Hello,
I was wondering if there are rules about changing the size of a weapon. My group fought a Sarcesian and took her sniper rifle. The GM said it was large, and according to the rules medium characters take a -4 to hit with it.
So, since almost every character in our party has engineering trained, we wanted to resize the gun so one of our medium characters could use it.
The core rulebook does not seem to say anything, and after a search on the forums here, I see that nobody has talked about anything like this.
Have I missed something? Are there any rules that deal with this?

I suppose it depends how the GM rules weapon sizing.
Is an oversized weapon just a regular weapon with an oversized user interface (designed for bigger hands)?
-or-
Or is the Larger weapon actually designed differently because they designed it with the size difference in mind? Up to the GM.
If they rule the first, then resizing should be easy. A few hours at a well stocked engineering station should resolve it.
If they rule the second, magic or shrink rays would be required to alter the weapon's size. It just requires too much alteration of the original design to make a smaller version. You'd have to craft an entirely new weapon if you couldn't find a method of magically altering the item's size.

1 person marked this as a favorite. |
I think he is going with option 2.
We just played again today, and I get the impression that he thinks we are getting too much gear, so he's ruling to try and get us to sell more.
Enchanting the weapon seems like it would be a good idea, though. But that also seems like beyond the scope of the core rule book.

Where is that bold text from? It was my understanding that it was a one size fits all situation for anyone of small, medium, or large.
Bold text is not a quote. I just did that to seperate it from the other text. It's just two schools of thought regarding how sizes function from a flavor text stance, and so GM's ruling would likely depend on one of those interpretations. This is definitely in the domain of an "ask your GM" official answer.
Regarding the one-size fits all, you have that one only mostly right. It's one-size fits all for small and medium, but not large. Tiny hover drones were also FAQed to be able to use small and medium weapons at no penalty, but that is an exception.
