Recently, making a new alias for a forum-based game, I tried to select an avatar for the alias. I discovered that the page for alias selection now uses some kind of box formatting that places several of the choices offscreen to the right, removes all sense of aligning of the pictures, and does not allow selection of the next page of pictures. Apparently all pictures now have their full info box shown by default, instead of on mouseover.
This makes it nearly impossible to pick an alias picture, as many of them wind up unselectable and it's hard to parse through the page.
Here is a link to what I'm seeing when I'm on the avatar selection page. As you can see in the screencap, on the far right is an up-down scrollbar, but there is no left-right, and one of the images on the right is cut off; you can't even scroll to select the images.

Can confirm this problem makes avatar selection range from "a pain" to "impossible", depending on what precisely you're trying to do. It's also worth noting that the issue I reported here in May is still present, and avatar pictures that were made available after a certain date (I believe at least a date one and a half years ago) are unable to be found with any filters. This, among other things, makes it impossible to search out a great many iconic characters, such as any image of the Spiritualist, Estra.

That's interesting, sounds like an extension of the problem of metatagging with incorrect or misspelled tags - or in this case, no tags at all.

Nice. Glad to know it's not just me.

OH!!! Hey guys, just wanted to let everybody know that for the broken avatar selection page, you should be able to scroll out and see the rest of the items as well as the page selection options! I don't know why I didn't think of trying that earlier, but it does work. If you don't have an accessible zoom option on your browser, hold CTRL and scroll down on your mouse/mousepad.

I tried scrolling out, but it's still not working for me. I can maybe get it to show me the top row of avatars and a few others, but then I can't get the mouse-over information, and most of them are still effectively unavailable.
Screenshot is available here.

Scroll out not working for me either - was up until the site came back onstream, since then like motteditor its pretty much unusable.
Know its likely not a priority when compared to the bigger site issues, but to pbp'ers and GMs it was a valuable resource (if somewhat overdue an injection of fresh options).
Cheers

Come on paizo, a really poor showing here to let an issue like this go on for so long. I've been unable to select an avatar for my new SFS character. Same issue as described/shown. I've tried Chrome, FireFox, Edge, IE, mobile, compatibility view, cleared cache... Not that I'm likely to find many good options for a Lashunta without Starfinder material being uploaded. Why the all the technical issues on your site recently has not caused a mass exodus of the PBP community from your forums in favor of sites geared specifically for PBP I don't understand.

I have found that going to the Select Avatar page and slowly moving the cursor from left to right over the top row of avatars, makes the 2nd row show up correctly. Continue the slow moving cursor on the 2nd row causes the 3rd row to show up, etc.
You can then use the "normal" click on a picture and it shows the select button and picture information.
I found it better if I used the selection criteria on the left side "human", "male", "fighter" (or other criteria) to winnow down the choices to a manageable number of pictures.

Interesting, it is as if every icon begins with the mouse-over engaged. Doing a mouse-over normally resets the status for that image. A cumbersome workaround but effective. Still not many good images for the new Starfinder races though. Really Paizo, isn't it about time you let people upload their own images like every other message board on the internet. I understand there may be some concerns over content but surely that should be no bigger concern that the text content people post. You can always take action against a user that causes problems.

"I know this will cause issues for you but that's your problem" isn't really an effective argument for trying to get something implemented.
The new work load would be astronomical, having to go check every user's avatar to see if they're using anything explicit or that would cause legal issues.

Do they check every post for explicit content, or copyrighted material for that matter? I can post either in text form just As easily. As I said every other site on the internet manages to do this. I game on several others, the only reason I come back here at all is the size of the community means a large number of recruitment threads.

So I've managed to FIND an Avatar that I kind of like.
What I haven't been able to do is to figure out how to select it.
Clicking, double clicking, wildly clicking, none of them work
I go to one of the many save an avatar buttons and click but seem to get a pretty random avatar from the page.
Any suggestions?

I can only do it on a real computer, by waiting forever for the Avatar page to load, and then mousing over the image and finding the select button. I can't do this on my iPad at all.
It's completely borked. On the other hand... it's gotten me to stop asking about new Starfinder avatars for the moment. Right now, I'll settle for this issue getting fixed.
Hmm
