It doesn't seem to specify when I looked at it in the Core Rulebook. It'd make more sense to me if you and your allies wouldn't be targeted, but again, it's not specified. Possible oversight due to a more ranged combat-heavy system?
Its still super useful if you have a melee heavy team. Perhaps even more so. If your game is just two groups of ranged characters shooting at each other Grasping Vines is actually super lackluster unless you do it before your enemies get into cover. In all other situations its better.
PCs Melee vs NPC Ranged. Place it so that enemies are just about caught so melee can engage easier, or place it just behind enemies so they can't retreat from the melee.
PCs Melee vs NPCs Melee. Place to prevent multiple enemies engaging while you single out and deal with a smaller group as you like.
PCs Ranged vs NPC Melee. Place to prevent enemies gaining ground on the ranged PCs.
That it targets both is probably a good thing, otherwise it'd take no thought whatsoever to use.
