Hello everyone,
I've got something on my hand, which i'm doubting about how to approach it.
The party is fighting against a monster in tight spaces.
Nearby is a patch of brown mold, which the party was unable to identify, thereby not knowing of any effects fire has on it.
The monster had been taking a good amount of nl cold of being near it, too, before moving away towards a nearby isolated party member. One of the PCs ic was voicing to burn overgrown infestations in general in the room (prior to encountering the monster at all), and now suddenly 'finds inspiration', to throw fire near the mold.
Yup, if you deliberately want to grow it, that's a way to do it.
With this, she also types she aims to have alchemist fire splash upon the brown mold. We all know what happens then, it increases in size. This would make the mold grow to the size where it would harm the monster again to the most likely point where it would pass out from nl.
These actions seem convenient and meta. How would my fellow GMs deal with this?

On the one hand it does seem convenient and meta.
On the other hand, the player had been thinking of using fire before. And using alchemist fire against the monster if it's easy to hit due to tight spaces (or hard to get to otherwise) isn't a bad idea to begin with. When you're trying not to meta, you should also not swing the other way, avoiding good tactics which you might have also done if you didn't have the OOC knowledge, just to avoid the appearance of meta.
On the gripping hand, after perhaps observing the effects of the mold on the monster, perhaps its time for a new Knowledge check to identify what's going on, because the party now has more clues to jog their memory?

She had been opting to burn all fungal growth in the entire archives, the mission description did mention all of the floor was overgrown with fungi, not this patch specifically, certainly not that patch in the middle of combat.

Thing is, none of them have knowledge [nature], and there were no visible signs on the monster, making it even more meta-ish for their spontaneous inspiration of doing this sort of tactics.

Yes, true. But the illogical whole timing of it, mentioned intention and combat consequences that follow do give the impression to me.
Ooc she hoped it wasn't a foolish action, for me adding to the impression she was planning for expanding it.
I'll add that she didn't decide to burn it prior to combat, even after another PC mentioned the area caused him some discomfort, and that during three rounds of combat, it was in sight all along.
For my own reference, i marked the amount of nl the monster had taken.
Every player who's ever faught the monster or seen one in the bestiary, has an approx knowledge of its HP.
