Prerelease Discussion

So though the classes seem to be the same lineup, as shown with the podcast and the cover showing the previous iconics, our new goblin alchemist iconic shows they aren't aren't afraid to change things up. I'm hoping they make some changes for the better. Things I'd like to see fixed/mixed:

Clerics. They need more skills per level. As I think they are also the class with the most dead levels, I'd like to see them be fused with the Oracle. Give them Arcanist-styled casting, with some more class features. Selective Channel should be a feature for them, though maybe still a feat for other classes.

Wizard. Maybe it's because of how much I love the Arcanist, but is like to see the exploiter wizard become more the norm fir the class.

Ranger. I'd like to see them borrow more from the Slayer, as otherwise their abilities are more situational than I'd like, but that may just be me.

Rogue. A more reliable way to get sneak attack would be nice. As would free Dex-to-damage. Bit more like the unchained one.

Fighter. I'd love to see them get something like soldier fighting styles from Starfinder.

Monks need to be unchained. Barbs probably too.

I know that may seem a bit picky of me, but I think that some of these classes would benefit greatly from borrowing aspects of classes that feel like they're 2.0 versions of the first originals. What would you like to see "fixed"?

Tengu, Kitsune, Wayang all available as races at Core launch. Replace the 'traditional' halfling, gnome, half-orc, half-elf (or some other way of doing it) and keep the game fresh and new with new ancestral options that no other game offers.

On the topic of ancestral options, let's get rid of 20ft speeds for being small, like in Starfinder.

Shadow Lodge

It sounds like "skill points" might not even be a thing any more. From what they've said so far, I'm expecting this edition to go far beyond such little fixes and be more on the line of a complete re-write. I'll be disappointed if they replace the traditional races. Extra playable races are a great thing to add in future books and don't need to be in core.
I do expect the system will still look familiar though, unlikely that they will completely let go of the legacy dead weight that holds pathfinder down and actually write a whole new game. I'd love to see them redo the 6 ability scores, but they are such a holy base of the system that that will never happen. Would also love to see the strange arbitrary system of defenses unified. Why do you roll to defend sometimes, but other times opponents roll to hit you. There's tons of other changes I'd like to see... but whatever. Pathfinder 1e is a fun game, so is starfinder, so I expect 2e will be fun too, however it turns out.

I'd like to see spontaneous casting no longer treated as some huge boon for a character. Sorcerer gets spells later, sucks at metamagic even using rods, and pays twice as much to recycle a spell slot with an item.

If they are adding 10th level spells, then they virtually have to give sorcerers access to each spell level earlier (at the same level as wizards). Otherwise, sorcerers would have a spell level that they can access only at 20th level -- and that strikes me as extremely undesirable.

I would actually consider "spells only available at 20th level" to be a generally desirable thing. As it stands, full casters basically get their real capstone two or three levels before anybody else. Getting a cool, kinda broken spell as your caster capstone would be neat. Ninth level spells can be toned down a little, as they're no longer expected to be the most powerful magic, merely mind-blowing.

That would be cool. Also, maybe sorcerers get abilites like a psychic for metamagic, while wizards gain exploits? Just a thought ^^;

Liking the clerical change to Heal, should be interesting to see what else is different

Fix mounted combat!

Look carefully at various feats, some of them really should be something anyone can do. Disarm without AoO, Trip without AoO, Combat Expertise, prone shooter and a few others.

Allow a viable Dex build for combat. People want this, so rather than try to prevent it just make it a normal option for how people fight.

Make crossbows viable. I really like in GURPS where the reload time is based on relative Str required to wind it.

Make all classes MAD.
