to purchases with PP.

It is the third way of bypassing the fame requirement, in addition to the two that TriOmegaZero listed (being on the always available list, or listed on a chronicle sheet).
