Alchemist on the Way to Mystic Theurge

Rules Questions

One of my players has a 2nd level Druid/4th level Alchemist and is wondering if the Alchemist's extracts would count as spells for the purpose of becoming a Mystic Theurge.

Any opinions?

I don't think alchemist CL counts towards making a mystic theurge. Extracts aren't specifically spells, and I recall this being FAQ'd before. Still, if it works then it sounds interesting, bombs and buffs combined with summoned critters and entangle seems like a terrifying combo to anyone on land.

No they aren't technically spells, they're a supernatural ability that works like spells. But I'd let him anyway. If ****** sla's now count for pre-reqs then extracts should too.

*****sla's???

I don't think mystic theurge complements this class selection much, as opposed to going druid10/alchemist10. This way, you get the cool stuff druids get like wild shape, combined with more bombs and other cool alchemist stuff. The mystic theurge seems like its built for classes with little other than casting. If this would qualify, I'd say just go with theurgy feat and take cooler class features then combined spells and spell synthesis

AH... lol

Thanks.

Cal, by RAW, no. Alchemists are not casters in any regard, and extracts are not even either arcane or divine.

Extracts aren't even Spell-like abilities - the Alchemy Class feature is Supernatural, and nothing in the PRD calls out extracts as being different, that I can see. I can't see any way that an Alchemist can qualify for Mystic Theurge.

Thanks everyone. This is pretty much what I figured, but I wanted some back up on my thoughts.

I love these boards.

If you want a Gar or Vrock, go see Cal!

By RAW, no, it doesn't count. However, as DM (which you are, I'm guessing) you can easily let it count if you want. I don't think letting Alchemist CL count as an arcane CL would break the game, and it sounds like a neat character idea.
