I need to know for my coming Con plans this year.... to see how I can get to the 10 Special requirement for the 5th Nova.
Thanks!
Just keep in mind that we've not yet finalized the 5th nova rules for Starfinder yet. So there's currently no determination for what a "special" is in Starfinder and how/if those types of scenarios will factor into the 5th nova determination. :)

Thursty, I am hoping that 1-00 is a special, and not just because I will have run it for the third time this January. 1-00 was advertised as a Special at GenCon. Many GMs volunteered to run it specifically so that they could start accrueing their SFS specials early. If it gets retired from the Specials list, I hope it will be grandfathered as a special for runs that happened before that retirement.
Yes, I know that you have not even decided if there will be a specials requirement for 5 novas, but everyone is expecting that there will be one. Why? First off, if keeps GMs volunteering to run specials, which are historically hard to staff otherwise. Most multi-table specials are highly demanding of prep time. They require more maps, more stat blocks, more everything. By folding a specials requirement into the five nova, you're incentivizing GMs to run these specials.
Secondly, you're also incentivizing GMs to stretch themselves and become better GMs. In prepping for an MTS, you learn a lot of great skills. Just think about all that 1-99 taught:
So many skills. You cannot run an MTS cold. It's really like doing an intensive course in making your GMing better! By requiring specials of GMs to get that coveted 5th nova, you are helping them learn to be better GMs along the way.
