Advice on Party Composition

Wrath of the Righteous

We as a party came into a little bit of a pickle while playing of Book 2.

I’m a PC and want little to none spoilers. However I have a question of our party compossition. Does ist work? Do we NEED a Cleric/Paladin/Arkane Caster?
Or lies the problem somewhere else?

House rules:
-20 point buy
-No Player shall have Ability Scores below 10 before Race Scores.
-GM rolls HP against you. Best result will be taken. (We have around average HP)
-Background skills
-normal Mythic Stuff
-Crit Fail confirmation (If you roll nat 1 you have to confirm that like a nat 20.)
-Custom Build Wyrwood (Like the Vine Leshy no bonus for being a construct but some bonus to bluff and Poisen res.)
-Buy full price (with little to no luck to haggle). Sell for half price (with no haggle at all it seems)

Players:
-Human Cavalier 7 Marshall 1 (Me).
-Wyrwood Ranger (Falconer) 7 Trickster 1
-Human Fighter 7 Champion 1
-Aasimar Oracle 7 Guardian 1

Long version:
-Human Cavalier 7 Marshall 1 (Me).
Taktik/Build: ties to be mounted but has like almost never the chance too do so. Else he is the main dmg dealer. Dazzling Display Intimidate with +16 to Intimidate. He is also the partyface.
Useful Equipment: Full Plate, Bastardsword+1 /Lance+1, Cloak of Resistance+2
ATK (With Challenge) +13/+6 1d10+24; RK20

-Wyrwood Ranger (Falconer) 7 Trickster 1
Taktik/Build: Is the regular archer. Shoots lots of arrows, he and his falcon are our scouts.
Useful Equipment: Chainshirt+1, Longbow+1, Cloak of Resistance+2, some durable and some cold iron arrows
ATK +11/+11/+11/+6 1d8+1; RK19

-Human Fighter 7 Champion 1
Taktik/Build: sword and board soon to be board and sword since he mainly shieldbashes. He refuses to be anything else and is our main problem for social interactions.
Useful Equipment: Breastplate+1, light shield, mwk cold Iron Longsword, Morningstar+1, Cloak of Resistance+1, Ring of Protection+1, Amulet of natural Armor+1
ATK +12/+7 1d8+5; +15 1d4+7+Bull Rush; RK22

-Aasimar (Archon-Blooded) Oracle (Purifier) with Mystery Ancestor and Curse Accursed 7 Guardian 1
Taktik/Build: wants to be everything and is nothing (She wants to be full caster and full melee). Last 2 sessions she finally used her buffspells on us.
Useful Equipment: Chainshirt+1, Mace+1, cold iron Speer+1, Cloak of Resistance+1, Ring of Protection+1
ATK +9 1d8+11; RK17

Partyequipment:
1 Wand of cure light wounds with around 7 Charges. It was in heavy use.
some scrolls of Protection / Dispel Magic / Magic missile etc.

everything else is little stuff and mostly useless for fighting. (like 7 +1 Weapons, +1 returning Dagger, a flagg withh gives less bonus than the one of the Cavalier and 2 Bags of Holding)
We tried to buy better Rings/Belts and Headbands but had only one Merchant with stuff with stuff for 30.000+ gp.
I squeezed an upgrade for my Lance to +1 in and had to literally beg for a full plate armor.
We got nothing equipment vise from the queen what was strange to me.
And yeah. I gave away the fancy sword even though the GM would have let me use it. We got 50 Ep for that…

Place: Citadel of Drezen. Fight against the Chimera.

Long Version:

We took Drezen within one day. I split us in 3 groups.
Group 1: Me with the army took the hill and the south bank.
Group 2: Ranger, Irabeth and Anevia tried to take the bridge and almost managed to keep it intact if they where a round faster.
Group 3: Oracle and Fighter took out the 4 catapults and had to merge with group 2 but where very much too slow.

We merged, and attacked the graveyard. Army battle was no problem. The demon or whatever was in the crypt stunned the fighter and the ranger and was singlehandedly killed by me.
We rested and our scouts found out that a new army emerged in the citadel. How? I don’t know! Everyone was dead!
Our plan to build a bridge in 2 days was thrown out the window. I ordered the Götz Otto (a new NPC our GM brought in to antagonize me) to take the freed fighters to climb the riverbed in the north while i took the paladin army over the broken bridge in the south without horses.

Well. The paladin army almost died. The fighters could not even attack once. They died thanks to 2 ranged attacks… I ordered retreat. we circled around and attacked from within the walls. This time we won very fast and took no damage.

The Chimera wrecked us. I couldn't attack once. We did little to nothing.

Long Version:
Now to the problem at hand.
We had one standard action and the chimera attacked. (I had no horse, the oracle hadn’t used any buffs-> as always.)
Round 1:
-Breath weapon hit us all even though we were spaced out far away. (12DMG for me and Ranger. 24 for Oracle and Fighter)
-Also Chimera charged me. (-11HP)
-Oracle used successfully phantom touch.
-Cavalier failed with intimidate. (rolled 10. so 26)
-Fighter Charged and hit once.
-Ranger shot and hit 2 of 5.
Conclusion: Cavalier 45/68HP, Ranger 50/69HP, Fighter 36/60HP, Oracle 44/68HP

Round 2
-Chimera attacked me and hit with 4/5 attacks (-7, -13, -9, -23) -> My HP -7/68
-Oracle circled around to heal me. got one AoO. ->My HP 8/68
-Cavalier stands up, goes a step back and chugges a potion of moderate healing.
-Fighter attacked and hit for 1 of 4 Attacks
-Ranger shot and hit 2 of 5
-Chimera attacked Fighter. He has around 10 HP
Conclusion: Cavalier stands again 20/68HP, Ranger is fine, Fighter can take one hit with luck, Oracle is no so fresh HP around 30

Round 3
-Chimera moves up to threaten Cavalier. Attackes Oracle x4 and Cavalier once. We start to calculate and save her by hairs length. -27/68 HP. Cavalier 8/68HP
-Cavalier orders retreat. tries to pick Oracle up and run. Gets hit by AoO. -5/68HP
-Fighter runs.
-Ranger shoots.
-Chimera charges Ranger

Round 4
-Chimera attacks Ranger. Ranger unconscious.
-Fighter runs
-Chimera flies

Round 5
GM is lets her fly away and we are picked up by Paladins.

Conclusion
Cavalier: 2/5MP. Couldn’t attack had no mount.
Ranger: 3/5MP. 1/2 Spells. Could attack and did thanks to Clustered Shots and Gravity Bow 4d6+2 x2 DMG
Fighter: 3/5MP. sort of OK.
Oracle: 2/5MP. Used one 2nd spell. Not so OK.
Chimera: Took 4 Attacks with around 10-20DMG each.

We had our problems with encounters and sometimes one person was in the dirt (mostly me…) but never where we utterly destroyed like this.
The biggest problem is the 10 Attacks the Chimera has and that the GM has to roll somtething like a 4 to hit us. It does not help that almost 25% of every attack was a not confirmed crit.

Nevermind.

I just had to let my horse levitate over the bridge and crit the chimera... (nat 20 confirmed by nat 20)
